Who's Opening & Where Costco Wholesale Corp. (425-313-8100) is planning to open its second flagship Costco Home store in Phoenix, AZ. The 104,000 sq.ft. store would be located near the company’s Tempe, AZ store at the intersection of Elliot Road and Priest Drive. The space was formerly occupied by HomeBase.
Stater Bros. Markets (909-783-5000) is planning to open a 43,861 sq.ft. supermarket at Hidden Valley Plaza, a center located at 550 Hidden Valley Parkway in Corona, CA. Opening is slated for the Summer. The company currently operates 157 full-service supermarket locations, with 47 in San Bernardino County, 41 in Riverside County, 30 in Orange County, 27 in Los Angeles County, 10 in northern San Diego County and two in Kern County.
The Kroger Co. (513-762-4000) is planning to open a 104,000 sq.ft. Kroger supermarket at the Anderson Towne Center in Cincinnati, OH. The site will be the largest of the company’s 2,500 stores and will include a Starbucks Coffee shop, a Fred Meyer Jewelry store, a fuel station, a drive-thru pharmacy window and a photo lab.
Wal*Mart Stores, Inc. (650-837-5000) is planning to open a 200,000 sq.ft. Wal*Mart Supercenter in Mukwonago, WI. The building would sit in the village’s Gateway district near Interstate 43 and Highway 83. The company currently operates 30 Supercenters throughout WI and 1,400 throughout the U.S. The stores range in size from 99,000 sq.ft. to 220,000 sq.ft.
Granite City Food & Brewery (952-525-2030) opened a restaurant in Davenport, IA. The company is planning to open a restaurant in Lincoln, NE this month and a location in Maple Grove, MN during the Summer. The company currently operates six restaurants featuring made-from-scratch food and handcrafted beers.
Jack-In-The-Box, Inc. (858-571-2121) is planning to open 65 restaurants this year. The company operates and franchises Jack-In-The-Box and Qdoba Mexican Grill restaurants throughout 32 states. Jack-In-The-Box operates more than 1,950 restaurants, while Qdoba Mexican Grill has more than 130 restaurants.
Red Robin (303-846-6000) is planning to open eight restaurants throughout the Dallas/Fort Worth, TX metroplex during the coming six years.
Checkers (813-283-7000) is planning to open as many as 25 restaurants this year. The company currently operates 785 locations nationwide.
Yankee Candle Co., Inc. (413-665-8306) opened four stores during the fourth quarter. The company currently operates 286 stores throughout 42 states.
Polo Ralph Lauren (212-318-7516) opened a 3,500 sq.ft. store in New Canaan, CT. The company also is developing growth opportunities throughout Asia. Polo Ralph Lauren currently operates 265 stores, including 55 Ralph Lauren stores, 62 Club Monaco stores, 117 Polo Outlet stores, 22 Polo Jeans Co. Outlet stores and nine Club Monaco outlet stores.
Big Lots, Inc. (614-278-6800) is planning to open four stores in the metro Detroit, MI area. The company recently opened a 28,000 sq.ft. store in the Farmington Grand Plaza on Grand River in Farmington Hills, MI. It also plans to open three stores in Shelby Township, Sterling Heights and a yet-to-be-disclosed location. This Summer the company also will update four older stores in Southfeld, Warren, Clinton Township and Sterling Heights with new layouts, signs, storefronts and light fixtures. Big Lots operates more than 1,400 stores throughout 45 states.
Eckerd Corp. (800-325-3737) opened three Eckerd stores throughout FL. The first store opened at the intersection of County Road 466 and County Road 101 in The Villages in Leesburg. The second store is an outparcel to Clayton Plaza, a center located at the intersection of State Route 60 and Kings Avenue in Brandon. The third location opened at the intersection of Narcoosee Road and Lee Vista Boulevard in Orlando. The company also is opening a 13,813 sq.ft. store at the intersection of U.S. 27 and Glenbrook Boulevard in Clermont and a store at the intersection of State Route 64 and Lakewood Ranch Boulevard in Bradenton.
Save-A-Lot (314-592-9100) is planning to open a supermarket in Central Park Plaza located in the Buffalo, NY area. The company is also planning to fill an empty Quality Markets location in the West Side Plaza on West Ferry Street in Buffalo.
CiCi’s Enterprises, Inc. (972-745-4200) is planning to open a 4,800 sq.ft. CiCi’s Pizza at the New Albany Plaza in Louisville, KY. Overall, the company is planning to open 10 locations during the coming four to five years. The company currently operates 450 CiCi’s restaurants.
Wraps, Inc. (416-496-2595) launched a U.S. expansion with the opening of a store at Shafer Plaza, a center located at 2995 Preston Road in Frisco, TX. The Toronto, Ontario, Canada-based chain of pita sandwich restaurants, is seeking franchisees for more locations planned throughout the region. The company currently operates approximately 100 locations, mainly in Canada, or under construction across North America.
Best Buy Co. (952-947-2000) is planning to open 73 stores throughout the U.S. and Canada during the coming year. Included in that total, the company expects to open approximately 60 domestic Best Buy stores. Approximately one-third of the stores are slated to be in the 45,000 sq.ft. format, another third in the 30,000 sq.ft. format and the remainder in the smaller-market format. Most of the stores will be opened throughout existing markets. Plans, however, include the company’s first store in HI as well as a new flagship superstore in West Hollywood, CA. The company also plans on opening 10 Best Buy stores in Canada, predominantly in the 30,000 sq.ft. format. New markets include Calgary, Alberta; Regina, Saskatchewan and Langley, British Columbia. The company also expects to open Best Buy stores in the greater Toronto, Canada area.
Lowe’s Cos., Inc. (336-658-4000) is planning to open a Lowe’s Home Improvement store at the Delavan Crossings Shopping Center in Delavan, WI. The 165,000 sq.ft. store would be located near a Wal*Mart Supercenter and a Kohl’s Department Store. Overall, the company plans to open 140 stores nationwide this year and 150 stores next year.
Sportsman’s Warehouse (801-566-6681) is planning to open a store at the intersection of Kietzke and Moana Lanes in Reno, NV. The roof of the building is being raised to accommodate the retailer’s oversized features, which include a tent loft. The store specializes in hunting and fishing accessories. Opening is slated for July. The chain currently operates 20 stores and will have 24 by the time the Reno location opens.
Supercuts, Inc. (952-947-7777) signed a 15-year area development agreement for 35 franchised locations throughout PA and WV with franchisee Steven C. Breuner, who operates 26 locations throughout PA. The agreement calls for locations in Pittsburgh, Morgantown, Altoona, State College, Harrisburg, York, Allentown and Lancaster, PA.
