Friendly Ice Cream Corp. (413-543-2400) is planning to open 4,200 sq.ft. locations throughout the New England and greater Albany, NY areas for corporate sites and locations along the Eastern Seaboard from NY to FL, and west to OH for franchised stores. The company prefers sites with an average daily traffic count of 20,000 to 30,000 vehicles.

 

Darden Restaurants, Inc. (407-245-5366) is planning to open 25 to 30 Smokey Bones BBQ restaurants this year. The company also is looking to open a restaurant at a two-story building on PGA Boulevard along the Intracoastal Waterway in Palm Beach, FL. The company also operates as Red Lobster, Olive Garden, Bahama Breeze and Seasons 52 restaurants.

 

Tedeschi Food Shops, Inc. (781-878-8210) is planning to open Store 24 locations throughout southern NH and locations along Route 495 and urban areas throughout MA. The company currently operates 205 convenience stores under the Tedeschi, Li’l Peach and Store 24 banners.

 

Famous Dave’s, Inc. (952-294-1300) is planning to open a 5,540 sq.ft. Famous Dave’s restaurant located at 3303 Perryville Road in Rockford, IL during the Fall. The Perryville Road location will feature and sell the company’s barbecue sauce.

 

U.S. Factory Outlets, Inc. (212-563-3650) opened a 58,000 sq.ft. U.S. Factory Outlets store at the Southgate Shopping Center in Chambersburg, PA. The space was formerly occupied by Ames. The company currently operates locations throughout ID, IL, IN, MA, MO, MS, ND, OH, PA, SC, TN, TX and VA. It offers manufacturer closeouts and other items at 40% to 80% off department store prices.

 

Crawford Furniture Manufacturing Corp. (716-661-9100) is planning to open a 27,000 sq.ft. store in the soon-to-be renamed Sheridan Shopping Center in Amherst, NY. The 140,000 sq.ft. center is being renamed Crawford Furniture Outlet Plaza.

 

Supervalu, Inc. (952-828-4000) is planning to open 110 to 140 value food combination stores, approximately 90 conversions for value combination stores, eight to 10 regional banner stores and approximately 30 regional banner major remodels. The company currently operates 1,498 stores throughout 39 states. Those stores include 1,239 Save-A-Lot locations, including 275 company-owned, 832 licensed Save-A-Lot stores and 132 owned Deals stores; and 259 regional banner stores including Cub Foods, Shop ‘n Save, Shoppers Food Warehouse, bigg’s, Farm Fresh, Scott’s Foods and Hornbacher’s.

 

Office Depot, Inc. (561-438-4800) is planning to open a new concept called Millennium2, as well as opening 80 to 100 stores this year. The Millennium2 concept will feature a new color scheme, a new way-finding system to navigate the store and a combined check-out and copy area. Office Depot sells office supplies at more than 1,000 company-owned and licensed stores worldwide, including about 900 located in the U.S.

 

Abuelo’s Mexican Food Embassy Restaurant (806-785-8866) is planning to open an 8,000 sq.ft. restaurant on Highway 64 in Bartlett, TX during September.

 

Corky’s Ribs & BBQ (800-926-7597) is planning to open a restaurant on Highway 98 in Destin, FL. It will be the first company-owned location outside of the Memphis, TN area. Corky’s will open in what was the Destin Commissary, an offshoot of the Germantown Commissary, a familiar barbecue name in Memphis.

 

Panera Bread Co. (314-633-7100) is planning to open a restaurant at the former Aspen Inn location at the intersection of Routes 22 and 512 in Northampton County, PA. The company also is planning to open a location in Bethlehem, PA early next year. The company currently operates more than 600 bakery/cafes throughout approximately 35 states. Its locations, which operate under the Panera and Saint Louis Bread Company banners, offer made-to-order sandwiches built using a variety of artisan breads. More than 70% of its locations are operated by franchisees.

 

Caribou Coffee Co., Inc. (612-359-2700) is planning to open up to 75 stores this year and up to 100 stores next year. The sites would be located mainly throughout existing markets, but will also include locations in Richmond, VA and Cincinnati, OH. Caribou Coffee Company owns and operates more than 250 stores throughout nine states. The outlets, designed to resemble ski lodges and Alaskan cabins, offer a wide variety of coffee blends as well as specialty coffee drinks. The company also sells whole bean coffee and related brewing supplies.

 

Red Robin Gourmet Burgers, Inc. (303-846-6000) is planning to open about 12 restaurants throughout MI during the coming few years. Possible locations include Livonia, Flint Township, Grand Rapids, Saginaw, Rochester Hills, Jackson and Kalamazoo. The company currently operates approximately 200 restaurants nationwide and in Canada.

 

CVS Corp. (401-765-1500) is planning to open a CVS drug store at the intersection of Kedzie Avenue and 175th Street in Hazel Crest, IL. Opening is slated for November. The company currently operates approximately 4,200 stores throughout 33 states and Washington, DC.

 

Circuit City Stores, Inc. (804-527-4000) is planning to open a Circuit City store at Akers Mill Square on Route 41 in Atlanta, GA. Opening is slated for late spring or early summer of next year. The company currently operates approximately 600 stores throughout the U.S. In addition to superstores, the company also sells its products through mall-based Express Circuit City stores and online.

 

Chick-fil-A, Inc. (404-765-8000) opened a Chick-fil-A restaurant at 1626 Madison Street in Clarksville, TN. The company currently operates more than 40 restaurants throughout TN. Overall, Chick-fil-A is looking to open 90 restaurants this year, including 73 freestanding locations. The company operates more than 1,145 restaurants throughout 37 states and Washington, DC.

 

City Furniture (954-597-2200) signed an agreement with Ashley Furniture Industries and plans to open 13 Ashley Furniture HomeStores by 2007. The first 35,000 sq.ft. Ashley store opened at Sawgrass Mills Mall in Sunrise, FL, while a 32,000 sq.ft. store opened in West Palm Beach and a 22,000 sq.ft. store will open in Kendall this month.

 

Linens ‘N Things, Inc. (973-778-1300) is planning to open approximately 45 to 50 Linens ‘n Things stores throughout the U.S. and Canada this year. The company currently operates 473 stores throughout 45 states nationwide and in five provinces throughout Canada. The company sells bedding, towels, housewares and other home accessories, such as bath items and window treatments.

 

Wal*Mart Stores, Inc. (650-837-5000) is planning to open a 150,000 sq.ft. Wal*Mart at the intersection of Grand and Kilpatrick Avenues in Austin, TX, as well as a similar-size store at the intersection of 83rd Street and Stewart Avenue in the south side’s Chatham neighborhood. The company currently operates 3,586 stores throughout the U.S. and 1,499 international locations.

 

Redner’s Markets, Inc. (610-926-3700) is planning to open a Redner’s Warehouse Market at Oxford Square, a center located on Route 10 in Oxford, PA. The 55,000 sq.ft. store is slated to open during November. The company currently operates approximately 35 warehouse club-style supermarkets under the Warehouse Markets banner and a dozen Quick Shoppe convenience stores throughout eastern NY and eastern PA.

 

Pet Supermarket, Inc. (954-351-0834) opened stores in Strongsville and Richmond Heights, OH. The company currently operates 99 stores and plans to continue to add about 15 percent to its store count every year. The chain is looking to expand throughout the Southeast and OH markets, with plans to open in the Cleveland, OH area. The chain operates mostly in FL, with 10 stores in GA, nine throughout NC, three each in AL and KY and one each in CA and NV.
