La-Z-Boy, Inc. (734-242-1444) is planning to open 17 stores, as well as converting 24 existing stores to the “New Generation” format. During 2006, the company is looking to open 45 to 50 New Generation stores. La-Z-Boy sells its recliners, chairs, sofas, tables and modular seating units through more than 60 company-owned stores, almost 335 La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries, and nearly 370 in-store galleries at furniture dealers, department stores, and other outlets. La-Z-Boy also makes office and wood furniture and supplies furniture for the hospitality and health care industries. Its brands include La-Z-Boy, Bauhaus USA, Hammary, Lea, and Kincaid.

 

Polo Ralph Lauren Corp. (212-318-7000) is planning to open 20 stores nationwide and internationally during the fiscal year. The company also continues to roll out its “Rugby” store, a new concept store with a full lifestyle collection targeting 18 to 25-year-old men and women, by opening stores in Chapel Hill, NC and Charlottesville, VA. The company currently operates approximately 275 retail and outlet stores throughout the U.S. and licenses more than 100 others worldwide.

 

Brinker International, Inc. (972-980-9917) is planning to open a Romano’s Macaroni Grill and Chili’s at The Loop, a 440,000 sq.ft. center located at the intersection of John Young and Osceola Parkways in Kissimmee, FL. Cotenants include Ben & Jerry’s, Chipotle and Panera Bread. Chili’s operates more than 975 locations. In addition to Chili’s and Romano Macaroni Grill, Brinker operates the Mexican-flavored On The Border Mexican Grill & Cantina. Its smaller, emerging chains include Maggiano’s Little Italy, Rockfish Seafood Grill and Corner Bakery Cafe.

 

Granite City Food & Brewery Ltd. (952-525-2070) is planning to open a restaurant in Olathe, KS. Overall, the company is looking to open four more restaurants this year, six in 2006 and eight in 2007. The company currently operates eight Granite City Food & Brewery casual dining restaurants featuring made-from-scratch food and handcrafted beers. Its menu offers traditional and regional foods. Locations include Sioux Falls, SD; Fargo, ND; West Des Moines, IA; Cedar Rapids, IA; Davenport, IA; Lincoln, NE and Minneapolis, MN.

 

Gander Mountain Co. (651-325-4300) is planning to open 11 Gander Mountain stores during the summer and the fall. The company has already opened eight stores this year. Most of the new stores are 60,000 sq.ft. to 65,000 sq.ft. plus outside selling space and all will include ATV sales and service and an in-store professional gunsmith, a full-service archery shop with shooting lanes and a Gander Lodge meeting space available to local organizations free of charge. The company currently operates approximately 85 outdoor sporting goods stores focused on hunting, camping and fishing throughout 14 mainly Midwestern states. In addition to outdoor equipment and related accessories, the stores also sell apparel and footwear, as well as all terrain vehicles and gear.

 

Stein Mart, Inc. (904-346-1500) is planning to open eight to nine Stein Mart stores. The company currently operates approximately 260 stores throughout about 30 states and sells women’s, men’s and children’s brand-name clothing at discount prices. Fashions range from casual to formal wear. Its stores also sell jewelry, bed and bath linens and gift items.

 

Steve & Barry’s University Sportswear (516-829-4730) is planning to open between 50 and 100 stores this year. The company is planning to open a 27,000 sq.ft. store at the Manhattan Mall located on 34th Street in New York, NY. The stores offer collegiate sportswear, jeans, khakis, sweaters, jackets, pajamas, footwear, accessories, hats and T-shirts at low prices. The company is continuing its national expansion with growth opportunities in enclosed malls, lifestyle centers, power centers and outlets. The company currently operates 64 stores throughout 20 states and occupies spaces of 25,000 sq.ft. to 150,000 sq.ft.

 

Famous Dave’s of America, Inc. (952-294-1300) is planning to open a 6,000 sq.ft. Famous Dave’s BBQ restaurant on Route 347 in Smithtown, NY. Famous Dave’s of America operates and franchises approximately 110 barbecue restaurants throughout more than 20 states, primarily IL, MN and WI. The eateries serve St. Louis-style ribs, Georgia chopped pork and Texas brisket. Most restaurants resemble 1930s-era roadhouse shacks, although others follow the decor of a hunting lodge or a Chicago-style blues club featuring live music.

 

Wal*Mart Stores, Inc. (479-273-4000) is planning to open a Wal*Mart Supercenter and Sam’s Club at the intersection of 19th Avenue and Bell Road in Phoenix, AZ. The stores will comprise approximately 420,000 sq.ft. of retail space. The company currently operates more than 5,700 stores, including some 1,350 Wal*Mart stores, nearly 2,000 Wal*Mart Supercenter locations in the U.S. and the United Kingdom, and 550 Sam’s Club stores. Nearly 75% of its stores are in the U.S., but Wal*Mart is expanding internationally; it is the top retailer in Canada and Mexico. It owns 42% of Japanese supermarket chain SEIYU.

 

Stater Bros. Holdings, Inc. (909-783-5000) opened a 44,000 sq.ft. Stater Bros. supermarket at Sierra Crossroads located on Sierra Avenue in Fontana, CA. The company currently operates approximately 160 Stater Bros. Markets.

 

Sport Clips, Inc. (972-821-9883) is planning to open as many as 200 Sport Clips stores nationwide during the coming 18 months. The hair salons occupy spaces of 1,000 sq.ft. to 1,400 sq.ft. The company currently operates 270 stores nationwide.

 

Cabela’s, Inc. (308-254-5505) is planning to open a Cabela’s store on a land area of 28.6 acres located in Glendale, AZ. Plans call for the 160,000 sq.ft. superstore to open by late 2006 or early 2007. Cabela’s is currently operating 11 retail locations. The company also is planning to open stores this year in Buda, TX; Lehi, UT; Rogers, MN; Gonzales, LA; Wheat Ridge, CO; Reno, NV and East Rutherford, NJ. The stores use as much as 250,000 sq.ft. and include such features as waterfalls, mountain replicas, aquariums and banquet and meeting facilities.

 

Buffalo Wild Wings, Inc. (952-593-9943) is planning to open 14 locations this year. The company is focusing on 6,000 sq.ft. sites, which is approximately 400 sq.ft. larger than the typical location. The extra space accommodates a larger back of the house and more flexible seating such as moveable tables and chairs. The company currently operates more than 220 Buffalo Wild Wings Grill & Bar restaurants throughout 30 states specialize in serving Buffalo-style chicken wings, as well as appetizers, burgers, salads and desserts. The company owns and operates more than 75 of the restaurants, while the rest are operated by franchisees.
