Who's Opening & Where Gregg Appliances, Inc. (317-848-8710) is planning to open nine H.H. Gregg stores during fiscal 2006. These include seven stores in the NC and SC markets, one relocated store in Columbus, OH and one relocated store in the Bowling Green, KY market. The company opened two stores in the Charlotte, NC market in April and anticipates opening an additional store in the Charlotte market during the first quarter of fiscal 2006. The appliance and electronics retailer sells its products through about 60 stores in the Southeast, mostly in GA. The company’s offerings include consumer electronics, as well as small appliances, large appliances and accessories.
Triarc Cos., Inc. (212-451-3000) is planning to open 28 Arby’s restaurants throughout AZ, CA, CT, FL, IA, IL, NC, TX, UT, VA and WI. Arby’s fast-food restaurants operates approximately 3,400 locations throughout the U.S. and five other countries. Arby’s is best known for its roast beef sandwiches and curly fries; it also serves salads and breakfast items. In addition, Triarc owns the T.J. Cinnamons and Pasta Connection brands, which are typically operated as part of a multi-concept location with Arby’s. Triarc owns about 230 Arby’s locations and franchises the rest.
OfficeMax, Inc. (630-773-5000) is planning to open 40 OfficeMax stores nationwide this year. The company currently operates more than 930 superstores throughout the U.S., Mexico, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The stores offer about 8,000 name-brand and OfficeMax-branded products, including paper, pens, forms and organizers, as well as office furniture and a wide range of technology products. OfficeMax also provides printing and document services through its CopyMax store-within-a-store.
Wild Oats Markets, Inc. (303-440-5220) is planning to open a 32,000 sq.ft. Wild Oats Natural Marketplace store at Bridgeport Village, a center located in Tualatin, OR. The company currently operates approximately 110 full-service stores throughout 24 states and British Columbia, Canada. Its stores provide natural, organic, and traditional grocery items, as well as environmentally-friendly household products. The stores operate under the Capers Community Market, Henry’s Farmers Markets, Sun Harvest Farms and the Wild Oats Natural Marketplace names. It also has bakeries, coffee and juice bars, and massage therapists in most stores.
Peet’s Coffee & Tea, Inc. (510-594-2100) is planning to open 20 to 25 Peet’s Coffee & Tea locations this year. The company currently operates approximately 90 coffee shops throughout seven states and offers more than 30 types of coffee, including more than 20 blends. Its teas run the spectrum from India black to herbal blends. The stores also offer items such as biscotti, mugs and brewing equipment. Most of the company’s outlets are located throughout CA, while others can be found in CO, IL, MA, OR, TX and WA. The company also sells its coffee through supermarkets, including Safeway and Whole Foods.
Villa Enterprises Management (973-285-4800) is planning to open a Villa Pizza at the Borgata Casino in Atlantic City, NJ. Construction is expected to begin during early 2006. The company currently operates 300 stores throughout 38 states and six countries. In addition to Village and Cozzoli’s Pizza, the company operates Casa Java and the Everything Yogurt Brands, which include Green Leaf’s, Bananas, Everything Yogurt & Salad Café and South Philly Steaks & Fries.
Panera Bread Co. (314-633-7100) is planning to open a Panera Bread restaurant at the Huntington Mall in Barboursville, WV. Opening is slated for Spring 2006. The company currently operates more than 740 bakery/cafes throughout approximately 35 states. Its locations, which operate under the Panera and Saint Louis Bread Company banners, offer made-to-order sandwiches built using a variety of artisan breads, including Asiago cheese bread, focaccia and its classic sourdough bread. Its menu also features soups, salads and gourmet coffees. In addition, Panera sells its bread, bagels, and pastries to go. Approximately 70% of its locations are operated by franchisees.
Roy Rogers Franchise Co., LLC (301-695-8563) is planning to open as many as 55 Roy Rogers restaurants during the coming five years, largely through franchises. The company is currently looking to expand around the Baltimore, MD and Washington, DC areas. Roy Rogers Franchise Company currently operates and franchises more than 55 Roy Rogers quick-service restaurant locations throughout nine eastern states. Most locations are freestanding buildings.
IHOP Corp. (818-240-6055) is planning to open IHOP restaurants throughout Charlotte, NC and Nashville, TN through franchisees. IHOP operates the International House of Pancakes restaurant chain with nearly 2,000 owned and franchised restaurants, which are open 24 hours a day, are best known for their pancakes, waffles and French toast. They also offer standard family fare for lunch and dinner. Its restaurants are generally freestanding locations, though the distinctive A-frame design is slowly fading from the landscape. More than 95% of IHOP’s locations are operated by franchisees and area licensees.
Bed Bath & Beyond, Inc. (908-688-0888) is planning to open Bed Bath & Beyond stores at the former Clarence Mall, located at the intersection of Main Street and Transit Road in Buffalo, NY and at the McKinley Mall in Blasdell, NY. The company currently operates approximately 660 stores throughout 44 states and Puerto Rico. The stores offer domestics, such as bed linens, bathroom and kitchen items, and home furnishings, such as cookware and cutlery, small household appliances, picture frames and more. The company looks to open about 70 stores per year.
LA Fitness (949-255-7403) is planning to open a 45,000 sq.ft. fitness facility at Canyon Crossings, a 90-acre mixed-use center located at the intersection of Interstate 215 and State Highway 60 in Riverside, CA. The fitness center will include a 25-yard lap pool, heated spa, sauna, aerobics room, full circuit training, free weights, over 60 pieces of cardio equipment, a kid’s club and juice bar. Last year, the company opened a location on Mission Village Drive, near Alessandro Boulevard and Mission Grove Parkway. The company currently owns and operates sports clubs in AZ, CA, CT, FL, GA, NJ, NY, OR, PA and WA. By the end of the year, the company expects to have over 140 clubs in operation with planned expansion into new and existing markets.
Nordstrom, Inc. (206-628-2111) is planning to open a Nordstrom store at Aventura Mall, a 2.3 million sq.ft. mall located in Miami, FL. Nordstrom sells clothes, shoes and accessories through about 95 Nordstrom stores and about 50 Nordstrom Rack stores throughout 25 states. It also operates a clearance store, a freestanding shoe store, and about 35 Façonnable boutiques stores, primarily in Europe, and it sells goods online and through catalogs. |
