Jack in the Box Inc. (858-571-2121) is planning to open a Jack-In-The-Box restaurant at the intersection of West Washington Avenue and River Road in Sequim, WA. Area retail includes Wal*Mart. The company currently operates and franchises over 2,000 of its flagship hamburger outlets throughout 17 states, primarily in the West and Southwest. The chain offers standard fast-food fare along with salads, tacos, and breakfast items. More than 1,550 locations are company-owned while the rest are franchised. In addition to its mainstay burger business, Jack in the Box runs a chain of nearly 180 Qdoba Mexican Grill fast-casual eateries through its Qdoba Restaurants unit.

 

Applebee’s International, Inc. (913-967-4000) is planning to open an Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill & Bar restaurant on Route 109 in Sanford, ME. The company currently operates more than 1,625 Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill & Bar locations across the U.S. and in nine other countries. Its eateries are primarily freestanding units. The company owns and operates nearly 25% of its restaurants; the rest are franchised.

 

Zero’s Mr. Submarine, Inc. (757-486-8338) is planning to open between 12 and 18 Zero’s Subs locations throughout AZ, CA, FL, NC, NV and VA during the coming 18 months. The restaurants occupy spaces of 1,000 sq.ft. to 1,600 sq.ft. in outlet, power, specialty and strip centers. Typical leases run five years with two, five-year options. The company currently operates 65 locations throughout the existing markets.

 

Beaners Gourmet Coffee (517-482-8145) is planning to open approximately 17 stores, both throughout the MI area and the southeast. The company currently operates 27 stores throughout central MI.

 

Denny’s Corp. (864-597-8000) is planning to open one or two company sites this year, as well as 20 franchised units. The company currently operates approximately 1,600 of its signature eateries nationwide. The company owns and operates more than a third of its restaurants; the rest are franchised or operate under licensing agreements.

 

Raymour & Flanigan (315-453-2590) is planning to open furniture stores throughout the New York, NY area. Included in the expansion are showrooms in Middletown and Carle Place, NY and Ocean Township and Iselin, NJ. These openings are slated for later this year. During the coming three to five years, the company plans on opening an additional 20 to 25 showrooms. Typical stores average between 35,000 sq.ft. and 70,000 sq.ft.

 

Famous Dave’s of America, Inc. (952-294-1300) is planning to open two company-owned and 20 franchised locations this year, as well as two to four company-owned restaurants and 20 to 30 franchised locations in 2006. The company currently operates and franchises approximately 100 barbecue restaurants throughout more than 20 states, primarily in IL, MN and WI. The eateries serve St. Louis-style ribs, Georgia chopped pork and Texas brisket. Most restaurants resemble 1930s-era roadhouse shacks, although others follow the decor of a hunting lodge or a Chicago-style blues club featuring live music. Rib Crib Corp. (918-712-7427) is planning to open nine locations this year, and is looking to have 100 units operating by 2009. Rib Crib currently operates and franchises more than 30 full-service barbecue restaurants in a half dozen states. The company has opened a dual-concept unit that shares space with a KFC, experimenting with a more fast-casual format.

 

Publix Super Markets, Inc. (863-688-1188) is planning to open a 28,000 sq.ft. Publix supermarket at the intersection of State Road A1A and 16th Road in Flagler, FL. The company currently operates 849 stores, including 626 throughout FL. The company also operates locations throughout AL, GA, SC and TN. Publix makes some of its own bakery, deli, and dairy goods and many stores offer flowers, housewares, pharmacies and banks. The company also operates four Pix convenience stores throughout FL.

 

Buffalo Wild Wings, Inc. (952-593-9943) is planning to open 14 locations this year. The company is focusing on 6,000 sq.ft. sites, which is approximately 400 sq.ft. larger than the typical location. The extra space accommodates a larger back of the house and more flexible seating such as moveable tables and chairs. The company currently operates more than 220 Buffalo Wild Wings Grill & Bar restaurants throughout 30 states specialize in serving Buffalo-style chicken wings, as well as appetizers, burgers, salads and desserts. The company owns and operates more than 75 of the restaurants, while the rest are operated by franchisees.

 

Shoe Carnival, Inc. (812-867-4034) is planning to open between eight and 10 stores this year. Five stores are slated to open during the first quarter. The company is looking to completely remodel 10 stores to the latest store design and partially remodel an additional 30 stores, adding a significant portion of the latest design elements. The company currently operates 259 locations throughout the Midwest, South and Southeast.

