Who's Opening & Where


Ukrops Super Markets, Inc. (804-897-9604) is planning to open a 52,000 sq.ft. Ukrop’s Super Markets store at Williamsburg Marketcenter  located at the intersection of Route 199 and Mooretown Road in York County, VA. Opening is slated for the end of 2006. The store will feature kitchen products, a grill and cafe with seating for 150, a salad bar, sushi, meat and seafood, floral shop, a natural and organic section, a pharmacy and a First Market Bank. The company currently operates 28 retail supermarkets, Joe’s Market, a central bakery and kitchen and a distribution center.

 

Wal*Mart Stores, Inc. (650-837-5000) is planning to open a 39,000 sq.ft. Neighborhood Market store at the intersection of Pennsylvania Avenue and NW 23rd Street in Oklahoma City, OK. The store will be located on a pad site near the Penn Crossing Shopping Center. The space was formerly occupied by Grandy’s restaurant. Wal*Mart currently operates eight Neighborhood Market stores in Oklahoma City, Edmond, Moore and The Village.

 

Outback Steakhouse, Inc. (813-282-1225) is planning to open an Outback Steakhouse restaurant along Paul Huff Parkway in Cleveland, TN. An average Outback restaurant is 6,000 sq.ft. The company currently operates 13 other restaurants throughout TN, with locations in larger cities such as Nashville, Jackson, Memphis, Knoxville and Chattanooga.

 

Applebee’s International, Inc. (913-967-4000) is planning to open an Applebee’s restaurant at the former Bookbinders Seafood House in the Center City area of Philadelphia, PA. Opening is slated for December. The company currently operates more than 1,580 Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill & Bar locations across the U.S. and in nine other countries. Applebee’s International owns and operates nearly 25% of its restaurants; the rest are franchised.

 

Corky’s Ribs & BBQ (800-926-7597) is planning to open a restaurant on Highway 98 in Destin, FL. It will be the company’s first location owned by the company outside of the Memphis, TN area. Corky’s will open in what was the Destin Commissary, an offshoot of the Germantown Commissary, a familiar barbecue name in Memphis.

 

Haverty’s Furniture Cos., Inc. (404-881-1911) is planning to open a store in San Antonio, TX by the end of the year. It will be the company’s second store in San Antonio. Overall, the company plans on opening four stores and expanding two locations. The company currently operates 114 showrooms throughout 15 states.

 

Sur La Table (866-328-5412) is planning to open the following four stores by the end of the year: 5,565 sq.ft. at Freehold Raceway Mall in Freehold, NJ; 4,204 sq.ft. at Carmel Plaza in Carmel, CA; 6,200 sq.ft. at Crocker Park in Westlake, OH and 6,112 sq.ft. at Belmar in Lakewood, CO. The company currently operates approximately 40 locations.

 

Eckerd Corp. (800-325-3737) is planning to open 20 Eckerd stores throughout CO this year. The company is opening stores at the following locations in the Denver metro area: 3490 West Alameda Avenue in Denver; 8134 South Kipling Parkway in Littleton and 3650 35th Avenue in Evans. The company currently operates more than 2,775 stores throughout 23 states.

 

Wendy’s International (614-764-3100) is planning to open a takeout-only store at the site of a former Wendy’s restaurant near Whitehall, OH. The restaurant won’t have any indoor seating and will occupy a space of 1,296 sq.ft., less than half the size of a typical 3,149 sq.ft. Wendy’s.

 

Shaw’s Supermarkets (508-378-7211) opened a 65,000 sq.ft. store at Putnam Bridge Plaza, a 350,000 sq.ft. center in East Hartford, CT. The center is cotenanted by Home Depot, Staples, T.J. Maxx, H&R Block, CVS, Nathan’s Famous Hot Dogs and Dunkin’ Donuts.

 

Movie Gallery, Inc. (334-677-2108) is planning to open a Movie Gallery store at the south end of Huntington Plaza in Huntington, IN. The space was formerly occupied by Owen’s Supermarket. The Movie Gallery store will occupy 4,000 sq.ft. of the 20,000 sq.ft. building. Overall, the company is looking to open from 250 to 300 stores this year. Movie Gallery owns or franchises more than 2,200 video rental stores throughout all 50 states and Canada. Located mainly in rural and secondary markets, its stores rent and sell up to 20,000 movie titles and 1,000 video games. In addition, Movie Gallery sells videos and merchandise on the Internet and owns the Video Update chain, about 320 stores.

 

IKEA Corp. (610-834-0180) is planning to open a store near Interstate 595 and Nob Hill Road in Davie, FL. Opening is slated for 2006. Plans for the 40-acre site could include a 310,000 sq.ft. store. The company also is planning to open an Atlanta, GA store during Summer 2005. The company currently operates more than 190 stores throughout 31 countries, including 18 locations in the U.S. Besides Atlanta, the company is looking to open stores in Bloomington, MN; Brooklyn, NY; Dublin, CA; Frisco, TX; New Haven, CT; Philadelphia, PA; Somerville and Stoughton, MA and Tempe, AZ.

 

El Pollo Loco, Inc. (949-399-2000) is planning to open franchised restaurants throughout the Denver, CO area. The chain hopes to open its first local restaurant next year and would like to be operating 15 to 20 locations in metro Denver. The company currently operates 314 restaurants, including 136 company-owned and 178 franchisee-owned locations throughout AZ, CA, NV and TX. Overall, the chain plans to expand nationwide, recently launching a push into the Midwest and the East.

 

Famous Dave’s of America, Inc. (952-294-1300) is planning to open a 7,500 sq.ft. Famous Dave’s Legendary Pit Bar-B-Que restaurant in Las Vegas, NV. The restaurant is operated by Sonoran Barbeque, a Famous Dave’s franchisee which owns the Famous Dave’s in Tucson, AZ and has development rights to open 12 additional restaurants in parts of AZ, NM, NV and TX. The company currently owns 38 locations and franchises an additional 57 units throughout 24 states.

 

The Stride Rite Corp. (617-824-6000) is launching Shoe Buzz, the first of three kids’ only stores slated to open this year. The store will offer footwear for infants and children to age 10. The first store opened in Millbury, MA during May, while two additional stores are slated to open throughout the New York, NY area later this year.

 

Nordstrom, Inc. (206-628-2111) is planning to open Nordstrom stores in Boston, MA and Honolulu, HI during 2007 and 2008, respectively. The company also is taking over Lord & Taylor stores in Miami, FL and Atlanta, GA next year. Nordstrom sells clothes, shoes, and accessories throughout 90 Nordstrom stores and about 50 Nordstrom Rack locations throughout approximately 25 states. It also operates a clearance store, a freestanding shoestore, and five Façonnable boutiques, primarily in Europe, and it sells goods online and through catalogs.

 

Lowe’s Cos., Inc. (336-658-4000) is planning to open a store near State Highway 18 and Interstate 55 in Blytheville, AR. The company currently operates 11 stores throughout AR. Lowe’s operates more than 930 superstores throughout approximately 45 states.

 

The Kroger Co. (513-762-4000) is planning to open a 45,000 sq.ft. Kroger at Central Station, a proposed 76,000 sq.ft. center along Central Avenue in Louisville, KY. Opening is slated for the Spring. The company currently operates approximately 2,500 supermarkets throughout 32 states.
