Who's Opening & Where Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse (949-222-2223) is planning to open a Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse and Wine Bar restaurant near the Jordan Creek’s lake area in Des Moines, IA. The company currently operates locations nationwide, including restaurants in Birmingham, AL; Chandler, DC Ranch and Scottsdale, AZ; El Segundo, La Jolla, Newport Beach, San Diego and Rancho Mirage, CA; Tampa and Winter Park, FL; Baltimore, MD; Boston, MA; Edgewater, NJ; Las Vegas and Summerlin, NV; Tulsa, OK; Nashville, TN; Austin and Houston, TX; Salt Lake City, UT and Richmond and Tyson’s Corner, VA.
Wal*Mart Stores, Inc. (479-273-4000) is planning to open a 99,000 sq.ft. Wal*Mart store in Benson, AZ. The company currently operates more than 4,800 stores, including approximately 1,475 Wal*Mart stores, 1,750 Wal*Mart Supercenter locations and 540 Sam’s Club stores. Nearly 75% of the company’s stores are located throughout the U.S., but Wal*Mart is expanding internationally; it is the top retailer in Canada and Mexico. It owns nearly 38% of Japanese supermarket chain SEIYU. Wal*Mart also has operations in Asia, Europe and South America.
OfficeMax, Inc. (630-773-5000) is planning to open as many as 40 stores nationwide this year. The company sells office and computer supplies, paper and office furniture through its nearly 1,000 OfficeMax superstores.
Forever 21, Inc. (213-741-5100) opened a For Love 21 store at the Glendale Galleria, a center located in Glendale, CA. This was the first store for the new concept, which sells accessories against a French parlour backdrop, featuring ornate and vintage architecture. Customers will shop to French Blues music and a mix of eclectic jazz. For Love 21 introduces several accessory collections with tribal-inspired accents, dangling style jewelry, western clutches and bags, 70s-style hats, belts and sunglasses. The company currently operates more than 200 mainly mall-based U.S. stores, many in CA, plus one in Canada. Forever 21 offers cheap and chic fashions for women and junior girls. Its trendy clothes are priced 2% lower than its competitors. Most of the retailer’s apparel is private label and made in southern CA. Forever 21 has also opened a series of new concept stores called Fashion XXI that offers men’s and women’s fashions, as well as lingerie, footwear, cosmetic items and other accessories.
H.H. Gregg Appliances, Inc. (317-848-8710) is planning to open five H.H. Gregg stores during fiscal 2006. These include four stores in NC and SC and one relocated store in the Bowling Green, KY market. The company anticipates opening three of the stores throughout the Charlotte, NC market during the first quarter of fiscal 2006. During the 2006 fiscal year, the company is looking to open approximately eight to 10 new or relocated stores. The company currently sells its products through more than 60 stores in the Midwest, including AL, GA, IN, KY, OH and TN. H.H. Gregg’s offerings include consumer electronics, as well as small appliances, large appliances and accessories.
Stein Mart, Inc. (904-346-1500) is planning to open 15 Stein Mart stores during fiscal 2005, including one relocation. Stein Mart offers upscale fashion at off-price discounts. The company operates approximately 260 stores throughout 30 states and sells women’s, men’s and children’s brand-name clothing at discount prices. Fashions range from casual to formal wear. Its stores also sell jewelry, bed and bath linens and gift items.
Logan’s Roadhouse, Inc. (615-885-9056) is planning to open a Logan’s Roadhouse restaurant on Centre Drive in Beavercreek, OH. Area retail includes Fairfield Commons. Opening is slated for March 2006. Logan’s Roadhouse operates and franchises approximately 135 casual-dining steakhouses throughout 18 states, mostly in the Southeast and southern Midwest. Designed to resemble roadhouses from the 1930s to the 1950s, the restaurants’ exteriors are highlighted with rough-hewn cedar siding, corrugated metal, and neon. Inside, patrons listen to Wurlitzer jukeboxes and eat peanuts. About 115 locations are company-owned, while the rest are run by franchisees. Logan’s is a subsidiary of CBRL Group, which also owns the Cracker Barrel Old Country Store restaurant chain.
Red Robin Gourmet Burgers, Inc. (303-846-6000) is planning to open eight company-owned restaurants during the first quarter. The company currently operates a chain of more than 250 casual-dining restaurants throughout 27 states and Canada that specialize in hamburgers. The company owns about half of its locations and franchises the rest.
Shoe Carnival, Inc. (812-867-4034) is planning to open between eight and 10 stores this year. Five stores are slated to open during the first quarter. The company is looking to completely remodel 10 stores to the latest store design and partially remodel an additional 30 stores, adding a significant portion of the latest design elements. The company currently operates 259 locations throughout the Midwest, South and Southeast.
Family Dollar Stores, Inc. (704-847-6961) is planning to open approximately 500 to 560 stores this year. The company currently operates approximately 5,600 stores throughout 44 states and Washington, DC. Family Dollar emphasizes neighborhood stores near its low- and middle-income customers in rural and urban areas. Most merchandise is less than $10.
Buffalo Wild Wings, Inc. (952-593-9943) is planning to open 14 locations this year. The company is focusing on 6,000 sq.ft. sites, which is approximately 400 sq.ft. larger than the typical location. The extra space accommodates a larger back of the house and more flexible seating such as moveable tables and chairs. The company currently operates more than 220 Buffalo Wild Wings Grill & Bar restaurants throughout 30 states, and specialize in serving Buffalo-style chicken wings, as well as appetizers, burgers, salads and desserts. The company owns and operates more than 75 of the restaurants, while the rest are operated by franchisees.
Gap Inc. (650-952-4400) is planning to open a Banana Republic store at the Shoppes at Grand Prairie, a center located at the intersection of Route 6 and U.S. Route 150 in Peoria, IL. Cotenants include Bergner’s, Linens ‘N Things, Borders, Old Navy and Dick’s Sporting Goods. Opening is slated for the summer. Gap currently operates approximately 3,000 stores worldwide. Other chains include Gap, GapBody, GapKids and babyGap.
Sears, Roebuck and Co. (847-286-2500) is planning to open Sears Essentials stores next month. The openings will come from the 56 stores Sears bought from Kmart Holding Corp. and Wal*Mart Stores, Inc. Most of the 25 Sears Essentials stores are located in the southern or Sun Belt states. The company currently operates more than 870 U.S. mall-based stores and has approximately 1,100 other locations nationwide. Sears also operates more than 790 independently owned Sears dealer stores in small towns and about 245 hardware stores, such as Orchard Supply Hardware and Sears Hardware. The stores sell apparel, tools and appliances, as well as providing home services under the Sears HomeCentral brand.
Bass Pro Shops, Inc. (417-873-5000) is planning to open a 100,000 sq.ft. Bass Pro Shops store at the Dolphin Mall, a 1.4 million sq.ft. mall located in Miami, FL. Opening is slated for late 2006. The showcase store will cater to its south FL customers with an expansive saltwater fishing section and a 25,000 sq.ft. boatroom featuring Tracker, Nitro, Mako, SeaCraft, Sun Tracker and Tahoe boats built by Tracker Marine Group. Shoppers also will find an in-depth selection of equipment for fresh and saltwater fishing, hiking, backpacking, wildlife viewing, camping, outdoor cooking and more. A gift and nature center will offer a variety of outdoor-related items, from lamps and dishes to bird feeders and cabin-style furniture. The store will offer a southern FL design, large indoor aquariums and water features stocked with native fish species, and an extensive collection of museum-quality fish and wildlife mounts. The company currently operates approximately 25 Outdoor World stores throughout 17 states. |
