Palomar Enterprises, Inc. (775-887-0670) is planning to open a Prize Pizza location at the intersection of Price and University in Tempe, AZ. Prize Pizza is a buffet-style, all-you-can-eat pizzeria, which provides entertainment and video game machines. Overall, the company is planning to open stores throughout the western U.S. 

Reeds Jewlers (800-Reeds-24) is planning to open two stores during the Spring. The company currently operates 91 stores throughout 18 states.

 Anchor Bar (716-886-8920) is planning to open full-scale restaurants in cities such as Orlando, FL; New York, NY and Las Vegas, NV as well as numerous smaller, take-out only stores in other cities. The bar is known as the birthplace of Buffalo wings. Plans call for the new stores to look and feel similar to the one in Buffalo, NY.

 Starbucks Corp. (206-447-7950) is planning to open a 1,650 sq.ft. location at EastChase, a center located at the intersection of Taylor Road and EastChase Parkway in Montgomery, AL. Opening is slated for the first week of May. The store will offer a drive-thru window service as well as seated service. The company currently operates more than 7,500 locations throughout North America, Latin America, Europe, the Middle East and the Pacific Rim.

 Lowe’s Cos., Inc. (336-658-4000) opened a 116,000 sq.ft. store in Glenmont, NY. The company also is planning to open stores in Halfmoon and Latham, NY. The company currently operates 925 stores throughout 45 states. Under the company’s plan, it will open 140 stores this year and 150 during 2005.

 Applebee’s International, Inc. (913-967-4000) is planning to open approximately 100 Applebee’s restaurants this year, including at least 28 company-owned locations and 70 to 80 franchised locations. At least 10 company restaurants are expected to open in the first half of the year, with the balance opening in the second half. Approximately 20 to 25 restaurants are slated to open in the first half of the year, with the remainder opening in the second half. The company currently operates 1,585 Applebee’s restaurants throughout 49 states and nine international countries.

 Target Corp. (612-304-6073) is planning to open stores in the northern suburbs of NY. The company plans to open stores in Mount Vernon and Mount Kisco, NY by the end of the year, as well as in the Riverdale section of the Bronx, NY during July and in Bethel, CT in March. The company currently operates 1,476 stores throughout 47 states. The company also operates Marshall Field’s and Mervyn’s stores.

Burlington Coat Factory (609-387-7800) is planning to open three freestanding stores by the end of fiscal 2004, six additional Burlington Coat Factory stores and to convert two of the previously closed Decelle stores to Cohoes Fashions stores. The company currently operates more than 330 stores offering current, brand-name clothing, bath items, children’s apparel and furniture, gifts, jewelry, linens, and shoes. The company operates under such names as Burlington Coat Factory, Baby Depot, Cohoes Fashions, Luxury Linens, MJM Designer Shoes, and Totally 4 Kids in more than 40 states. 

Sonic Corp. (405-280-7654) is planning to open approximately 190 to 200 drive-in stores, including 165 to 175 franchised locations. Sonic currently operates and franchises more than 2,700 restaurants throughout 30 states, primarily in the South. Some locations also offer dine-in seating and drive-thru service. About 80% of Sonic’s restaurants are franchised.

 Stop & Shop (781-380-8000) is planning to open a store at Southbury Plaza in Southbury, CT. The 24,000 sq.ft. space was formerly occupied by Grand Union. The company will most likely apply to expand the space since most Stop & Shop locations are 60,000 sq.ft. The company currently operates 340 stores throughout CT, MA, NH, NJ, NY and RI.

 Nordstrom, Inc. (206-628-2111) is planning to open a 135,000 sq.ft. store in the Buckhead section of Atlanta, GA. The space in Phipps Plaza was formerly occupied by Lord & Taylor. The company currently operates 148 stores throughout 27 states. 

City Furniture (954-597-2200) is planning to boost its 660,000 sq.ft. headquarters in Tamarac, FL by a third this year and signed a deal to buy an adjacent land area of 20 acres for future expansion. A second, 520,000 sq.ft. addition, is being considered on that site, which would boost the size to 1.4 million sq.ft. The expansion coincides with the company’s plan to expand its retail locations and introduce a new furniture store concept. Currently, the company is planning to open a 60,000 sq.ft. or 70,000 sq.ft. store in Stuart, FL. 

Schnuck Markets, Inc. (314-994-9900) is planning to open a 63,000 sq.ft. combination food and drug store in the newly-developed Duck Creek Plaza in Bettendorf, IA. The center will be anchored by Home Depot, Marshall’s, Hallmark and Walgreens. The remaining portion of the existing mall will be demolished for the Schnucks, which is scheduled to open early next year. The company currently operates 102 stores and 93 in-store pharmacies throughout IL, IN, MI, MO, TN and WI.

Boston Pizza International, Inc. (604-270-1108) is planning to open seven Boston’s The Gourmet Pizza restaurants during the coming six years throughout the Portland, OR area. The company recently opened a restaurant at the Mill Plain Plaza located at the intersection of 164th and Mill Plain Boulevard in Vancouver, WA. The company expects to start construction of a restaurant in either Clackamas or Washington County, OR by the end of this year or early 2005, then focus on the areas of Bend, Corvallis, Eugene and Medford, OR. The stores typically average 7,500 sq.ft. The company grows primarily through franchise agreements and currently has plans to develop over 50 restaurants in AK, CO, central FL, OR, TX, WA, WY and Mexico.

 Captain D’s (615-391-5461) is planning to open 30 restaurants this year. The company currently owns, operates and franchises more than 565 restaurants throughout 23 states.

 Darden Restaurants, Inc. (407-245-5366) is planning to open one Bahama Breeze location and three Smokey Bones BBQ restaurants by the end of the quarter. During this fiscal year, the company expects to open 25 to 30 Smokey Bones locations. Darden Restaurants owns and operates over 1,300 restaurants, include Red Lobster, Olive Garden, Bahama Breeze, Smokey Bones and Seasons 52.

 Home Depot, Inc. (770-433-8211) is planning to open a 105,000 sq.ft. store at TigerTown, a center situated on a land area of 130 acres which is currently under construction near exit 58 of Interstate Highway 85 in Opelika, AL. The Home Depot is in the second phase of TigerTown and is slated to open during the Summer. The company also is planning to open a 102,000 sq.ft. store at Northland Mall in Carol Stream, IL. Home Depot currently operates 1,643 stores nationwide under the names Home Depot and EXPO Design Center.

 Timberline Steakhouse & Grill (316-773-3111 or 316-687-2277) opened a 6,400 sq.ft. restaurant at 13770 Blackbob Road in Olathe, KS. The restaurant will occupy its space in a 16,400 sq.ft. building on a pad site in front of a Lowe’s Home Improvement Center. The company currently operates five locations throughout KS and MO.
