Rita’s Water Ice Franchise Corp. (800-677-7482) is looking to open Rita’s Water Ice stores throughout PA, NJ, MD, NY, VA, OH, FL, DE, WV and CT. The company prefers freestanding locations, small pad sites or endcap units from 700 sq.ft. to 1,500 sq.ft. The company currently operates 305 locations throughout PA, NJ, NY, OH, FL, SC, VA, MD, CT and DE.
 

The Stride Rite Corp. (617-824-6000) is launching Shoe Buzz, the first of three kids’ only stores slated to open this year. The store will offer footwear for infants and children to age 10. The first store opened in Millbury, MA during May, while two additional stores are slated to open throughout the New York, NY area later this year.

 

Allied Domecq (781-961-4020) is planning to open nine Dunkin’ Donuts locations in and near Lancaster County, PA. The first, a store under construction in Leola, will also offer Baskin-Robbins ice cream. Other locations will include opening mini-stores within existing stores, such as a Wal*Mart under construction in Morgantown, PA and the GettyMart at the intersection of Roseville Road and Oregon Pike.

 

Bible Factory Outlet, LLC (256-878-4419) opened a store in Hershey, PA. This is the third store that the company has opened in the area during the past month. The other stores are located at the VF Outlets in Reading and at the Gettysburg Village Factory Outlets in Gettysburg. The company currently operates 62 stores throughout 19 states.

 

Applebee’s International, Inc. (913-967-4000) is planning to open an Applebee’s restaurant at the former Bookbinders Seafood House in the Center City area of Philadelphia, PA. Opening is slated for December. The company currently operates more than 1,580 Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill & Bar locations across the U.S. and in nine other countries. Applebee’s International owns and operates nearly 25% of its restaurants; the rest are franchised.

 

Cold Stone Creamery (480-348-1704) is planning to open 32 stores throughout NC during the coming three to five years. The company currently operates 18 stores throughout NC and has stores under construction in Greenville, Jacksonville, Charlotte and Durham. The company currently operates  750 locations nationwide.

 

Ruby Tuesday (865-379-5700) is planning to open a restaurant at the Wal*Mart Shopping Center located at the intersection of New Jersey Route 66 and Jumping Brook Road in Neptune, NJ. The company currently owns, operates and franchises more than 650 casual-dining restaurants throughout the U.S. The company also is planning to open locations in North Haven, CT and Middletown, NY later this year.

 

Advance Auto Parts, Inc. (540-362-4911) is planning to open approximately 125 to 135 stores this year. The company currently operates 2,503 stores throughout 39 states in the Northeast, Southeast and Midwest. These stores operate primarily under the Advance Auto Parts tradename except in FL, where the company operates as Advance Auto Parts or Discount Auto Parts. In addition, the company operates 36 stores under the Western Auto trade name, located primarily in Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.

 

The Book Market (865-558-8187) is planning to open locations nationwide this year. The company prefers spaces of 7,000 sq.ft. to 30,000 sq.ft.

 

Movie Gallery, Inc. (334-677-2108) is planning to open a Movie Gallery store at the south end of Huntington Plaza in Huntington, IN. The space was formerly occupied by Owen’s Supermarket. The Movie Gallery store will occupy 4,000 sq.ft. of the 20,000 sq.ft. building. Overall, the company is looking to open from 250 to 300 stores this year. Movie Gallery owns or franchises more than 2,200 video rental stores throughout all 50 states and Canada. Located mainly in rural and secondary markets, its stores rent and sell up to 20,000 movie titles and 1,000 video games. In addition, Movie Gallery sells videos and merchandise on the Internet and owns the Video Update chain which operates about 320 stores.

 

Chipotle Mexican Grill (303-595-4000) is planning to open three restaurants throughout the Baltimore, MD area. One restaurant will be located in Bel Aire, MD and will open during October, while another location will be at the Hunt Valley Towne Center and will open during December. The openings will make a total of five Chipotle restaurants in the Baltimore, MD area. The company currently operates locations throughout 20 states.

 

Sur La Table (866-328-5412) is planning to open the following four stores by the end of the year; a 5,565 sq.ft. location at Freehold Raceway Mall in Freehold, NJ; 4,204 sq.ft. at Carmel Plaza in Carmel, CA; 6,200 sq.ft. at Crocker Park in Westlake, OH and 6,112 sq.ft. at Belmar in Lakewood, CO. The company currently operates approximately 40 locations.

