Who's Opening & Where Deb Shops, Inc. (215-676-6000) is planning to open a DEB shop in Genesee Valley, MI next month. The 7,500 sq.ft. store also will sell teen sportswear, jewelry and coats. The company sells moderately priced accessories, coats, dresses, lingerie, shoes and sportswear through more than 330 stores across the U.S., most of them in malls in the Midwest and the Mid-Atlantic states. The DEB chain makes up almost all of the company’s stores. Other chains include DEB PLUS, CSO outlet stores and Tops ‘N Bottoms, which sells apparel for young men and women. DEB PLUS and Tops ‘N Bottoms operate a handful of freestanding stores, but most are located within departments in DEB stores.
Goody’s Family Clothing, Inc. (865-966-2000) is planning to open a 50,000 sq.ft. Goody’s Family Clothing store at Indian Mound Mall in Heath, OH. The space was formerly occupied by Lazarus. The company currently operates 12 stores throughout OH. Overall, the company operates nearly 360 small department stores throughout 20 states, mainly in strip centers in the southeastern and midwestern U.S. The stores sell clothes, shoes, accessories and gift items for the family.
Caribou Coffee Co., Inc. (763-592-2200) is planning to open a 2,041 sq.ft. Caribou Coffee store on North LaSalle Street in Chicago, IL. Opening is slated for the summer. The company currently operates 306 stores throughout 12 states and Washington, DC. The shops, designed to resemble ski lodges and Alaskan cabins, offer a variety of coffee blends as well as specialty coffee drinks. The company also sells whole bean coffee and related brewing supplies.
Sears, Roebuck and Co. (847-286-2500) is planning to open Sears Essentials stores next month. The openings will come from the 56 stores Sears acquired from Kmart Holding Corp. and Wal*Mart Stores, Inc. Most of the 25 Sears Essentials stores are located in the southern or Sun Belt states. The company currently operates more than 870 U.S. mall-based stores and has approximately 1,100 other locations nationwide. Sears also operates more than 790 independently owned Sears dealer stores in small towns and about 245 hardware stores, such as Orchard Supply Hardware and Sears Hardware. The stores sell apparel, tools and appliances, as well as providing home services under the Sears HomeCentral brand.
San Francisco Oven (440-717-9450) is planning to open a restaurant in Davenport, IA on Utica Ridge Road. Opening is slated for the Spring. The company currently operates six locations, including five throughout OH and one in TX, and will soon open a restaurant in Richmond, VA. The company also is looking to open locations in Ormond Beach and Orlando, FL; Shreveport, LA; Tyler, TX; Solon, Medina and Hudson, OH and Myrtle Beach and Charleston, SC.
The TJX Companies, Inc. (508-390-1000) is planning to open a 25,000 sq.ft. A.J. Wright store at Northwest Fashion Square on Brown Deer Road in Milwaukee, WI later this year. The TJX Companies, Inc. owns T.J. Maxx and Marshalls. T.J. Maxx sells brand-name family apparel, accessories, women’s shoes, domestics, giftware and jewelry at discount prices at nearly 770 stores nationwide. Marshalls offers a full line of shoes and a broader selection of menswear through more than 690 stores. Its HomeGoods chain of about 200 stores nationwide focuses entirely on home furnishings, while its more than 120 A.J. Wright clothing stores aim for lower-income shoppers located throughout the Northeast and Midwest.
Gap Inc. (650-952-4400) is planning to open GapBody locations this year. Gap Body specializes in bath and body accessories, sleepwear and under garments for both men and women. The company is opening stores at the following locations: at the Arboretum in Charlotte, NC; Friendly Shopping Center in Greensboro, NC; Mayfair Shopping Center in Commack, NY; South Coast at Crystal Court in Costa Mesa, CA; Girard Avenue in La Jolla, CA; Shops at Somerset in Glastonbury, CT; downtown Naperville, IL; Ridgewood, NJ; Village of Rochester Mall in Rochester, MN; Southbury Green in Southbury, CT and Utica Square in Tulsa, OK. Gap currently operates more than 3,000 stores worldwide. Other chains include GapKids and babyGap.
CyberZONE, Inc. (619-284-9663) is planning to open 15 CyberBrew Net Cafes throughout SC. The company recently signed a letter of intent to franchise the 15 locations. The company recently opened a location at the Chula Vista Mall in Chula Vista, CA and has two company-owned stores under construction in Escondido and Carlsbad, CA.
Lowe’s Cos., Inc. (704-758-1000) is planning to open a Lowe’s Home Improvement store at the intersection of Paterson Plank Road and Route 17 in East Rutherford, NJ. Opening is slated for the fourth quarter. The store will have 116,000 sq.ft. of retail sales space, as well as an additional 19,000 sq.ft. for a garden center. The company currently operates more than 1,050 superstores throughout more than 45 states.
Moe’s Southwest Grill, LLC (404-442-8933) is planning to open as many as 10 Moe’s Southwest Grill restaurants throughout the San Francisco Bay area of CA. The company currently operates a chain of more than 150 quick-service eateries throughout approximately 20 states that offer standard Tex-Mex favorites, including burritos, quesadillas and fajitas. Nearly all of the company’s restaurants are operated by franchisees.
Kohl’s Corp. (262-703-7000) is planning to open approximately 95 Kohl’s stores during fiscal 2005, with as many as 33 stores opening during the first quarter. The company operates nearly 600 discount department stores throughout 38 states.
Big 5 Sporting Goods Corp. (310-536-0611) is planning to open between 16 and 20 stores during fiscal 2005. The company currently operates approximately 309 sporting goods stores throughout AZ, CA and WA, as well as seven other western states. The company sells brand-name equipment and clothing for indoor and outdoor activities, including products for camping, hunting, fishing, tennis, golf, snowboarding and inline skating. The stores average approximately 11,000 sq.ft.
Whole Foods Market, Inc. (512-477-4455) is planning to open Whole Foods Market stores in Lake Oswego, OR; Seattle, WA; Novato and Pasadena, CA; Scottsdale, AZ and Annapolis and Rockville, MD. The company currently operates more than 160 stores throughout 28 states; Washington, DC; and in Canada and the United Kingdom. The stores emphasize perishable products, which account for about two-thirds of sales. Whole Foods offers more than 1,200 items in six lines of private-label products such as the premium Whole Foods and a line of organic products for children called Whole Kids.
