Who's Opening & Where The Leather Factory, Inc. (817-496-4414) is planning to open Tandy stores during the first quarter of 2004. Gap, Inc. (949-719-0829) is planning to open 125 stores during 2004, while closing roughly the same number of existing stores. Most of the stores opening will be Old Navy discount outlets located in strip centers. Ross Stores, Inc. (510-505-4400) is planning to develop a new concept targeted at lower-income households. The company is planning to open 10 of the stores along the West Coast during the second half of 2004. The company currently operates 568 stores throughout 25 states. The Container Store (888-266-8246) opened a 25,000 sq.ft. location on Sixth Avenue between 18th and 19th Streets in New York, NY. The new unit contains two levels, including 25,000 sq.ft. of selling space at street level and a lower 20,000 sq.ft. level that houses back-up inventory. The store offers the specialty chain’s full selection of storage and organization products. The space was formerly occupied by Today’s Man. The company also is planning to open additional New York, NY locations in the future. Dollar Tree Stores, Inc. (757-321-5000) is planning to open 200 stores and relocate and expand 100 stores. The company currently operates 2,511 stores throughout 47 states. Brown Shoe Co., Inc. (314-854-4000) opened 19 stores during the third quarter of 2003 and is expecting more openings this year. The company currently operates 922 stores nationwide. Hibbett Sporting Goods, Inc. (205-942-4292) is planning to open approximately 60 to 65 stores this year. ShopKo Stores, Inc. (920-429-2211) is planning to add pharmacies to certain existing Pamida stores and will open Pamida and ShopKo Express Rx locations this year. Big Lots, Inc. (614-278-6800) is planning to open stores this year and will remodel 211 existing locations. The company currently operates 1,750 locations nationwide. Eckerd Corp. (800-325-3737) is planning to open a 16,000 sq.ft. store at the intersection of Fairview and Barclay Downs Drive in Charlotte, NC. The store will be one of the largest Eckerd stores ever constructed. Hooters (770-951-2040) is planning to open a restaurant at the intersection of Dublin Boulevard and San Ramon Road in Dublin, CA. American (608-271-1000) is planning to open three stores throughout the St. Louis, MO metropolitan area this year. American, a retailer of consumer electronics, appliances and furniture, is scheduled to open in Bridgeton and Fenton, MO and O’Fallon, IL during late Summer. All three stores will include a retail display, floor, warehouse, service center, delivery prepping area and car stereo installation department. Both the O’Fallon store, located on Central Park and the Fenton store, located at Gravois Bluffs on Highway 141 near Gravois Road, will contain a 126,000 sq.ft. The Bridgeton store, located off Highway 270 across from the St. Louis Mills Mall, will contain 149,000 sq.ft. and will include the company’s regional offices. Premiere Cinemas Corp. (713-995-4333) is planning to open a 12-screen movie complex within Orlando Fashion Square Mall in Orlando, FL. Opening is slated for the Fall. The theater will have all-stadium seating with all-digital surround sound. Darden Restaurants, Inc. (407-245-5366) is planning to open a 10,080 sq.ft. Smokey Bones Bar-B-Q restaurant along Route 31 in Clay, NY. The restaurant will be situated on a land area of 2.36 acres. Darden currently operates 1,200 restaurants nationwide, including Red Lobster and Olive Garden. Famous Uncle Al’s Hot Dogs, Inc. (407-333-8998) has signed a regional franchise agreement for territories that include the counties of Osceola, Orange and Brevard in FL. Qdoba Restaurant Corp. (303-629-5000) is planning to open a Qdoba Mexican Grill location at the intersection of 40th and Locust Street in Philadelphia, PA. The company is planning to open as many as 14 Qdoba Mexican Grill restaurants throughout the city during the coming four years. Brinker International, Inc. (972-980-9917) is planning to open a Rockfish Seafood Grill restaurant in The Woodlands Mall in Houston, TX. Opening is slated for February. Talbots (781-749-7600) recently opened a Talbots Mens location in New York, NY. The company is currently planning to open approximately six to eight Talbots Mens stores per year. Talbots currently operates more than 900 stores nationwide, including Talbots Kids, Talbots Woman, Talbots Petites, Talbots Accessories & Shoes and Talbots Outlet stores. The largest division is Talbots Petites, which operates 241 units. Talbots Mens offers a conservative line of career and casual wear. Tractor Supply Co. (615-360-6800) is planning to open approximately 190 stores during the coming two years. The farm and ranch supply retailer will open 52 stores this year and accelerate that rate to 13% by 2006. Most of the locations will be located throughout existing markets, but the company also will open its first stores in CA this year and concentrate heavily on expansion throughout the Northeast. Lowe’s Cos., Inc. (336-658-4000) is looking to open locations throughout major cities nationwide, including Chicago, IL and New York, NY. The company, which operates 925 stores nationwide, is looking to open 140 stores this year and 150 in 2005. Investment Management Corp. (919-781-5700) is planning to open 184 Golden Corral restaurants during the coming five years, with a focus on Detroit, MI; Chicago, IL; southern FL; GA and CA. The company said a franchiser in CA has acquired the rights for five restaurants to be completed in the near future, and that the state has potential for another 150 locations. CiCi’ Enterprises, Inc. (972-745-4200) is planning to open restaurants in Pittsburgh, PA. The company seeks sites between 4,000 sq.ft. to 6,000 sq.ft. Regis Corp. (952-947-7777) is planning to open Supercuts salons throughout MN. The stores will also sport a new prototype look, which includes bench-style seating, lots of light wood and an interior dotted with stainless steel and bright blue accents. Minneapolis, MN-based SC Salons of Minnesota signed a development deal to open at least 80 locations throughout the state during the coming 10 years. Save Mart Supermarkets (209-577-1600) is planning to open a 40,000 sq.ft. to 47,000 sq.ft. supermarket in Coalinga, CA. The supermarket will be constructed on a four-acre parcel behind Burger King and across from Kmart. Opening is slated for the Fall. Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Inc. (336-726-8917) is planning to open approximately 92 to 97 locations. The company also is planning to open 20 locations throughout Mexico during the coming six years. Krispy Kreme currently operates 333 stores throughout 42 states, Canada, the United Kingdom and Australia. Toys “R” Us, Inc. (973-617-3500) is planning to open approximately 10 stores this year. The company currently operates 1,629 stores worldwide, including 681 toy stores in the U.S., 569 international toy stores, 193 Babies “R” Us stores, 146 Kids “R” Us locations, 36 Imaginarium stores and four Geoffrey stores.