 

Panera Bread (314-633-7100) is planning open a restaurant at Orange Plaza, a 900,000 sq.ft. center located off Dunning Road in Middletown, NY. The company also recently opened a store at Shrewsbury Plaza, a 225,000 sq.ft. center located in Shrewsbury, NJ. The company also is planning to open a restaurant at the former Aspen Inn location at the intersection of Routes 22 and 512 in Northampton County, PA. The company also is planning to open a location in Bethlehem, PA early next year. The company currently operates more than 600 bakery/cafes throughout approximately 35 states. Its locations, which operate under the Panera and Saint Louis Bread Company banners, offer made-to-order sandwiches built using a variety of artisan breads. More than 70% of its locations are operated by franchisees.

 

The Smith & Wollensky Restaurant Group, Inc. (212-838-2061) is planning to open a Smith & Wollensky restaurant in Boston, MA during the Fall. The company currently operates 17 locations, including restaurants in New York, NY; Miami Beach, FL; Chicago, IL; New Orleans, LA; Las Vegas, NV; Washington, DC, Philadelphia, PA; Columbus, OH; Dallas and Houston, TX. The company also operates restaurants in New York, NY, including Cite, Maloney & Porcelli, Manhattan Ocean Club, Onec.p.s., Park Avenue Café and The Post House.

 

Office Depot, Inc. (561-438-4800) is planning to open up to 60 Office Depot stores throughout the Northeast. Office Depot sells office supplies at more than 1,000 company-owned and licensed stores worldwide, including about 900 located in the U.S.

 

Save-a-Lot (314-592-9100) is planning to open stores throughout the Pittsburgh, PA area. The company currently operates as many as 15 stores throughout the area, but none of them are in the city limits. Save-a-Lot currently operates approximately 1,200 stores nationwide.

 

Chick-fil-A, Inc. (404-765-8000) is planning to open a freestanding restaurant on Route 228 in Cranberry, PA. The company currently operates more than 30 restaurants statewide.

 

Red Robin Gourmet Burgers (303-846-6000) is planning to open a Red Robin restaurant at the Waterfront in Homestead, PA, outside of Pittsburgh. Opening is slated for October. The company currently operates more than 230 locations nationwide.

 

Weis Markets, Inc. (570-286-4571) is planning to open a 53,712 sq.ft. superstore at the Honeygo Village Center located at the intersection of Scott Way and Honeygo Boulevard in Whitemarsh, MD. The superstore features include a full-service deli with a brick oven pizza operation, a made-to-order hoagie and sandwich station and a sit-down dining area. The deli, which has an express register, also includes a sushi station, an olive bar and offers home meals. The store also has a 600-item produce department, an organic and natural food selection, a full-service pharmacy, a bakery, a service meat case and a seafood case. The company currently operates 158 stores throughout MD, NJ, NY, PA, VA and WV. In addition to the Weis Markets banner, the company also runs stores under the Mr. Z’s Food Mart, King’s Supermarkets, Save-A-Lot and Scot’s Lo-Cost names. Weis Markets also owns more than 30 SuperPetz pet supply stores throughout 11 southern and midwestern states.

 

Pier 1 Imports, Inc. (817-878-8000) is planning to open a 9,400 sq.ft. Pier 1 Imports store at Towne Crossing, a 430,000 sq.ft. center located on County Route 542, also known as Burlington-Mt. Holly Road, in Burlington, NJ. The center is cotenanted by Burger King, Dick’s Sporting Goods, OfficeMax, Target, Home Depot, Kohl’s and T.G.I. Friday’s. Area retail includes Regional Burlington Center Mall and Regal Cinema complex. Pier 1 Imports, Inc. operates approximately 1,100 Pier 1 Imports stores throughout the U.S. and Canada and through its The Pier chain with 29 stores in the U.K.

 

Robeks (310-545-6488) is planning to open at least 20 Fruit Smoothies & Healthy Eats locations throughout CO during the coming four to five years. The chain’s menu features made-to-order fruit smoothies, fresh juices, sandwiches, soups, salads and baked goods. Robeks currently operates more than 50 stores throughout seven states and is in the process of expanding through franchises into 25 major U.S. metropolitan areas. In the next few months, the company plans to debut more locations in Houston, TX; Washington, DC and Santa Fe, NM.

