CiCi Enterprises Inc. (972-745-4200) is planning to open a CiCi’s Pizza restaurant at North Atherton Place, a 261,891 sq.ft. center located at the intersection of North Atherton Street and Vairo Boulevard in State College, PA. The company currently operates 480 stores throughout 26 states. The center is cotenanted by Wal*Mart Supercenter, Dollar Tree, EB Games, National Cash Advance, GNC, Barbara’s Hallmark, Simply Tan, Beyond Looks, Chesapeake Bagel, College Buffet, C.C. Peppers, Radio Shack, Plato’s Closet, Omega Bank, McDonald’s and Eat N Park. Franchisees operate 90% of CiCi’s restaurants.

 

Federated Department Stores, Inc. (513-579-7000) is planning to open Macy’s stores in Wheaton, MD and Simi Valley, CA this year. The company currently operates more than 450 stores throughout 34 states, Guam and Puerto Rico under the following tradenames: Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s, Bon-Macy’s, Burdine’s-Macy’s, Goldsmith’s-Macy’s, Lazarus-Macy’s and Rich’s-Macy’s. Its stores sell men’s, women’s, and children’s apparel and accessories, cosmetics, and home furnishings, among other things.

 

Meijer, Inc. (616-453-6711) is planning to open six Meijer’s stores throughout MI this year. The stores are slated to open in White Lake Township, Southfield, Gaines Township, Holland Township, Marysville and Ionia. Most of the stores are slated to open by this summer. The company currently operates 163 combination supermarket and general merchandise stores throughout IL, IN, KY, MI and OH. The stores occupy spaces of approximately 200,000 sq.ft. to 250,000 sq.ft. and stock about 120,000 items, including Meijer private-label products. Customers can choose from about 40 departments, including apparel, electronics, hardware and toys. Most stores also sell gasoline, offer banking services and have multiple in-store restaurants.

 

Goody’s Family Clothing, Inc. (865-966-2000) is planning to open Goody’s Family Clothing stores in Cleburne, TX and in Gadsden, AL this year. The company also is looking to open locations in Madison, IN and Mount Vernon and Pekin, IL. The company currently operates 357 stores throughout AL, AR, FL, GA, IA, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MO, MS, NC, OH, OK, SC, TN, TX, VA and WV. The stores sell clothes, shoes, accessories and gift items. 

 

Chipotle Mexican Grill, Inc. (303-595-4000) is planning to open a Chipotle restaurant in St. Petersburg, FL during the summer. In the next couple years, the company expects to be operating as many as 10 locations throughout the Tampa Bay/St. Petersburg area. The company operates more than 375 quick-service Mexican restaurants throughout approximately 20 states.

 

U.S. Factory Outlets, Inc. (212-563-3650) is planning to open a 39,000 sq.ft. U.S. Factory Outlets store at the Westfield Shoppingtown Northwest, a 1.68 million sq.ft. center located in St. Ann, MO. Opening is slated for June. The company currently operates stores in DE, ID, IN, MA, MA, MO, MS, ND, NJ, OH, PA, TN, TX and VA.

 

Target Corp. (612-304-6073) is planning to open a 124,717 sq.ft. Target store at Blakeney, a 270-acre multi-use community located at the intersection of Rea and Ardrey-Kell Roads in south Charlotte, NC. Opening is slated for March 2006. The company currently operates approximately 1,300 Target and SuperTarget stores throughout 47 states.  

 

The Men’s Wearhouse, Inc. (713-592-7200) is planning to open a new concept called Bride & Joy. The 3,000 sq.ft. stores will open up adjacent and connected to Men’s Wearhouse stores nationwide. The first two stores opened at Marina Square in San Leandro, CA and at El Camino Promenade in San Mateo, CA last November. The company is planning to open approximately 100 units during the coming years. The stores have a comprehensive assortment of 100% branded bridal merchandise, including gowns appropriate for mother and bride, bridesmaids and flower girls. The company currently operates approximately 700 stores throughout 44 states and Canada. Its primary operation is Men’s Wearhouse, which has about 500 stores, mostly located in strip centers. The chain sells tailored suits priced 20% to 30% less than competitors, as well as shoes, formal wear and casual clothes. The company’s K&G Men’s Co. subsidiary operates about 60 superstores and its Suit Warehouse chain operates five stores and sells clothes for even less.

 

Darden Restaurants, Inc. (407-245-4000) is planning to open 30 to 40 Smokey Bones BBQ restaurants this year. The company also is looking to open two Seasons 52 locations in Orlando and Fort Lauderdale, FL this year. The company currently operates more than 1,300 locations nationwide and in Canada, including about 650 Red Lobster locations and 540 Olive Garden Italian restaurants. Darden also operates a small chain of tropical-themed Bahama Breeze restaurants that offer Caribbean-inspired food.

 

La-Z-Boy, Inc. (734-242-1444) is planning to open approximately 50 “New Generation” stores during fiscal 2006, with over 20 of those being new stores and the remainder being store remodels or relocations. The company currently operates 328 freestanding La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries stores and 334 La-Z-Boy In-Store Galleries locations. La-Z-Boy also makes business and wood furniture, including desks, cabinets and bedroom items and supplies furniture for the hospitality and health care industries. Its more than a dozen brands include La-Z-Boy, Bauhaus USA, Hammary, Lea, and Kincaid.

 

Borders Group, Inc. (734-477-1100) is planning to open a new stationery and gift store called Paperchase inside of Borders Books and Music superstores and eventually as freestanding stores in malls nationwide. Borders Group, the parent company of Borders superstores and Waldenbooks, acquired majority ownership in British-owned Paperchase last July. The company is now looking to open “shop-in-shop” Paperchase stores inside all 462 Borders superstores during the coming two years. The company also will be developing freestanding stores in malls and possibly smaller kiosk-type venues, but those stores are not in the immediate planning stages. The first Paperchase stores will begin opening in northern CA, with 10 to open initially. By the end of 2006, the company hopes to have Paperchase stores in all of its superstores, progressing from the West Coast to the East Coast. Borders Group operates stores throughout all 50 states and in the U.K., Australia, New Zealand, Puerto Rico and Singapore. Its more than 1,200 retail stores include about 480 Borders superstores, about 700 mall-based Waldenbooks stores, and more than 35 UK-based Books etc. shops.
