Who's Opening & Where Wal*Mart Stores, Inc. (650-837-5000) is planning to open a Wal*Mart Supercenter in Tega Cay, SC. The company is looking to open the store at Stonecrest, a planned development located at the intersection of S.C. 160 and Gold Hill Road. The company currently operates more than 4,800 stores, including approximately 1,475 discount stores, 1,750 combination Wal*Mart Supercenters throughout the U.S. and the U.K., and 540 Sam’s Club stores. Wal-Mart also has operations in South America, Asia and Europe.
Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Inc. (336-726-8917) is planning to open approximately 100 stores nationwide this year. The company currently operates approximately 400 locations throughout 44 states and Canada. Most of Krispy Kreme’s stores are freestanding units offering drive-thru service. Franchisees operate almost two-thirds of the chain’s locations.
Christopher & Banks (763-551-5000) is planning to open a CJ Banks store at Westfield Shoppingtown West Park in Cape Girardeau, MO. CJ Banks is a plus-sized women’s clothing store that will be located directly across from Christopher & Banks.
Subway (203-877-4281) is planning to open approximately 24 sub shops throughout the Tampa Bay, FL area this year. The company also is working to add to its new prototype shops that feature a modern Tuscany decor in spaces of about 1,500 sq.ft. The company currently operates approximately 19,000 stores and plans to develop more than 30,000 worldwide.
Lowe’s Cos., Inc. (336-658-4000) is planning to open a 150,000 sq.ft. Lowe’s Home Improvement Warehouse store with a garden center on 20 acres along the 377 bypass in Granbury, TX. Construction is expected to begin in January, with completion slated for next summer. The company currently operates more than 950 stores throughout 45 states.
Allied Domecq (781-961-4020) is planning to open nine Dunkin’ Donuts locations in and near Lancaster County, PA. The first, a store under construciton in Leola, will also offer Baskin-Robbins ice cream. Other locations will include opening mini-stores within existing stores, such as a Wal*Mart under construction in Morgantown and the GettyMart at the intersection of Roseville Road and Oregon Pike. Chipotle Mexican Grill (303-595-4000) is planning to open a restaurant located at 20209 East Smoky Hill Road in Aurora, CO. The company currently operates more than 350 restaurants throughout 25 markets nationwide.
Pier 1 Imports, Inc. (817-878-8000) is planning to open a 10,800 sq.ft. store in Lakewood, CO. The company currently has 26 stores throughout CO, including 15 in the Denver area. Overall, Pier 1 operates more than 1,000 stores throughout all 50 states, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico and the United Kingdom. This year, the company plans to open 115 stores in markets where it has only one store, as well as growing metropolitan areas.
Taco Del Mar (206-624-7060) is planning to open a 1,400 sq.ft. restaurant at 14870 Northsight in the Northsight Village III Shopping Center in Scottsdale, AZ. The company is looking to open a dozen stores by the end of the year. The company currently operates over 90 stores throughout the western U.S., Alaska and British Columbia, Canada.
Applebee’s International, Inc. (913-967-4000) is planning to open six Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill & Bar restaurants throughout the Houston, TX area by March 2005. The first location is scheduled to open early this summer at 19823 Northwest Freeway at the intersection of Highway 290 and FM 1960. The expansion will continue with a second location planned at the intersection of Fry Road and Interstate 10. The company operates more than 1,580 Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill & Bar locations across the U.S. and in nine other countries. Applebee’s International owns and operates nearly 25% of its restaurants; the rest are franchised.
Publix (863-688-1188) is planning to open four stores in the Montgomery, AL area. The stores include locations at Dalraida Commons located at the intersection of Atlanta Highway and Mitchell Avenue; Taylor Junction located at the intersection of Atlanta Highway and Taylor Road; Cornerstone located at the intersection of Vaughn Road and Taylor Road and Zelda Place located at the intersection of Zelda Road and Vaughn Road. Opening for all four stores is expected by the end of 2005. The company currently operates 812 supermarkets throughout AL, FL, GA, SC and TN.
Peet’s Coffee & Tea, Inc. (510-594-2100) is planning to open between 15 to 20 stores throughout the West Coast this year. The company currently operates approximately 80 coffee shops throughout seven states.
Redner’s Markets, Inc. (610-926-3700) is planning to open a Redner’s Warehouse Market at Oxford Square, a center located on Route 10 in Oxford, PA. The 55,000 sq.ft. store is slated to open during November. The company currently operates approximately 35 warehouse club-style supermarkets under the Warehouse Markets banner and a dozen Quick Shoppe convenience stores throughout eastern NY and eastern PA.
Rite Aid Corp. (717-761-2633) is planning to open or relocate between 40 and 50 Rite Aid stores by the end of fiscal 2005 and an additional 100 stores by the end of fiscal 2006. The company currently operates approximately 3,400 drugstores throughout 28 states and Washington, DC.
Trader Joe’s Co. (626-599-3700) is planning to open a Trader Joe’s store in a space formerly occupied by Zanotto’s Family Market in downtown Santa Cruz, CA. The company currently operates 217 stores throughout 17 states and will be opening at least eight to 10 stores by the end of this year. Carrabba’s (813-288-8286) is planning to open a 6,000 sq.ft. restaurant in Portage, MI.
Old Navy, Inc. (650-952-4400) is planning to open a 14,800 sq.ft. Old Navy store on Rib Mountain Drive in Rib Mountain, WI. Opening is slated for November.
Bebe Stores, Inc. (415-715-3900) is planning to open 20 Bebe stores during fiscal 2005. Depending upon the performance of the existing Bebe Sport locations and the overall retail environment, the company may open additional locations in fiscal 2005 and fiscal 2006. The company currently operates 191 stores, of which 173 are Bebe stores and 18 are Bebe Sport stores, nationwide and in Canada. The company designs and sells contemporary women’s clothes and accessories.
Rubio’s Restaurants, Inc. (760-929-8226) is planning to open five to eight company-owned restaurants during fiscal 2004.
