Who's Opening & Where Walgreen Co. (847-914-2500) is planning to open a 14,820 sq.ft. Walgreens store at the intersection of McMullen Booth Road and State Road 590 in Safety Harbor, FL. Walgreen operates approximately 5,100 stores throughout 45 states and Puerto Rico. Prescription drugs account for nearly 64% of sales, while the rest comes from general merchandise, over-the-counter medications, cosmetics and groceries. Walgreen builds rather than buys stores, so it can pick prime locations. More than two-thirds of its stores offer drive-thru pharmacies, and almost all offer one-hour photo processing.
Chipotle Mexican Grill, Inc. (303-595-4000) is planning to open approximately 80 to 90 Chipotle Mexican Grill restaurants this year. Chipotle Mexican Grill operates approximately 500 quick-service Mexican eateries throughout 21 states. Customers can build a burrito or taco from a lineup that includes chicken, steak, barbecue or free-range pork, as well as beans, rice, guacamole, and various other veggies and salsas. It also serves chips and salsa, beer, and margaritas.
O’Reilly Automotive, Inc. (417-862-6708) is planning to open a 6,400 sq.ft. O’Reilly Auto Parts store on South Main Street in Atmore, AL. Overall, the company is looking to open approximately 160 locations this year. O’Reilly Automotive sells aftermarket parts, automotive tools, professional service equipment, and accessories through more than 1,431 O’Reilly auto parts stores throughout 25 states. It sells new and remanufactured auto parts, maintenance items, accessories and a full line of auto body paint.
JCPenney Co., Inc. (972-431-1000) is planning to open a 99,000 sq.ft. JCPenney store on the north side of Village West, a center located on Stadium Parkway, just south of Parallel Parkway, in Kansas City, KS. The single-story building will have a warehouse-type architectural look with a brick veneer exterior face. The company currently operates more than 1,000 JCPenney department stores throughout the U.S. and Puerto Rico.
Landry’s Restaurants, Inc. (713-850-1010) is planning to open a Joe’s Crab Shack restaurant and a Rainforest Café restaurant in Cairo, Egypt this summer. The two restaurants will be located in the Stars Centre Shopping Center in the Citystars development, a mixed-use center featuring three hotels, numerous residential units and shopping and entertainment options. Joe’s Crab Shack currently operates 150-plus U.S. locations. Landry’s owns and operates eight other Rainforest Café restaurants internationally in cities, including Toronto, Ontario and Niagara Falls in Canada, London, Paris, Tokyo and Mexico City, along with 26 locations in the U.S. Landry’s operates more than 300 restaurants specializing in seafood and steaks. Its Chart House and Saltgrass Steak House units feature a wide range of red meat options. Other concepts include Charley’s Crab and its signature Landry’s Seafood House.
Panda Restaurant Group, Inc. (626-799-9898) is planning to open a 2,448 sq.ft. Panda Express restaurant in western Eugene, OR later this year at the intersection of Seventh Avenue and Seneca Street. The company operates Panda Express, the largest chain of Chinese restaurants in the U.S., with more than 680 locations throughout approximately 35 states. The chain offers quick-service Chinese food primarily in high-traffic locations, including malls, airports, and sporting arenas. It also runs more than a dozen mall-based Hibachi-San outlets that offer a quick-service Japanese grill menu. The company also operates a handful of Panda Inn branded units throughout CA.
Shoe Carnival, Inc. (812-867-6471) is planning to open 13 to 15 Shoe Carnival stores this year. The company currently operates approximately 263 footwear stores throughout the southern and Midwestern U.S. featuring bright lights and neon signs. In-store “barkers” mark specials and organize games soliciting customer participation to promote the “carnival-like” atmosphere. Shoe Carnival sells brandname and private-label men’s, women’s, children’s, and athletic footwear. It has been adding about 30 stores annually, preferring to open locations simultaneously to save on management and distribution costs.
Sony Electronics, Inc. (858-942-2400) is planning to open Sony Style stores in Edison, NJ; Seattle, WA; Indianapolis, IN and in Portland, OR. With the four 6,000 sq.ft. stores, Sony will have added 15 Sony Style stores in high-end fashion malls across the U.S. during the fiscal year. The stores are a showcase for the company’s most innovative electronics and entertainment offerings and provide customers with hands-on experience with Sony’s products through multiple demonstration areas. The stores showcase all of Sony’s entertainment merchandise, including the latest CDs from Sony BMG Music, DVD movies from Sony Pictures Entertainment, digital music downloads from Sony CONNECT, and PlayStation 2 consoles and video games. The stores also have a concierge located at the entrance of each store, personal in-home delivery services and custom installation support. The company currently operates 32 Sony Style stores, including large destination stores on Madison Avenue in New York, NY and at the Metreon in San Francisco, CA.
