Harkins Theatres (480-627-7777) is planning to open 10 theaters throughout
five markets totaling an estimated 166 screens. The theaters will open in AZ,
CA, CO, OK and TX, bringing the chain’s total screen count to 425 by 2006. Among
the 10 projects for Harkins Theatres include: Harkins Bricktown 16 located in
Oklahoma City, OK; Harkins Yuma Palms 14 located in Yuma, AZ; Harkins Coit
Center located in Plano, TX; Harkins Crossroads Marketplace 18 located in Chino
Hills, CA; Harkins Northfield Stapelton 18 located in Denver, CO; Harkins
Southlake Town Square 14 located in Southlake, TX; Harkins Moreno Valley 18
located in Moreno Valley, CA; Harkins Tempe Marketplace 18 located in Tempe, AZ;
Harkins Town Center at Cielo Vista 16 located in El Paso, TX and Harkins SanTan
Village 18 located in Gilbert, AZ.
Modell & Co., Inc. (212-822-1000) is planning to open a 17,880 sq.ft. store at
Kings Mall located at 1200 Ulster Avenue in Kingston, NY. The company currently
operates more than 105 sporting goods stores throughout DE, MD, NJ, NY, PA and
VA.
Robeks (310-545-6488) is planning to open at least 20 Fruit Smoothies & Healthy
Eats locations throughout CO during the coming four to five years. The chain’s
menu features made-to-order fruit smoothies, fresh juices, sandwiches, soups,
salads and baked goods. Robeks currently operates more than 50 stores throughout
seven states and is in the process of expanding through franchises into 25 major
U.S. metropolitan areas. In the next few months, the company plans to debut more
locations in Houston, TX; Washington, DC and Santa Fe, NM.
Red Robin Gourmet Burgers, Inc. (303-846-6000) is planning to open 21 to 22
company-owned restaurants this year. The company expects its franchisees to open
five to seven additional restaurants by the end of this year. The company
currently operates more than 230 Red Robin locations throughout the U.S. and
Canada.
U.S. Factory Outlets, Inc. (212-563-3650) has replaced a former Bradlee’s as the
anchor store at the Golden Acres Shopping Center in South Plainfield, NJ.
Overall, the company is planning to open four stores this year. Other new stores
are in Chambersburg, PA; Kokomo, IN and Bristol, TN. The company currently
operates stores throughout AZ, ID, IL, IN, MA, MO, MS, ND, NM, OH, PA, SC, TN,
TX and VA. It offers manufacturer closeouts and other items at discounts of 40%
to 80% off department stores prices.
Publix (863-688-1188) is planning to open a store in Vista Lakes, FL, a
master-planned community. The 45,000 sq.ft. store anchors a 112,000 sq.ft.
center located in the Vista Village Town Center. Cotenants include AmSouth Bank,
Subway, Hair Masters, Atlantis Real Estate, Golden Buffet, Global
Communications, The Movie Reel, The UPS Store, Eye Associates and Florida Home &
Investment Realty.
Best Buy Co., Inc. (952-947-2000) is planning to open two Magnolia Audio Video
stores in CA, bringing its total store count to 22. The stores will be located
in Canoga Park and Torrance, bringing the number of stores in the state to 11.
The company also is planning to open a Best Buy store at Village Pointe, a
center located at the intersection of 168th Street and West Dodge Road in Omaha,
NE. The 45,000 sq.ft. store will be built on a stand-alone pad at the northeast
portion of the center. Opening is slated for the Fall. Best Buy operates more
than 600 stores throughout the U.S. and Canada, with heavy concentrations in CA,
FL, IL and TX. It also operates more than 100 stores under the retail banners
Future Shop in Canada and Magnolia Audio Video throughout the Western U.S.
states.
Sears, Roebuck and Co. (847-286-2500) is planning to open Lands’ End Specialty
Store locations in upscale malls or in certain freestanding locations throughout
metropolitan areas. The company currently operates one retail store, several
outlet stores and an airport store.
Wendy’s International (614-764-3100) is working with Valenti Management to open
six to eight restaurants next year throughout the U.S., including three near the
Memphis, TN area. The new restaurants feature a double pick-up window. The
company currently operates nearly 6,500 restaurants.
Cabela’s, Inc. (308-254-5505) is planning to open two stores throughout TX next
year. The stores will be located in Fort Worth and Buda, about 15 miles south of
Austin, and will be the company’s 11th and 12th locations. In Fort Worth,
Cabela’s will build a 230,000 sq.ft. store situated on a land area of 50 acres
at the intersection of Highway 170 and Interstate 35W. The store in Buda will be
about 185,000 sq.ft. Both stores will feature a mountain replica, complete with
running waterfalls and trout ponds and walk-through freshwater aquariums. The
company also is planning to open a 175,000 sq.ft. store in Wheeling, WV this
August.
Advance Auto Parts (540-362—4911) is planning to open 125 to 135 stores this
year. Overall, the company operates 2,553 stores.
Saks, Inc. (205-940-4000) is planning to open a Parisian store in Collierville,
TN during October 2005 and a McRae’s store in Southaven, MS during 2006. The
company currently operates 241 SDSG stores, 62 Saks Fifth Avenue stores and 53
Off 5th units. During the recent quarter, the company opened four mall-based
Club Libby Lu stores, bringing the quarter-end total to 23.
Hooters of America, Inc. (770-951-2040) is planning to open a Hooters restaurant
at Fountain Walk, a center located off Interstate 96 in Novi, MI. Hooters of
America operates and franchises more than 350 Hooters restaurants throughout
approximately 40 states and a dozen other countries. The company operates about
120 locations and franchises the rest.
Outback Steakhouse, Inc. (813-282-1225) is planning to open an Outback
Steakhouse restaurant along Paul Huff Parkway in Cleveland, TN. An average
Outback restaurant is 6,000 sq.ft. The company currently operates 13 other
restaurants throughout TN, with locations in larger cities such as Nashville,
Jackson, Memphis, Knoxville and Chattanooga.
Kolache Factory (281-829-6188) is planning to open locations in Denver, CO and
McAllen, TX this summer. Additional bakery/cafes are scheduled to open in other
cities later this year. The company plans on opening 200 franchised locations by
2008. There are currently 14 company-owned and five franchised stores in
Houston; two franchised stores in Indianapolis, IN and one each in the following
cities: Phoenix, AZ; Louisville, KY and St. Louis, MO. Franchised stores are
slated to open in Cincinnati, OH; Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN; Atlanta, GA; WA; San
Antonio, TX and Tampa, FL.
Subway (203-877-4281) is planning to open 3,300 restaurants this year. So far
this year, the chain has opened more than 700 restaurants and another 1,600
locations are in various stages of development. The company currently operates
21,000 locations throughout 74 countries.
Lowe’s Cos., Inc. (336-658-4000) is planning to open 140 stores nationwide this
year and 150 stores during fiscal 2005. The company currently operates
approximately 950 stores throughout 45 states.
Cold Stone Creamery (480-348-1704) is planning to open a store at the Cathedral
City Center located in downtown Cathedral City, AZ. Cold Stone Creamery
franchises approximately 800 premium ice cream outlets throughout more than 40
states. A small number of locations are operated by the company.
