The Macerich Co. (310-394-6000) promoted Stephen L. Spector from senior vice president and associate general counsel to senior vice president and general counsel. Spector, who is based out of the company’s Santa Monica, CA corporate office, has over 20 years of experience in the legal profession. Prior to joining Macerich, he worked for over five years at Los Angeles, CA-based law firms specializing in real estate, corporate and securities law matters.

 

NewMark Merrill Cos. (818-710-6100) hired Jeremy Just as managing director for the Landmark Retail Group, a new subsidiary of the Newmark Merrill Cos. The subsidiary will be responsible for identifying tenants who have targeted southern CA as a growth market and providing development support for that growth. As managing director, Just will be responsible for acquisition, development and leasing of targeted real estate sites for new development throughout southern CA, building retail tenant relationships and assisting in the day-to-day operations of the company. Most recently, Just was an acquisition manager for Evergreen Devco, where he was instrumental in all facets of more than a dozen new retail developments. He also is a member of the California Bar Association, as well as a licensed California Real Estate Broker.

Marathon Asset Management, LLC (212-381-4406) announced that David C. Friedman has joined the company as senior director and chief legal counsel. Friedman was previously senior counsel at Proskauer Rose, LLP. Friedman will support structuring transactions, asset management, fund administration and business development in addition to advising on general legal matters. During his 12 years with Proskauer, Friedman worked on a diverse range of real estate transactions, as well as a wide variety of financings, acquisitions, sales and joint ventures relating to office buildings, hotels, shopping centers, condominium conversions and multi-family housing projects.

 

The Hampshire Cos. (973-292-9595) named  Deborah Haller asset manager for the firm’s Hampshire Partners Fund VI, a $235 million institutional real estate discretionary investment fund.  Haller will be responsible for all aspects of asset management, including facility and property management, operations, leasing and financial reporting for a number of the fund’s properties, which include industrial, office and retail properties in the mid-Atlantic states. Prior to joining Hampshire, Haller served as senior vice president at Triton Pacific Capital, LLC in Los Angeles, CA.

 

Crosland, Inc. (704-561-5272) announced that Timothy B. Sittema has joined the company as senior vice president in its retail division. Continuing the company’s expansion throughout the southeastern U.S., Sittema will focus on the Nashville/middle TN region. Crosland is currently co-developing the largest open-air retail center in middle TN and opened a Nashville, TN office in May with the acquisition of Armistead Barkley. In addition to TN, Sittema will pursue development opportunities in Greenville, SC, where the Shops at Greenridge recently had its grand opening, as well as the coastal region in cities such as Charleston, Myrtle Beach and Hilton Head, SC. A 20-year industry veteran, Sittema most recently served as president for Sittema Properties, Inc. in CO. He specialized in retail development projects in the Rocky Mountain states, including an assemblage projects for large-format retailers such as Lowe’s Home Improvement and several other anchor tenants. Previously, he was a managing partner for Sittema-Bullock Realty Partners and marketing principal for Trammell Crow Co.

 

Retail Brokers, Inc. (480-894-6363) appointed Donald Sheckell as senior vice president and designated broker and Jessica Maloof as director of public relations and marketing. Sheckell was promoted from his previous position as director of leasing. In addition to being designated broker for Retail Brokers, Inc., he will be responsible for overseeing day-to-day brokerage operations, including leasing, tenant representation and investment sales. Sheckell has been with the company since 2003. Prior to joining RBI, Sheckell was a commercial real estate agent with Insignia/ESG, Inc. and with Trammell Crow Co. Maloof will be responsible for public and media relations, marketing and advertising for RBI. In the past, Maloof has performed public relations and marketing duties for various residential and commercial real estate companies, as well as nationally recognized  companies such as Del Webb Corp., Hewlett-Packard, Subway Restaurants, CIGNA Healthcare and Boys & Girls Clubs.

 

Staubach Retail (800-944-0012) is expanding its consulting and managed services group with the hiring of Brad Thomas as vice president of business development. Thomas is based at the company’s headquarters in Dallas, TX and is responsible for identifying and helping to acquire high-value, high-quality clients for Staubach Retail’s consulting and managed services offerings. The Consulting and Managed Services group offers strategic, financial and operational advice regarding retail and real estate strategy and are tailored to address a retailer’s specific growth or trouble issues.
