Who's Opening & Where Laundromart (800-826-1012) is looking to expand throughout FL. The laundromats occupy spaces of 2,500 sq.ft. to 6,500 sq.ft. in freestanding locations, inline spaces and endcaps. Typical leases run 10 years with three, five-year options. Demographics include a trade-area population earning up to $50,000 as the median household income. The sites are fully air-conditioned and offer state-of-the-art equipment and technology, a large selection of washers and dryers, dry cleaning drop-off service, wash and fold drop-off service, laundry supplies, color TV sets throughout the sites, snacks, beverages, supplies and video games, a kids’ play area and a “smart card.”
BJ’s Restaurants, Inc. (714-848-3747) is planning to open as many as eight restaurants during fiscal 2005. The company currently operates 37 casual-dining restaurants under the BJ’s Restaurant and Brewery, BJ’s Restaurants and Brewhouse or BJ’s Pizza & Grill brandnames. The company currently operates 26 restaurants throughout CA; five throughout TX; three in OR and one each in AZ, CO and NV. The company also has a licensing interest in a BJ’s restaurant in Lahaina, Maui, HI. The casual-dining eateries offer Chicago-style pizza, salad, sandwiches, pasta, and the company’s own hand-crafted beers. The company’s 10 microbreweries supply the entire chain.
Steve & Barry’s University Sportswear (516-941-1088) is planning to open 11 locations by the end of the month. This includes five stores throughout TX, two in MN and other single locations in CA, MO, NY and WV. In TX, Steve & Barry’s is opening stores at the Mall of Abilene in Abilene; Post Oak Mall in College Station; Parkdale Mall in Beaumont; Brazos Mall in Lake Jackson; and Alameda Mall in Houston. Stores in MN include a location and Brookdale Center in Brooklyn Center and Burnsville Center in Burnsville. The remaining stores include Western Hills Mall in Fairfield, AL; Westfield West Covina in West Covina, CA; Westfield West Park in Cape Girardeau, MO; Medley Center in Rochester, NY and Morgantown Mall in Morgantown, WV. Steve & Barry’s Sportswear is a national specialty retailer of licensed and non-licensed apparel for men, women and children, and operates 79 locations throughout 26 states. The company also is looking to open an additional 50 stores throughout 2006.
Tijuana Flats Burrito Co., Inc. (407-339-2222) is planning to open 24 Tijuana Flats restaurants throughout FL during the coming five years. Tijuana Flats Burrito Co. operates and franchises about 25 fast-casual restaurants throughout FL and GA. The restaurants specialize in Tex-Mex cuisine and sell a line of hot sauces. The center is currently tenanted by Giant Foods, Super Target, Lowe’s Home Improvement and Pier 1 Imports. The company sells discounted brand-name footwear for men and women through more than 170 stores in 32 states. About a half dozen stores carry footwear for kids. In addition to more than 2,000 styles of dress, casual, and athletic shoes, the stores offer handbags, hosiery, and accessories. The company plans to open approximately 30 stores every year through 2009. DSW also operates more than 200 leased shoe departments for unaffiliated retailers.
Aaron Rents, Inc. (404-231-0011) is planning to open 13 locations throughout Canada during the coming several years. Aaron Rents offers home and office furniture throughout the U.S., Puerto Rico and Canada through more than 1,124 Aaron’s Sales and Lease Ownership for Less and Aaron’s Rent-to-Rent stores. The company operates throughout 46 states. Its stores also offer consumer electronics and household appliances. The company also manufactures furniture, bedding and accessories at 10 facilities throughout four states.
The Steak n Shake Co. (317-633-4100) is planning to open between 18 and 24 restaurants this year and at least 26 company-owned restaurants during fiscal 2006. The company currently operates and franchises nearly 430 Steak n Shake restaurants throughout approximately 20 states in the Midwest and Southeast. The full-service chain’s menu features its hallmark steakburgers and milkshakes, as well as fries, chicken sandwiches and chili. About 60 units are operated by franchisees.
Weis Markets, Inc. (570-286-4571) is planning to open eight superstores this year, including five replacement locations, the expansion of 11 stores and the remodeling of 11 others. The company currently operates approximately 155 supermarkets, mostly in PA but also in MD and four other states. In addition to the Weis Markets banner, the company also operates as Mr. Z’s Food Mart, King’s Supermarkets, Save-A-Lot and Scot’s Lo-Cost. The company currently operates stores throughout DE, MD and PA and recently opened two locations in Pottsville and Belle Vernon, PA, as well as locations in Clearfield, State College and Oil City, PA. The chain also is expanding departments such as food and toys to increase its appeal to women. Currently, stores average 39,000 sq.ft. and range from 28,000 sq.ft. to 51,000 sq.ft. For expansion, the company is focusing on sites of at least 46,000 sq.ft.
Sally Beauty Co., Inc. (940-297-4608) is looking to open stores from 1,200 sq.ft. to 1,800 sq.ft. nationwide. The sites must be located in centers of at least 100,000 sq.ft. and in areas with an average daily traffic count of 30,000 vehicles. The stores offer more than 5,000 professional salon brands for hair, nails and skin, as well as fashion accessories. The company currently operates more than 3,000 stores throughout the U.S., including Puerto Rico, the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, Mexico and Canada.
Famous Dave’s of America, Inc. (952-294-1300) is planning to open a 6,000 sq.ft. Famous Dave’s BBQ restaurant on Route 347 in Smithtown, NY. Famous Dave’s of America operates and franchises approximately 110 barbecue restaurants throughout more than 20 states, primarily IL, MN and WI. The eateries serve St. Louis-style ribs, Georgia chopped pork and Texas brisket. Most restaurants resemble 1930s-era roadhouse shacks.
Starbucks Corp. (206-447-1575) is planning to increase its number of Starbucks stores in South Korea to 365 during the coming five years. The company currently operates 125 stores in the country. Starbucks operates and licenses more than 8,500 coffee shops throughout more than 30 countries. The shops offer coffee drinks and food items, as well as beans, coffee accessories, teas and CDs. Starbucks operates more than 5,200 of its shops in five countries, mostly in the U.S., while licensees operate more than 2,800 units, primarily in shopping centers and airports. The company also owns and franchises the Seattle’s Best Coffee and Torrefazione Italia chains in the U.S., with more than 100 shops.
Chick-fil-A, Inc. (404-765-8038) is planning to open more than 77 Chick-fil-A locations this year, including 60 freestanding restaurants. The company currently operates approximately 1,200 restaurants and serves chicken entrees, sandwiches, and salads, along with waffle fries and fresh-squeezed lemonade. The chain is made up primarily of mall-based stores, but it also includes freestanding units that offer drive-thru service as well as dine-in seating. Chick-fil-A also licenses its concept to food service operators for high-traffic areas, such as schools and airports. |
