Who's Opening & Where


Nordstrom, Inc. (206-373-3038) is planning to open a 135,000 sq.ft. store at Phipps Plaza located in Atlanta, GA. Nordstrom will take over space formerly occupied by Lord & Taylor. The store will be two levels and is tentatively scheduled to open during Spring 2005. The center is currently anchored by Parisian and Saks. The company currently operates 148 stores throughout 27 states, including 92 full-line locations, 49 Nordstrom Rack stores, five Facconable boutiques, one freestanding shoe store and one clearance store. Nordstrom also operates 31 international Facconable boutiques, primarily in Europe. 
 

Darden Restaurants, Inc. (407-245-5366) is planning to open between 25 to 30  Smokey Bones BBQ Sports Bar restaurants by May. There are currently 36 Smokey Bones restaurants in operation. Darden Restaurants also operates under the following tradenames: Red Lobster, Olive Garden, Bahama Breeze and Seasons 52. 

 

Big Boy Restaurants International, LLC (586-759-6000) is planning to open a 5,415 sq.ft. endcap prototype Big Boy Restaurant in South Lyon, MI during the Fall.

 

Meritage Hospitality Group, Inc. (616-776-2600) is planning to open 15 O’Charley’s restaurants throughout MI. But the company also believes there is potential to open 35 O’Charley’s locations during the coming seven years throughout MI.

 

Dillard’s, Inc. (501-376-5200) is planning to open seven stores this year. The company currently operates 330 locations throughout 29 states, covering the Sunbelt and central U.S.

 

Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co., Inc. (201-573-9700) is planning to open five supermarkets and enlarge or remodel five to 10 locations. The company currently operates 645 stores throughout 10 states, Washington D.C. and Ontario, Canada under the following trade names: A&P, Waldbaum’s, The Food Emporium, Super Foodmart, Super Fresh, Farmer Jack, Sav-A-Center, Dominion, The Barn Markets, Food Basics and Ultra Food & Drug.

 

Culver Franchising System, Inc. (608-643-7980) is planning to open a 4,300 sq.ft. Culver’s Restaurant at The Woodlands Town Center located at the intersection of Research Forest Drive and Six Pines Drive in The Woodlands, TX. The restaurant will feature a drive-thru, outdoor patio and dining room. Opening is slated for May. The company currently operates 240 locations nationwide.

Neiman Marcus (800-634-6267) is planning to open a 130,000 sq.ft. store at the Town Center at Boca located in Boca Raton, FL. The center is currently anchored by Bloomingdale’s, Burdines, Nordstrom, Saks and Sears. Neiman Marcus will take over space previously occupied by Lord & Taylor. Opening is slated for Fall 2005.

 

Main Street & Main, Inc. (602-852-9000) is planning to open 16 T.G.I. Friday’s locations by the end of 2009, with the first one opening during 2005.

 

The May Department Stores, Inc. (314-342-6300) is planning to open a Filene’s Basement store at the City Center in White Plains, NY.

 

Atlanta Bread Co. (770-432-0933) is planning to open a store at the City Center in White Plains, NY. Overall, the company expects to open up to 30 bakery cafes throughout the state during the coming five years, including Westchester and Rockland Counties. The company currently operates 150 locations nationwide.

 

Bombay Co. (817-347-8200) is planning to open 20 to 25 stores this year. The company currently operates approximately 480 stores throughout the U.S.

 

Costco Wholesale Corp. (425-313-8100) is planning to open a store in the Coachella Valley in CA. The company, which currently operates more than 300 stores, including 98 in CA, has a 150,000 sq.ft. warehouse store at the intersection of Dinah Shore Drive and Monterey Avenue in Palm Desert, CA.

 

Kohl’s Corp. (262-703-7000) is planning to open approximately 95 stores during fiscal 2004. In the first quarter, the company anticipates opening 47 stores, split between new market entries and fill-ins in existing markets. New markets include Sacramento, San Diego and Fresno, CA and Memphis, TN. The remaining stores to be opened in existing markets will be spread across all regions of the country.

 

Famous Dave’s of America, Inc. (952-294-1300) signed a development agreement with Utah BBQ, Inc. to bring a Famous Dave’s Legendary Pit Bar-B-Que restaurant to Alaska. Utah BBQ, Inc. currently owns and operates three Famous Dave’s restaurants in the Salt Lake City, UT metropolitan area and is developing five additional restaurants in the Seattle, WA metropolitan area. The opening of the first Alaska location has not been determined. Famous Dave’s of America, Inc. currently owns 39 locations and franchises 54 additional units throughout 24 states and has signed development agreements for an additional 140 franchised locations.

Eckerd Corp. (800-325-3737) is planning to open 250 new or renovated stores. Many of the stores will be in new markets, including AL, AZ and CO. Of the 250 stores planned, 175 will be new, while the other 75 will be existing stores that are relocated nearby or undergoing significant renovations. The company plans to open 30 stores and renovate 20 stores throughout FL. Meanwhile, the company plans to add about 20 stores in both AL and CO and 30 stores in AZ.

 

Checkers Drive-In Restaurants, Inc. (813-283-7000) is planning to open 20 to 25 restaurants system-wide during fiscal 2004, with about eight to 10 company-owned stores and 12 to 15 franchised stores. The company currently operates 242 company-owned restaurants and 540 franchises.

 

Borders Group, Inc. (734-477-1265) is planning to open two Borders Books & Music stores in TX by July 2004. A 26,000 sq.ft. store will open at the intersection of Lake Woodlands Drive and Six Pines Drive in Houston, TX during June. It will be the company’s fifth location in the Houston market. A 22,000 sq.ft. store is slated to open at the intersection of McKinney Avenue and Lemmon Avenue in Dallas, TX during July. It will be the company’s 10th store in the Dallas-Fort Worth market. Borders currently operates 18 stores throughout TX. Overall, the company operates over 430 Borders domestic superstores, 37 international Borders stores, located primarily in the U.K. and the Pacific Rim; 36 Books etc. stores throughout Great Britain and approximately 750 Waldenbooks stores nationwide.

 

TJX Cos. (508-390-1000) is planning to open a 25,000 sq.ft. A.J. Wright store at Southgate Plaza located at the intersection of Seneca Street and Union Road in West Seneca, NY. The space was formerly occupied by Ames Department Store.

 

IKEA (610-834-0180) is planning to open a 346,000 sq.ft. store on a land area of 25 acres on the border of Avon and Stoughton in MA. The company also is planning to build a 280,000 sq.ft. store in Somerville, located four miles from Boston. The company, which operates 18 stores in the U.S., has long planned to construct two stores in MA.

 

Great Clips, Inc. (952-893-9088) is planning to open between 260 and 270 stores this year. The company currently operates 2,000 stores nationwide. The company credits its expansion to the 300 new franchisees brought on during the past two years.
