Who's Opening & Where The Fresh Market, Inc. (336-272-1338) is planning to open a 27,895 sq.ft. The Fresh Market at Bay Landing Shopping Center located at the intersection of U.S. Highway 41 and West Terry Street in Greensboro, NC. The space was formerly occupied by Winn-Dixie Marketplace.
Sport Chalet, Inc. (818-949-5300) is planning to open Sport Chalet stores in Chandler, Phoenix and Scottsdale, AZ. The sporting goods retailer operates approximately 36 stores throughout AZ and CA. The stores are known for carrying specialty products, such as mountain-climbing and scuba gear. Sport Chalet has traditionally specialized in gear for cold-weather sports, such as skiing, but its stores also sell brandname shoes, clothes and equipment for many other activities. Shoppers at Sport Chalet can sign up for scuba training and join dive clubs associated with the stores.
U.S. Factory Outlets, Inc. (212-563-3650) is planning to open a 39,000 sq.ft. U.S. Factory Outlets store at Westfield Shoppingtown Northwest, a 1.68 million sq.ft. center located in St. Ann, MO. Opening is slated for June.
Cabela’s, Inc. (308-254-5505) is planning to open a Cabela’s store on a land area of 32 acres at the intersection of Interstate 10 and Louisiana Highway in Gonzales, LA by early next year. The 175,000 sq.ft. store could open as early as next spring. The company currently operates 10 locations. Cabela’s also is planning to open a 230,000 sq.ft. store in Fort Worth, TX; a 185,000 sq.ft. store in Buda, TX and a 150,000 sq.ft. store in Lehi, UT. Also planned are locations in Rogers, MN; Wheat Ridge, CO and in East Rutherford, NJ. The stores include such features as waterfalls, mountain replicas, aquariums and banquet and meeting facilities. Cabela’s sells footwear, clothing, and gear for fishing, hunting, camping and other outdoor activities.
Peet’s Coffee & Tea, Inc. (510-594-2100) is planning to open between 20 to 25 stores during this fiscal year. The company currently operates approximately 80 coffee shops throughout seven states. Peet’s offers more than 30 types of coffee, including more than 20 blends. The stores also offer items such as biscotti, mugs and brewing equipment. Most of the company’s outlets are located in CA, while others can be found in CO, IL, MA, OR, TX and WA.
Ruddick Corp. (704-372-5404) is planning to open 10 Harris Teeter stores, as well as remodeling 11 stores, during the remainder of this year. The company currently operates nearly 140 supermarkets throughout six southeastern states, mostly in NC.

Lowe’s Cos., Inc. also is planning to open a 116,000 sq.ft. store at the intersection of U.S. 67 Bypass and Texas 174 in Cleburne, TX. The store also will feature a 31,000 sq.ft. garden center. The company currently operates nearly 1,090 superstores throughout 48 states.
Red Robin Gourmet Burgers, Inc. (303-846-6000) is planning to open eight company-owned restaurants during the first quarter. The company currently operates a chain of more than 250 casual-dining restaurants throughout 27 states and Canada that specialize in hamburgers. The company owns about half of its locations and franchises the rest.
Walgreen Co. (847-940-2500) is planning to open a Walgreens pharmacy at the intersection of Indiana 37 and Pleasant Street in Noblesville, IN. Opening is slated for the spring. The company currently operates approximately 4,600 stores throughout 44 states and Puerto Rico.
Saks, Inc. (205-940-4000) is planning to open a Parisian specialty department store in Rogers, AR. The 100,000 sq.ft. store will be the anchor in Pleasant Crossing, a center slated to open during spring of next year. The center is located at the intersection of Interstate 540 and Pleasant Grove Road. The company also is planning to open a Parisian store in Pleasant Ridge Town Center located in Little Rock, AR. Saks, Inc. currently operates its Saks Department Store Group, which consists of 238 department stores under the following tradenames: Parisian, Proffitt’s, McRae’s, Younkers, Herberger’s, Carson Pirie Scott, Bergner’s, Boston Store and Club Libby Lu. The company also operates Saks Fifth Avenue Enterprises, which consists of 58 Saks Fifth Avenue stores and 52 Off 5th stores.

Most of the 25 Sears Essentials stores are located in the southern or Sun Belt states. The company currently operates more than 870 U.S. mall-based stores and has approximately 1,100 other locations nationwide. Sears also operates more than 790 independently owned Sears dealer stores in small towns and about 245 hardware stores, such as Orchard Supply Hardware and Sears Hardware. The stores sell apparel, tools and appliances, as well as providing home services under the Sears HomeCentral brand.
Yard House Restaurants, LLC (949-727-0959) is planning to open restaurants in Brea, CA; Palm Beach Gardens, FL and Phoenix, AZ. The upscale eatery is known for its American fusion fare, state-of-the-art audio and visual systems, classic rock music, the world’s largest draft beer system and original artwork. Each location also features a signature oval bar with dangling glass yards, transparent keg room and up to 250 taps, depending on the location. The company currently operates nine locations in three major markets, including southern CA; Denver, CO and Chicago, IL.

Waffle House, Inc. (770-729-5700) is planning to open a Waffle House restaurant at the intersection of Old Shell Road and University Boulevard in Birmingham, AL. The space was formerly occupied by Exxon and is located near Mellow Mushroom. Construction of the restaurant should start by the end of the year. The company currently operates approximately 1,400 locations nationwide. The company operates about 675 locations and franchises the rest. The restaurants are popular for their breakfast fare, including pancakes, eggs, grits and waffles. In addition to breakfast, the menu features T-bone steaks, cheeseburgers and other sandwiches. Waffle House units are typically freestanding buildings designed to resemble 1950s-style diners and are open 24 hours a day.
Linens ‘n Things, Inc. (973-778-1300) is planning to open approximately 50 Linens ‘n Things stores throughout the U.S. and Canada during fiscal 2005. The company currently operates approximately 500 superstores throughout 45 states and five Canadian provinces.
Staples, Inc. (508-253-5000) is planning to open as many as 20 Staples stores throughout Chicago. Kohl’s Corp. (262-703-7000) is planning to open as many as 95 stores during fiscal 2005, with approximately 33 stores opening during the first quarter. The company expects to open the remaining 62 stores during the third quarter of the fiscal year. The company currently operates nearly 640 discount department stores throughout 40 states. The stores offer moderately priced name-brand and private-label apparel, shoes, accessories and housewares.
Payless ShoeSource, Inc. (785-233-5171) is planning to open approximately 30 stores and close approximately 70. The company also intends to relocate about 70 stores. iParty Corp. (781-329-3952) is planning to open as many as seven additional stores this year. Most of these stores will open throughout New England, where 41 of the company’s 45 stores are located. The company also is planning to open locations in FL. Most of the stores are slated to open in time for the Halloween season. The company sells more than 20,000 party-related items, including balloons, invitations and greeting cards, gag gifts, and Hawaiian luau items from retail stores in FL and New England.
