Tijuana Flats Burrito Co., Inc. (407-339-2222) is planning to open 24 Tijuana Flats restaurants throughout FL during the coming five years. Tijuana Flats Burrito Co. operates and franchises about 25 fast-casual restaurants throughout FL and GA. The restaurants specialize in Tex-Mex cuisine and sells a line of hot sauces. The company intends to expand significantly by the end of 2006, adding more than 40 stores in the FL market, as well as in AL, IN and KY.

 

Cosi, Inc. (847-597-8800) is planning to open 11 company-owned restaurants this year. The restaurants are typically one part coffee house, one part sandwich shop, and one part cocktail bar. Lowe’s Cos., Inc. (704-758-1000) is planning to open two Lowe’s Home Improvement Warehouse stores in Amherst, NY. Both stores are slated to open this summer, one at Boulevard Consume Square off Niagara Falls Boulevard and the other at Eastview Plaza located at the intersection of Maple and Transit Roads. The two Amherst stores are among the chain’s first three locations in the area. Lowe’s Cos. operates nearly 1,100 superstores throughout 48 states and has announced plans to expand into Canada in 2007. The company’s stores sell more than 40,000 products for do-it-yourselfers and professionals for home improvement and repair projects, such as gardening products, home fashion items, lumber, millwork, plumbing and electrical supplies, and tools, as well as appliances and furniture.

 

Qdoba Restaurant Corp. (303-629-5000) is planning to expand its restaurants throughout IA. The company is opening a Qdoba Mexican Grill in Dubuque, Des Moines and other areas throughout the state. The center is currently anchored by Bergner’s, Linens ‘N Things, Border’s, Dick’s Sporting Goods and Old Navy. The stores sell sportswear, outerwear, and footwear for men, women, and children through more than 400 retail and outlet stores in Canada, Germany, Japan, and the U.S.

 

Buffalo Wild Wings, Inc. (952-593-9943) is planning to open 14 locations this year. The company is focusing on 6,000 sq.ft. sites, which is approximately 400 sq.ft. larger than the typical location. The extra space accommodates a larger back of the house and more flexible seating such as moveable tables and chairs. The company currently operates more than 220 Buffalo Wild Wings Grill & Bar restaurants throughout 30 states specialize in serving Buffalo-style chicken wings, as well as appetizers, burgers, salads and desserts. The company owns and operates more than 75 of the restaurants, while the rest are operated by franchisees.

IKEA (610-834-0180) is planning to open a store at a former shipyard location in the Red Hook section of Brooklyn, NY. This will be the first retail store to be opened by IKEA in New York, NY. The company recently received approvals to build a three-story, 346,000 sq.ft. mega store on the property. It will be IKEA’s largest store in America. The company also is planning to open a store in Canton Township, MI. Opening is slated for summer 2006. The store will be the company’s 28th in the U.S. and fourth in the upper Midwest, joining stores in Schaumberg, IL; Bloomington, MN and Bolingbrook, IL. The Canton store will feature four model homes, 50 room settings, a supervised children’s play area, as well as a 250-seat restaurant serving Swedish specialties and American dishes. IKEA currently operates 210 stores throughout 32 countries.

The company also is opening a supermarket at Rockville Congressional Plaza and the Annapolis Harbour Center, a space currently occupied by Whole Foods Market. The Rockville location, which is slated to open during the second quarter of 2008, will be 29,000 sq.ft. The Annapolis location will be 25,000 sq.ft. and is slated to open during the third quarter of 2007. The company also is planning to open a flagship store at the intersection of 8th Avenue and 14th Street in New York, NY. Opening is slated for the fall. Sutton Place Group operates about a dozen specialty food markets and the Blue Point Grill and High Noon restaurant chains throughout CT, MD, NY, VA and Washington, DC.
