Who's Opening & Where


Caché, Inc. (212-575-3200) is planning to open a Cache store at the Shoppes at Grand Prairie, a center located at the intersection of Illinois Route 6 and U.S. Route 150 in Peoria, IL. Opening is slated for the late spring. The upscale women’s apparel retailer owns and operates nearly 300 specialty stores in shopping malls throughout 43 U.S. states and in Puerto Rico under the Cache and Lillie Rubin banners. Sportswear, including casual wear, collections and separates, accounts for the majority of store sales. Dresses, usually for special occasions, range from $125 to $450. Overall, the company plans to add 40 stores this year and 50 in 2006.

 

La-Z-Boy, Inc. (734-242-1444) is planning to open, relocate or remodel up to 40 stores this year. Overall, the company expects to be operating more than 400 La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries stores throughout North America by 2007. La-Z-Boy currently operates more than 50 company-owned stores, almost 330 La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries, and nearly 370 in-store galleries at furniture dealers, department stores and other outlets. La-Z-Boy also makes office and wood furniture and supplies furniture for the hospitality and health care industries.

 

AnnTaylor Stores Corp. (212-541-3300) is planning to open an Ann Taylor Loft store at the Cherry Hill Mall in Cherry Hill, NJ. The store will be located in a space formerly occupied by Casual Corner and its sister stores, Petite Sophisticate and August Max. Ann Taylor and Ann Taylor Loft shops offer apparel, shoes and accessories. The company currently operates approximately 740 stores throughout the U.S. and Puerto Rico. Most are located in malls and upscale retail centers. Ann Taylor Loft stores offer their own label of mid-priced apparel, while Ann Taylor Factory Stores offer clearance merchandise.

 

Publix Super Markets, Inc. (863-688-1188) is planning to reopen two Publix stores in FL under the new tradename, Publix Sabor, which caters to a Hispanic clientele. The prototype stores in Hialeah and Kissimmee will offer expanded Hispanic food and grocery items and will be staffed with bilingual associates. The company currently operates 850 stores, with most locations in FL. However, the company also operates supermarkets throughout AL, GA, SC and TN. The company also operates five Pix convenience stores in FL.

 

Food Concepts International (806-785-8686) is planning to open eight Abuelo’s Mexican Food Embassy restaurants by the end of the year. The restaurants are slated to open in Maumee, Warrensville Heights and Beavercreek, OH; Carmel, IN; Myrtle Beach, SC; Evansville, IN; Sterling Heights, MI and Crestview Hills, KY. The company currently operates locations in Abilene, Amarillo, Austin, Hurst, Lewisville, Lubbock, Midland, East Plano and West Plano, TX; Oklahoma City and Tulsa, OK; Peoria, IL; Scottsdale, AZ; Rogers, AR; Wichita, KS; Cincinnati, OH; Bartlett, TN and Kansas City, MO.

 

PetsMart, Inc. (623-580-6100) is planning to open 100 stores this year, including 35 stores planned for markets in the Northeast and in CA. The company also is planning to expand its PetsHotel chain that provides daycare and long-term boarding for dogs and cats. The company operates more than 640 stores throughout the U.S. and Canada. Many PetsMart stores offer in-store grooming and obedience training; veterinary services are available in some 350 shops through pet hospital operator, Medical Management International.

 

Pier 1 Imports, Inc. (817-252-8000) is planning to open 60 Pier 1 Imports stores and two Pier 1 Kids stores in fiscal 2006. The company sells about 4,000 items, which are imported from more than 40 countries, through approximately 1,100 Pier 1 Imports stores in the U.S. and Canada and through its The Pier chain, which operates 29 locations in the United Kingdom.

 

Pathmark Stores, Inc. (732-499-3000) is planning to open two stores this year, as well as renovating eight locations. Both stores are slated to open during the second half of the year. The company currently operates 142 supermarkets, all under the Pathmark banner throughout  DE, NJ, NY and PA. Many of its stores are Pathmark Super Centers, which offer an expanded selection of general merchandise and foods, nearly all have pharmacies, and more than half have in-store banks.

 

Petco Animal Supplies Stores, Inc. (858-453-7845) is planning to open 90 Petco stores this year. The company currently operates more than 655 locations throughout more than 40 states and Washington, D.C.

 

Zaxby’s Franchising, Inc. (706-353-8107) is planning to open a Zaxby’s restaurant on Mundy Mill Road in Oakwood, GA. Opening is slated for this month. The restaurant, which will be the company’s fourth in Hall County, GA, will be built in Zaxby’s newest design, which has vintage memorabilia and signage. The company currently operates 70 restaurants in the Atlanta, GA area. Overall, the company operates and franchises more than 200 fast-casual chicken restaurants, 160 of which are owned by franchisees.

 

IKEA (610-834-0180) is planning to open a store in Canton Township, MI. Opening is slated for summer 2006. The store will be the company’s 28th in the U.S. and fourth in the upper Midwest, joining stores in Schaumberg, IL; Bloomington, MN and Bolingbrook, IL. The Canton store will feature four model homes, 50 room settings, a supervised children’s play area, as well as a 250-seat restaurant serving Swedish specialties and American dishes. IKEA currently operates 210 stores throughout 32 countries. Other stores slated to open in the U.S. this year include locations in Atlanta, GA; Brooklyn, NY; Dublin and West Sacramento, CA; Frisco, TX; and Somerville and Stoughton, MA.

 

Office Depot, Inc. (561-438-4800) is planning to open 40 Office Depot stores this year. Office Depot sells office supplies at more than 1,000 company-owned and licensed stores worldwide, with approximately 900 locations in the U.S. In addition to typical office supplies, its stores offer computer hardware and software, furniture, art and school supplies, and printing and copying services.

 

The Cheesecake Factory, Inc. (818-871-3000) is planning to open a Cheesecake Factory at Downtown at the Gardens, a center located in Palm Beach, FL. Opening is slated for November. The company currently operates more than 90 casual-dining restaurants, offering about 200 menu items ranging from sandwiches and salads to steaks and seafood. In addition to its flagship concept, the company operates five Grand Lux Cafes, licenses three bakery cafes, and sells its cheesecakes to supermarkets and foodservice operations.

 

Weis Markets, Inc. (570-286-4571) is planning to open eight superstores this year, including five replacement locations, the expansion of 11 stores and the remodeling of 11 others. The company currently operates approximately 155 supermarkets, mostly in PA but also in MD and four other states. In addition to the Weis Markets banner, the company also operates as Mr. Z’s Food Mart, King’s Supermarkets, Save-A-Lot and Scot’s Lo-Cost. Weis Markets also owns 30-plus SuperPetz pet supply stores in 11 southern and midwestern states.
