Outback Steakhouse, Inc. (813-282-1225) is planning to open a Roy’s restaurant at Bayfront Shoppes located in Naples, FL. It will be the second Roy’s location in southwest FL. The company opened at The Promenade in Bonita Springs, FL during 2000. A third location is slated to open this summer in Sarasota, FL. Roy’s operates 31 locations worldwide. Outback Steakhouse operates approximately 1,200 locations throughout the U.S. and 20 other countries. Its 881-unit signature concept offers steak, chicken, and seafood served in an Australian-themed atmosphere. Outback also operates 200 Carrabba’s Italian Grill restaurants, which offer pasta, chicken, and seafood dishes. Other concepts include Bonefish Grill, Cheeseburger In Paradise, Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse, Lee Roy Selmon’s and Roy’s. The company owns about 86% of its locations.

 

Famous Dave’s of America, Inc. (952-294-1300) is planning to open 25 to 30 franchise-operated Famous Dave’s of America restaurants and up to three company-owned restaurants. The company had also signed development agreements to open an additional 196 franchise-operated locations. Famous Dave’s of America operates and franchises approximately 128 barbecue restaurants throughout more than 33 states, primarily IL, MN and WI. The eateries serve St. Louis-style ribs, Georgia chopped pork, and Texas brisket. Most restaurants resemble 1930s-era roadhouse shacks, although others follow the decor of a hunting lodge or a Chicago-style blues club featuring live music. The company also distributes barbecue sauce, seasonings, and prepared meats through grocery stores and other retail outlets. Famous Dave’s owns about 40% of its restaurants and franchises the rest.

 

Ratner Cos. (407-260-9373) is planning to open Hair Cuttery locations throughout FL and GA. The hair salon chain is looking to open as many as 100 locations during the coming 18 months. The hair salons occupy spaces of 1,000 sq.ft. to 1,400 sq.ft. in strip and power centers and regional malls. The company currently operates 1,000 locations throughout DE, FL, GA, IL, IN, MD, NC, NJ, NY, PA, SC, VA, WI, WV and Washington, DC. Competition is cited as Great Clips, Supercuts and Master Cuts. Preferred cotenants include Publix, Kroger, Target and Wal*Mart. Preferred demographics include a population of 20,000 within 2.5 miles earning $40,000 as the average household income. Specific improvements are required.

 

Captain D’s, Inc. (615-391-5461) is planning to double its growth for fiscal 2006 to 40 units, including the chain’s first international operation. Captain D’s is a leading quick-service seafood chain with more than 500 locations throughout approximately two dozen states, primarily in the South, as well as overseas. Its menu features fried and broiled fish, shrimp, and chicken, as well as French fries, hush puppies, and corn on the cob. The company operates more than 300 of its restaurants, while the rest are owned by franchisees.

 

bebe stores, Inc. (415-715-3900) is planning to open as many as 35 stores, expanding and renovating 16 existing stores and closing three stores. The number of planned new stores includes 20 bebe stores, 12 BEBE SPORT stores and three bebe outlet stores. bebe designs and sells contemporary women’s clothes and accessories under the bebe, BEBE SPORT and bebe O brands through approximately 225 stores in the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico. The company targets hip, body-conscious 21-to-35-year-olds. The company licenses its name for items such as eyewear and swimwear. Most of bebe’s products are developed in-house and produced by contract manufacturers.

 

Jos. A. Bank Clothiers, Inc. (410-239-2700) is planning to open a Jos. A. Bank store in Newport News, VA during March, as well as a location in Chesapeake, VA later this year or in early 2007. Jos. A. Bank Clothiers specializes in tailored clothing for the professional man, including suits, sport coats, dress shirts and pants, but also sells casual wear. It also debuted the David Leadbetter line of golf wear. The company sells its Jos. A. Bank clothes and a few shoe brands through its catalogs, Web site, and about 300 company-owned or franchised stores throughout 37 states. The company plans to be operating 500 locations by next year.

 

La-Z-Boy, Inc. (734-242-1444) is planning to open 45 to 50 format stores this year, with approximately 20 of those being new stores and the remainder being relocations or remodels. La-Z-Boy sells its recliners, plus chairs, sofas, tables and modular seating units through more than 60 company-owned stores, almost 275 independent La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries, and nearly 335 in-store galleries at furniture dealers, department stores and other outlets. La-Z-Boy also makes wood furniture such as desks, cabinets, and bedroom items and licenses its name for use on furniture for the health care industry. Its brands include La-Z-Boy, Bauhaus USA, Hammary, Lea, and Kincaid.

 

Ruth’s Chris Steak House, Inc. (407-236-0556) is planning to open a 7,500 sq.ft. Ruth’s Chris steakhouse in Columbia, SC. Opening is slated for Spring 2007. The company also is looking to open restaurants in Charleston and Myrtle Beach, SC by the end of this year or early next year. The company is the nation’s largest chain of high-end steak houses in terms of number of restaurants. Its 86 company-owned and franchised restaurants are located in about 30 states, as well as Canada, Mexico, Hong Kong, Puerto Rico and Taiwan. The menu features steak dinners, fresh seafood, and an extensive wine list.