 

U.S. Factory Outlets, Inc. (212-563-3650) opened a 58,000 sq.ft. U.S. Factory Outlets store at the Southgate Shopping Center in Chambersburg, PA. The space was formerly occupied by Ames. The company currently operates locations throughout ID, IL, IN, MA, MO, MS, ND, OH, PA, SC, TN, TX and VA. It offers manufacturer closeouts and other items at 40% to 80% off department store prices.

 

Famous Footwear (608-827-3595) is planning to open stores nationwide. The company prefers spaces of 4,500 sq.ft. to 6,000 sq.ft. in regional malls and 6,500 sq.ft. to 8,500 sq.ft. in power and strip centers. The company currently operates more than 900 stores throughout all 50 states.

 

Dick’s Sporting Goods (412-787-1330) is planning to open 28 stores this year and 12 stores during the first quarter of 2005. The openings include three stores that had previously been planned to open as Galyan’s stores. The company also is planning to open a store at the Crossings at Fox Run, a center located in Portsmouth, NH. The company currently operates 221 stores throughout 32 states.

 

Walgreen Co. (847-914-2500) is planning to open two Walgreen stores throughout the Tampa Bay, FL area. The company also is looking to open a store on Bonita Beach Road in Bonita Beach, FL.

 

Michaels Stores, Inc. (800-642-4235) is planning to open a 21,390 sq.ft. Michaels store at the New Lenox Retail Center in New Lenox, IL. The center is cotenanted by Target and Lowe’s Home Improvement. The company currently operates 829 stores throughout 48 states and Canada.

 

Qdoba Restaurant Corp. (303-629-5000) is planning to open a Qdoba Mexican Grill restaurant at the intersection of Franklin and Columbia Streets in Chapel Hill, NC. The company currently operates approximately 150 restaurants nationwide.

 

The Kroger Co. (513-762-4000) is planning to open a supermarket at the Graceland Shopping Center located at the intersection of North High Street and Morse Road in Columbus, OH.

 

Gap, Inc. (949-719-0829) is planning to open an Old Navy store at The Shops at Tanforan, a center located in San Francisco, CA, during Fall 2005.

 

Circuit City Stores, Inc. (804-527-4000) is planning to open a 34,202 sq.ft. Circuit City store at the intersection of Interstate 70 South Outer Road and Suemandy Drive in St. Peters, MO. Construction is slated to begin during October, with opening slated for June 2005.

 

Brinker International (972-980-9917) is planning to open 20 Chili’s restaurants throughout AL and MS. In Mississippi, the company is opening restaurants throughout 19 smaller markets and non-metro cities and towns throughout the state. The company currently operates 1,000 Chili’s Grill & Bar locations throughout 24 countries. Brinker International also operates restaurants under the following tradenames: Romano’s Macaroni Grill, Maggiano’s Little Italy, On The Border Mexican Grill & Cantina, Big Bowl Asian Kitchen, Corner Bakery Café and Rockfish Seafood Grill. 

 

Muvico Theaters, Inc. (954-564-6550) is planning to open a 20-screen megaplex movie theater at Aviation Plaza, a 500,000 sq.ft. center located in Linden, NJ. The theater will feature approximately 4,000 seats and will offer valet parking. The company currently operates 12 theaters with 233 screens throughout FL, MD and TN, with additional screens in various stages of development across the southeastern and Mid-Atlantic states.

 

Great Clips, Inc. (952-893-9088) is planning to open between 260 and 270 salons this year. The company currently operates approximately 2,000 locations nationwide.

 

AMC Theatres (816-221-4000) is planning to open a freestanding 14-screen theater at Northlake Mall located at the intersection of Interstate 77 and Reames Road in north Mecklenburg, NC. Opening is slated for September 2005. The 60,000 sq.ft. theater will seat 2,500. The company owns approximately 240 theaters that house about 3,500 screens, 70% of which are in multiplexes and megaplexes. Its theaters are located throughout 27 states and Washington, DC, as well as in Canada, France, Hong Kong, Japan, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom.

 

Wendy’s International, Inc. (614-764-3100) is planning to open a Wendy’s restaurant at the intersection of South Fourth Street and Emmaus Avenue in Allentown, PA. The company currently operates approximately 6,500 Wendy’s restaurants worldwide, 80% of them franchised. In addition to the company’s core concept, Wendy’s owns Tim Hortons, the Canadian-based coffee and baked-goods chain with more than 2,500 locations, most of them franchised, and Baja Fresh Mexican Grill, with more than 280 quick-service restaurants, about half of which are owned by franchisees.
