Who's Opening Where CVS Corp. (401-765-1500) is planning to open 25 to 30 CVS stores throughout the Houston, TX area each year for the coming several years. CVS currently operates approximately 4,200 stores throughout 33 states and Washington, DC.
Rubio’s Restaurants, Inc. (760-929-8226) is planning to open five to eight company-owned restaurants during fiscal 2004. The company currently operates more than 130 Rubio’s Baja Grill casual dining restaurants. Rubio’s eateries operate primarily in CA, but are also located throughout AZ and CO. It also franchises units in Las Vegas, NV.
The Territory Ahead (805-962-5558) opened a store at South Coast Plaza, a center located at the intersection of San Diego Freeway and Bristol Street in Costa Mesa, CA. The company is known for its unique clothing designs and has made its men’s and women’s apparel available primarily through its catalogs and Web site. However, the company is planning to make a move towards opening a select group of stores during the coming several years. The Territory Ahead currently operates a store in Water Tower Place, an upscale center located in downtown Chicago, IL and its flagship store at 515 State Street in Santa Barbara, CA.
Dollar Stores (800-829-2915) is looking to open locations from 1,000 sq.ft. to 10,000 sq.ft. and above nationwide. Overall, the company is looking to open 200 stores this year.
Burlington Coat Factory (609-387-7800) is planning to open a store in Stamford, CT. The facility is located at the intersection of Summer and Broad Street in a space formerly occupied by a Caldor department store. The 120,000 sq.ft. store will be split into two levels with a 225-car parking garage on top of the building. This store will be more upscale than the prototypical store with an additional 40,000 sq.ft. of retail space. Area retail includes Target, Wal*Mart and Sam’s Club. The company currently operates more than 330 stores offering current, brand-name clothing at less than the standard retail price. The company operates under such tradenames as Burlington Coat Factory, Baby Depot, Cohoes Fashions, Luxury Linens, MJM Designer Shoes, and Totally 4 Kids throughout more than 40 states.
Pasta Pomodoro (310-979-9254) is planning to open three restaurants throughout the greater Sacramento, CA area by this September. The next opening is slated for this month at a center in Roseville, CA. After that, the company is looking to open a location at a center in Elk Grove, CA during June, followed by one in the former Fireside Restaurant & Bar in east Sacramento, CA during September.
Petco (858-453-7845) acquired 20 former Kids “R” Us stores from Office Depot for approximately $45 million in cash plus the assumption of lease obligations on leased properties. The 20 stores, concentrated in FL and OH, with other locations in IL, KS, MI, NC and NY, are part of the 124 Kids “R” Us properties that Office Depot agreed to acquire during March. At the time, Office Depot announced its commitment to convert 50 to 60 Kids “R” Us stores to Office Depot locations as well as the intention to sell the remaining properties. Office Depot currently operates 900 retail stores in addition to a national business-to-business delivery network supported by 22 delivery centers. Petco currently operates 654 stores throughout 43 states and Washington, DC.
Cartridge World (510-594-9900) is planning to open four locations throughout Austin, TX this year. The first store will open next month and will be located on RR 620 in far northwest Austin. Two other stores will open by the end of the year in Round Rock and Cedar Park, TX. Each store averages between 1,000 sq.ft. and 1,600 sq.ft. The company allows customers to bring in empty printer, copier or fax cartridges to the store to be refilled in less than 10 minutes.
Red Robin Gourmet Burgers, Inc. (303-846-6000) is planning to expand with new franchises opening throughout NY and TX. The company signed one agreement with Swan Concepts, Inc. for the NY locations. Swan will build five Red Robin restaurants in the upstate and mid-Hudson areas. The first opening is slated for this summer. The second franchise agreement was signed with Restaurant Robin, LP, which intends to build five locations in the Rio Grande Valley. Crawford Furniture Manufacturing Corp. (716-661-9100) is planning to open a 27,000 sq.ft. store in the soon-to-be renamed Sheridan Shopping Center in Amherst, NY. The 140,000 sq.ft. center is being renamed Crawford Furniture Outlet Plaza once the store opens.
Tiffany & Co. (212-755-8000) is planning to open a 5,500 sq.ft. jewelry store at the corner of Post Road and Main Street in downtown Westport, CT. The space was formerly occupied by Eddie Bauer. The company currently operates 51 stores throughout the U.S. and 90 international stores.
Peebles, Inc. (434-447-5200) is planning to open several Peebles department store locations throughout the Atlanta, GA area this year. The first store to open will be in the Winder, GA area by Spring 2005. Overall, the company is planning to open 15 to 20 stores this year and up to 50 during 2005. The stores will open up under the Peebles and Beall’s tradenames. The company currently operates stores throughout 17 states, mostly in the Mid-Atlantic region. Belk currently operates 225 stores throughout 14 Southeastern states.

Cabela’s sells footwear, clothing, and gear for fishing, hunting, camping, and other outdoor activities. The company also sells merchandise online.
The May Department Stores, Inc. (314-342-6300) is planning to open a Foley’s department store at the Firewheel Town Center complex located in Garland, TX. The two-level, 140,000 sq.ft. store is slated to open during Fall 2005. It will be the company’s 16th Foley’s store in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. The center will be co-anchored by Dillard’s and AMC Theaters. When completed, Firewheel will include about 245,000 sq.ft. of specialty retail space and four to six restaurants.

The test stores are also larger than the 6,700 sq.ft. traditional stores, with 16,000 sq.ft. of space. The company currently operates two of the test stores in TN. Overall, the company is planning to open 675 traditional Dollar General stores this year.

Famous Dave’s, Inc. (952-294-1300) has signed a development agreement with a Big Ten Ribs, Inc., a franchisee to open four Famous Dave’s Legendary Pit Bar-B-Que restaurants throughout the Columbus, OH area. Big Ten Ribs currently operates a restaurant in Flint, MI and holds the right to develop four additional franchises in central MI and Toledo, OH. Famous Dave’s, Inc. is a developer, owner, operator and franchisor of barbeque restaurants with 38 owned locations and 54 franchised restaurants and franchise agreements for the development of an additional 163 locations.
Bear Rock Café (919-859-6610) is planning to open three franchised locations during the second quarter of this year, including a 4,300 sq.ft. restaurant at the Canyon Creek Center in Richardson, TX; a 4,000 sq.ft. restaurant at the Thompson Valley Town Center in Loveland, CO and a 3,500 sq.ft. site at the Millenia Plaza Center in Orlando, FL. More than 25 Bear Rock Café restaurants are slated to open this year.

IKEA (610-834-0180) is planning to open a 290,000 sq.ft. store in Canton Township, MI during 2006. The store will be situated on a land area of 23 acres at the intersection of Ford and Haggerty Roads. The space was formerly occupied by a Super Kmart store. The company currently operates more than 175 stores worldwide.
Papa Murphy’s (360-882-4608) is planning to open 80 Papa Murphy’s Take ‘N’ Bake Pizza locations this year. The expansion will see the company entering KY and MI and adding several other locations throughout Midwestern states. The company plans most of its growth for IL, with 20 stores slated to open there. The company currently operates more than 1,130 restaurants throughout 37 states and Washington, DC.