PETCO Animal Supplies, Inc. (858-453-7845) is planning to open approximately 90 Petco stores this year. The company currently operates approximately 779 stores throughout 47 states.
Incredible Pizza Co. (918-392-7891) is planning to open six Incredible Pizza stores this year. The company currently operates five locations. Four of the planned stores will open in St. Louis, MO; Memphis, TN and Champions and Euless, TX and are franchised, while stores under construction in San Antonio and Victoria, TX are company-owned. Overall, the company is looking to be operating 62 franchised and company-owned locations stretching from FL to AZ. Thirty of those stores will open through a franchise agreement with French Interests, Inc. by 2018. The stores typically require spaces of 90,000 sq.ft.
Carvel Corp. (404-255-3250) is planning to open nine central FL Carvel locations during the coming three years. In addition, the company is looking to add as many as 30 locations in the area during the coming few years. The company is known for its soft serve ice cream and other frozen treats, including character-shaped frozen ice cream cakes. Its chain of more than 500 franchised ice cream shops are located throughout approximately 25 states, primarily in the Northeastern U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico. Carvel’s food-service locations are in high-traffic areas such as airports, malls, and sports stadiums. In addition, the company sells ice cream cakes through some 8,000 supermarkets.
Stein Mart, Inc. (904-346-1500) is planning to open approximately 20 Stein Mart stores, with the majority opening in the third quarter of the year. The company, which operates approximately 260 stores throughout about 30 states, sells women’s, men’s, and children’s brand-name clothing at discount prices. Fashions range from casual to formal wear. Its stores also sell jewelry, bed and bath linens, and gift items. Independent firms lease its shoe and fragrance departments.
Cost Plus, Inc. (510-893-7300) is planning to open as many as 20 Cost Plus World Market stores this year. Cost Plus operates approximately 270 stores that sell furniture, rugs, baskets, and ceramics, as well as exotic food and beverages. Designed to resemble upscale third world markets, Cost Plus’ stores are located throughout 34 states.
Benihana, Inc. (305-593-0770) is planning to open RA Sushi restaurants throughout CA, FL, IL, NV and TX. Benihana owns and operates approximately 73 Benihana and Benihana Grill locations throughout approximately 20 states and has some 20 franchised restaurants in a dozen other countries. In addition, the company operates more than 15 other restaurants doing business or under development as Haru or Doraku.
Christopher & Banks Corp. (763-551-5000) is planning to open approximately 85 to 100 stores in 2007. The openings will include 35 to 40 Christopher & Banks stores; 40 to 45 C.J. Banks stores and up to 15 Acorn stores. Approximately 35 stores are planned to open in the second and third quarters. Christopher & Banks sells moderately priced private-label women’s fashions throughout approximately 705 stores in 45 states. Sportswear accounts for two-thirds of sales; the rest comes from sweaters and accessories. Its C.J. Banks stores offer specialty apparel in sizes 14W and up. The chains cater to working women 40 to 60 of age. In 2004 the company purchased the upscale women’s fashion 21-store Acorn chain from womenswear retailer Gilmore Brothers Inc.
Tumbleweed Restaurants, Inc. (502-893-0323) is planning to open approximately 21 Tumbleweed Southwest Grills locations throughout NC. The company is currently planning to open five restaurants throughout the Raleigh-Durham area. The company operates Southwestern-style restaurants throughout eight states and internationally. With more than 63 restaurants operating in the U.S. and others opening internationally, the company is concentrating on accelerating its growth over a period of 18 months. Port City Java operates approximately 50 locations, which are located in the U.S., Asia, South America, and Europe.
Cosi, Inc. (847-597-8800) is planning to open 17 company-owned Cosi locations, as well as 20 franchised restaurants. The company owns and operates more than 94 eclectic Cosí cafés throughout approximately 20 states offering premium and specialty coffees and made-to-order sandwiches. Its menu also features breakfast items, salads, soups, and desserts. Most of its restaurants also offer dinner and drinks after 5 p.m., while its Cosí Downtown units, which are primarily located in non-residential business districts, close in the evening. Cosi also offers delivery and catering services and operates a handful of coffee kiosks in Macy’s department stores. |