 

Culver Franchising System, Inc. (608-643-7980) is planning to open a Culver’s Restaurant at the intersection of United Drive and Illinois 157 in Belleville, IL. Culver Franchising System operates a chain of more than 300 Culver’s quick-service restaurants, popular for its signature ButterBurgers (hamburgers served on a grilled buttered bun) and frozen custard. The menu also includes chicken, fish, and pork sandwiches, salads, and dinner items such as shrimp and Norwegian Cod. The chain is in more than 15 states, mostly in the upper Midwest.

 

Walgreen Co. (847-914-2500) is planning to open a 14,820 sq.ft. Walgreens store at a space formerly occupied by Long John Silvers in Newport, TN. The company also is planning to open a 14,820 sq.ft. Walgreens store at the intersection of Highway 169 and Main Street in Elk River, MN. The freestanding store would include a drive-thru pharmacy. The company currently operates approximately 5,100 stores throughout 45 states and Puerto Rico, and has three mail order facilities. Prescription drugs account for nearly 64% of sales; the rest comes from general merchandise, over-the-counter medications, cosmetics and groceries. Walgreen builds rather than buys stores. More than two-thirds of its stores offer drive-thru pharmacies, and almost all offer one-hour photo processing.

 

Hannaford Bros. Co. (207-883-2911) is planning to open a Hannaford Bros. supermarket in Lowell, MA. It would be the company’s second store in Lowell and its 26th in MA. The company also is looking to open a 36,000 sq.ft. Hannaford Bros. supermarket in Buxton, ME. The store would feature a pharmacy, a natural and organic food department, a full-service butcher shop, produce and seafood departments, a bakery and a deli. Hannaford Bros. operates approximately 147 stores and food-and-drug combination stores, including 49 of them in ME and the rest in MA, NH, NY and VT. These stores operate under the Hannaford Supermarkets and Hannaford Supermarket and Pharmacy names.

 

Wingstop Restaurants, Inc. (972-686-6500) is planning to open approximately 22 Wingstop restaurants throughout Phoenix, AZ. The locations will include a mix of 11 franchised stores and 11 corporate stores. The expansion also will include the largest Wingstop restaurant, a 2,400 sq.ft. location at the Spectrum Mall on West Bethany Home Road. Wingstop Restaurants operates and franchises more than 450 quick-service eateries throughout approximately 26 states that specialize in Buffalo-style chicken wings. Wingstop is owned by Houston-based Hartz Restaurants, which operates the Hartz Krispy Chicken ‘N’ Rolls chain.

 

Tumbleweed Restaurants, Inc. (502-893-0323) is planning to open approximately 21 Tumbleweed Southwest Grills locations throughout NC. The company is currently planning to open five restaurants throughout the Raleigh-Durham area. The company operates Southwestern-style restaurants throughout eight states and internationally. With more than 63 restaurants operating in the U.S. and others opening internationally, the company is concentrating on accelerating its growth over a period of 18 months. Tumbleweed Restaurants feature a dual-concept strategy, still offering Tex-Mex cuisine as well as a large menu of Mesquite-grilled steaks, chops, chicken and seafood cooked over real Mesquite logs on a specially designed grill.

 

Sony Electronics, Inc. (858-942-2400) is planning to open Sony Style stores in Edison, NJ; Seattle, WA; Indianapolis, IN and in Portland, OR. With the four 6,000 sq.ft. stores, Sony will have added 15 Sony Style stores in high-end fashion malls across the U.S. during the fiscal year. The stores are a showcase for the company’s most innovative electronics and entertainment offerings and provide customers with hands-on experience with Sony’s products through multiple demonstration areas. The stores showcase all of Sony’s entertainment merchandise, including the latest CDs from Sony BMG Music, DVD movies from Sony Pictures Entertainment, digital music downloads from Sony CONNECT, and PlayStation 2 consoles and video games. The stores also have a concierge located at the entrance of each store, personal in-home delivery services and custom installation support. The company currently operates 32 Sony Style stores, including large destination stores on Madison Avenue in New York, NY and at the Metreon in San Francisco, CA.

 

Port City Java, Inc. (910-796-6646) is planning to open as many as 100 Port City Java locations this year. In addition to hot, chilled, and flavored coffees Port Java offers teas, sodas, waters, espresso, cappuccino, iced drinks, frappes, freezes, shakes, fresh-squeezed lemonade and Italian sodas. Port City Java operates approximately 50 locations, which are located in the U.S., Asia, South America, and Europe.

 

Christopher & Banks Corp. (763-551-5000) is planning to open approximately 85 to 100 stores in 2007. The openings will include 35 to 40 Christopher & Banks stores; 40 to 45 C.J. Banks stores and up to 15 Acorn stores. Approximately 35 stores are planned to open in the second and third quarters. Christopher & Banks sells moderately priced private-label women’s fashions throughout approximately 705 stores in 45 states. Sportswear accounts for two-thirds of sales; the rest comes from sweaters and accessories. Its C.J. Banks stores offer specialty apparel in sizes 14W and up. The chains cater to working women 40 to 60 of age. In 2004 the company purchased the upscale women’s fashion 21-store Acorn chain from womenswear retailer Gilmore Brothers Inc.

 

Benihana, Inc. (305-593-0770) is planning to open RA Sushi restaurants throughout CA, FL, IL, NV and TX. Benihana owns and operates approximately 73 Benihana and Benihana Grill locations throughout approximately 20 states and has some 20 franchised restaurants in a dozen other countries. In addition, the company operates more than 15 other restaurants doing business or under development as Haru or Doraku.