 

Sears, Roebuck and Co. (847-286-2500) is planning to open a Sears department store at the Avalon Mall in St. John’s, Newfoundland during the fall. The current Sears store, located in the Village Mall, nearby, will remain open in the near term. The new store will be 143,000 sq.ft. and reflect the company’s multi-year renovation plan, including its prototype design that the company says provides a “modern shopping environment designed with the needs of its customers in mind.” The upper level of the 128,000 sq.ft. Sears Village Mall store will be converted to a Sears Home store format, offering an assortment of furniture, mattresses and major appliances, as well as a stainless steel gallery showcasing stainless steel major appliances. The lower level of the store will offer family fashions, footwear, cosmetics and more. The company currently operates more than 870 U.S. mall-based stores, and also has about 1,100 other locations nationwide. The company operates more than 800 independently owned Sears dealer stores in small towns and about 245 hardware stores, such as Orchard Supply Hardware and Sears Hardware.

 

Rock Bottom Restaurants, Inc. (303-664-4000) is planning to open four or five locations this year. Rock Bottom Restaurants operates approximately 90 eateries and brewpubs throughout the western and midwestern U.S., including about 55 Old Chicago restaurants that feature deep-dish, Chicago-style pizza and more than 110 different brands of beer. Its nearly 35 brew pub locations, including the Rock Bottom Restaurant & Brewery, the ChopHouse & Brewery and the Walnut Brewery, which offers patrons fish, pasta and meat, plus a variety of microbrews produced on the premises. The growing company also owns two Sing Sing dueling piano bars.

 

Green Mill Restaurants, Inc. (651-203-3100) is planning to open between three and six restaurants this year. The company currently operates approximately 37 locations throughout the Midwest, with most locations in MN. Known for its pizza, Green Mill has expanded its menu to include sandwiches, burgers, salads, and steaks.

 

Black Bear Diner (530-926-4669) is planning to open between six and eight restaurants this year throughout AZ, CA, NV and OR, as well as in SC and WA. While the company usually selects sites in rural towns, it has opened units in Las Vegas and Reno, NV during the past four years. For 2006 and beyond, Black Bear Diner will open no more than 12 units a year. The company currently operates 23 locations throughout the western U.S.

 

Firehouse Restaurant Group, Inc. (904-886-8300) is planning to open 100 to 110 locations this year, with a focus on Atlanta, GA and Palm Beach/Broward County, FL. Delhaize America, Inc. (704-633-8250) is planning to open 50 supermarkets throughout the U.S., including 11 relocated stores. This year, the company announced that all Kash n’ Karry supermarkets in Naples, Fort Myers, Sarasota and Bradenton will be relaunched under the Sweetbay Supermarket brand. In addition to the remodeling of 181 stores, 12 Food Lion stores will be converted this year into Harvey’s stores. Also, all Victory stores will be converted to the Hannaford banner, bringing the total expected Hannaford stores to 146 at the end of the year. The company currently operates approximately 1,200 Food Lion stores, mainly throughout the Carolinas and VA, but also eight other states along the eastern seaboard.

 

Ross Stores, Inc. (925-965-4400) is planning to open a 28,600 sq.ft. Ross Dress For Less store at Cordova Mall in Pensacola, FL. Overall, the company is looking to open five stores throughout FL this year. The company currently operates 639 locations throughout 26 states. The company sells mostly closeout merchandise, including men’s, women’s and children’s clothing at prices well below those of department and specialty stores. The stores also sell small furnishings, educational toys and games, luggage and gourmet foods in select stores.

 

Chick-fil-A, Inc. (404-765-8038) is planning to open more than 77 Chick-fil-A locations this year, including 60 freestanding restaurants. The company currently operates approximately 1,198 locations throughout 38 states and Washington, DC. Chick-fil-A serves chicken entrees, sandwiches, and salads, along with waffle fries and fresh-squeezed lemonade. The chain is made up primarily of mall-based stores, but it also includes freestanding units that offer drive-thru service as well as dine-in seating. Chick-fil-A also licenses its concept to foodservice operators for high-traffic areas, such as schools and airports.

 

Build-A-Bear Workshop, Inc. (314-423-8000) is planning to open 25 to 30 Build-A-Bear locations this year. The company currently operates 162 locations throughout the U.S. and Canada and hopes to grow to 350 stores. The company also is planning to open Friends 2B Made stores, which allow customers to make their own dolls. The company also is planning to open a Build-A-Bear store in South Korea during May.

 

CVS Corp. (401-765-1500) is planning to open a 13,000 sq.ft. store at Brooklyn Center located at the intersection of Bass Lake Road and Brooklyn Boulevard in Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN. The company currently has two other locations under construction, including one in New Hope, MN and on Lakeland Avenue North in Robbinsdale, MN. CVS currently operates approximately 5,375 stores throughout 36 states and Washington, DC.
