Federated Department Stores, Inc. (212-704-3300) is planning to open a Bloomingdale’s or Macy’s store in the San Francisco, CA area during 2006. The company currently operates more than 400 stores throughout 34 states, Guam and Puerto Rico.
Walgreen Co. (847-914-2500) is planning to open approximately 2,500 Walgreens stores by the year 2010. The company currently operates 4,480 stores throughout 44 states and Puerto Rico.
Circuit City Stores, Inc. (804-527-4000) is planning to open a 34,202 sq.ft. Circuit City store at the intersection of Interstate 70 South Outer Road and Suemandy Drive in St. Peters, MO. The store will be located adjacent to Mid Rivers Mall. Opening is slated for June 2005. The company currently operates approximately 600 stores throughout the U.S. In addition to superstores, the company also sells its products through mall-based Express Circuit City stores and online. During 2005, the company expects to open between 60 to 70 new or relocated superstores.

Sears, Roebuck & Co. (847-286-2500) recently acquired 50 stores from Kmart Holding Corp. The company plans to take possession of the stores during early next year, close them temporarily for two to four months for renovations, then reopen a majority of them later in the year. The stores, which are slightly smaller than the typical Sears store, will open under a mid-sized format offering traditional Sears products. The location will feature Corner Bakery’s menu of baked breads, specialty sandwiches, soups, salads, pastas and sweets for dining in or carry out. Brinker International currently operates approximately 975 Chili’s Grill & Bar locations, Romano’s Macaroni Grill and the On The Border Mexican Grill & Cantina. Its smaller chains include Maggiano’s Little Italy, Rockfish Seafood Grill and Big Bowl Asian Kitchen.
The Cheesecake Factory, Inc. (818-871-3000) is planning to open a Grand Lux Café restaurant in Houston, TX next month. The company currently operates 84 upscale, casual-dining restaurants under The Cheesecake Factory name. The company also operates a bakery production facility that produces over 50 varieties of cheesecake and other baked products for the company’s restaurants. AMC Theatres (816-221-4000) is planning to open a freestanding 14-screen theater at Northlake Mall located at the intersection of Interstate 77 and Reames Road in north Mecklenburg, NC. Opening is slated for September 2005. The 60,000 sq.ft. theater will seat 2,500. The company owns approximately 240 theaters that house about 3,500 screens, 70% of which are in multiplexes and megaplexes. Its theaters are located throughout 27 states and Washington, DC, as well as in Canada, France, Hong Kong, Japan, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom.
La-Z-Boy, Inc. (734-242-1444) is planning to open between 20 to 25 stores next year. The company currently operates more than 300 La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries and nearly 370 in-store galleries at furniture dealers, department stores and other outlets.

Cabela’s, Inc. (308-254-5505) is planning to open a 175,000 sq.ft. Cabela’s store at the Meadowlands Sports Complex in East Rutherford, NJ. Opening is slated for August 2007. The store will include a shooting gallery, indoor archery range, a gun library, a mountain replica and a 40,000-gallon freshwater aquarium. The company also is currently opening two other locations in TX. The New Jersey store will be the company’s 13th location.
Wal*Mart Stores, Inc. (650-837-5000) is planning to open between 40 and 45 discount stores and 240 to 250 Wal*Mart Supercenter locations during fiscal 2005. Of the new Supercenters, approximately 160 will be relocations or expansions of existing stores. The company also plans to extend its Neighborhood Market concept by adding 25 to 30 units during the next fiscal year.
