Who's Opening & Where Shaw’s Supermarkets (508-378-7211) opened a 65,000 sq.ft. supermarket at Putnam Bridge Plaza located in East Hartford, CT.
Family Dollar Stores, Inc. (704-847-6961) is planning to open 500 to 560 stores during fiscal 2005 and will close 50 to 60 stores. The company currently operates more than 5,100 stores throughout 43 states and Washington, DC.
The Home Depot, Inc. (770-433-8211) is planning to open a 98,000 sq.ft. Home Depot store at the intersection of Green Valley Road and Loma Prieta Avenue in Watsonville, CA. Opening is slated for October. The company currently operates approximately 1,750 stores throughout the U.S., Canada and Mexico. The company also operates more than 50 EXPO Design Center stores, which have showrooms featuring bath, kitchen, and lighting products.
Save-a-Lot (314-592-9100) is planning to open stores throughout the Pittsburgh, PA area. The company currently operates as many as 15 stores throughout the area, but none of them are in the city limits. Save-a-Lot currently operates approximately 1,200 stores nationwide.
Applebee’s International, Inc. (913-967-4000) is planning to open six restaurants in the New England area. The company recently won a bid in U.S. bankruptcy court for six Ground Round restaurant locations. Applebee’s does not expect to have the restaurants converted and opened by the end of the year.
Bible Factory Outlet, LLC (256-878-4419) opened a store in Hershey, PA. This is the third store that the company has opened in the area in the past month. The other stores are located at the VF Outlets in Reading and at the Gettysburg Village Factory Outlets in Gettysburg. The company currently operates 62 stores throughout 19 states.
CVS Corp. (401-765-1500) is planning to open a 10,880 sq.ft. CVS store at the Pierre Moran Mall, a 425,337 sq.ft. center in Elkhart, IN. The mall is anchored by Sears and Kroger.
Cold Stone Creamery (480-348-1704) is planning to open a store at Cedar Hills Shopping Center in Beaverton, OR. The company currently operates 16 stores throughout OR. Opening is slated for the Summer.
Food Lion, LLC (704-633-8250) is planning to open five pilot stores to test a new concept, format and brand name. The “Bloom, A Food Lion Market” stores will be open by the end of the year in the Charlotte, NC area. The store design, layout and merchandising will be different from traditional Food Lion stores. The stores also will test new technologies in the retail environment, including technologies that help consumers find products, get information and check out easier. The company currently operates approximately 1,200 supermarkets. Nearly half of the company’s stores are in the Carolinas, but it also has outlets in nine other states, including FL, GA and PA.
Chick-fil-A, Inc. (404-765-8000) is planning to open a freestanding restaurant on Route 228 in Cranberry, PA. The company currently operates more than 30 restaurants statewide.
Kash N’ Karry Food Stores, Inc. (813-620-1139) is planning to open its new concept, Sweetbay Supermarket, stores in Seminole, Naples and Fort Myers, FL during the Fall. The stores have been designed especially for the FL market.
Papa Murphy’s (360-882-4608) is planning to open 80 Papa Murphy’s Take ‘N’ Bake Pizza locations this year. The expansion will see the company entering KY and MI and adding several other locations throughout Midwestern states. The company plans most of its growth for IL, with 20 stores slated to open there. The chain also is undergoing a redesign that includes new graphics, a new color palette, sampling ovens, walk-in coolers and a counter system that allows customers to see their pizzas being made.
Dave & Buster’s, Inc. (214-357-9588) is planning to open nine restaurant/entertainment centers after acquiring sites from Jillian’s Entertainment Holdings, Inc. The locations include sites at Franklin Mills Mall in northeast Philadelphia, PA; Minneapolis, MN; Phoenix, AZ; Concord, NC; Farmingdale, NY; Nashville, TN; Houston, TX; Arundel, MD and Westbury, NY. The complexes range in size from 46,000 sq.ft. to 68,000 sq.ft.
Bass Pro Shops, Inc. (417-873-5000) is planning to open a store at Lake Ray Hubbard on Interstate 30 in Garland, TX. The outdoors store will anchor the 28-acre Harbor Point development, which will include approximately 120,000 sq.ft. of retail selling space plus a restaurant, boat supercenter and a marina. Opening is slated for late next year. The company currently operates stores throughout 13 states. The outlets sell boats, campers, equipment and apparel for most outdoor activities and offer features such as archery ranges, fish tanks, snack bars, and video arcades.
Red Robin Gourmet Burgers, Inc. (303-846-6000) is planning to open about 12 restaurants throughout MI during the coming few years. Possible locations include Livonia, Flint Township, Grand Rapids, Saginaw, Rochester Hills, Jackson and Kalamazoo. The company currently operates approximately 200 restaurants nationwide and in Canada.
Farmer Jack Supermarkets (313-270-1000) is planning to open a Food Basics store on Warren Avenue in Dearborn Heights, MI. The company currently operates more than 645 stores throughout 10 states, Washington, DC and Ontario, Canada under the following tradenames: A&P, Waldbaum’s, The Food Emporium, A&P Super Foodmart, Super Fresh, Farmer Jack, Sav-A-Center, Dominion, The Barn Markets, Food Basics and Ultra Food & Drug.
Bill Miller Bar-B-Q (210-225-4461) is planning to open a location in Wilson County, TX during the Summer at the intersection of U.S. 181 and State Highway 97. Area retail includes H-E-B supermarket. The company currently operates 59 Bill Miller Bar-B-Q restaurants throughout San Antonio, Austin and Corpus Christi, TX.
Wendy’s International, Inc. (614-764-3100) is planning to open a Wendy’s restaurant at the former International House of Pancakes located at the intersection of 1235 VFW Parkway and Gardner Street in West Roxbury, MA. The 3,200 sq.ft. restaurant is expected to be built on a 35,000 sq.ft. lot. The company currently operates approximately 6,500 Wendy’s restaurants worldwide, with 80% of them franchised. The company also operates Tim Hortons, the Canadian-based coffee and baked-goods chain with more than 2,500 locations, and Baja Fresh Mexican Grill with more than 280 quick-service restaurants.
Northern Tool & Equipment Co. (952-894-9510) is planning to open a store in Asheville, NC. The 25,000 sq.ft. building is located on Patton Avenue. Opening is slated for either November or December.
Old Navy (650-952-4400) is planning to open a 15,000 sq.ft. store at Greenwood Mall in Bowling Green, KY.
