Who's Opening & Where Big Y Foods, Inc. (413-784-0600) is planning to open stores throughout CT during the next two years. The company will be opening a World Class Market in North Branford in 2008, its fifth in New Haven County. The company is also planning to open a World Class Big Y in Bethel during Spring 2007, a location in Stratford that is slated to open in early 2008, a World Class Market in Torrington that is slated to replace the existing Big Y in early 2008 and a store in Old Saybrook that is currently under development. Big Y operates 56 stores throughout CT and MA.
The TJX Cos., Inc. (508-390-3000) is planning to open T.J. Maxx stores in Hartland and Fowlerville, MI. The company also plans to open a 28,000 sq.ft. store during May in Genoa, MI on Grand River Avenue at a former Kroger site. The location is the company’s 20th store in the metro Detroit, MI area. At the end of 2005, the company operated 799 stores at an average size of approximately 30,000 sq.ft.
Puma North America (978-698-1000) is planning to triple its Puma store count by 2010. The company recently opened a 5,300 sq.ft. flagship store at Union Square in New York, NY and a similarly designed store in Portland, OR. The company plans to open more locations by the end of the year. Puma currently operates 80 stores and plans call for that number to increase to 240 by 2010. The company is seeking locations near Apple and Pac Sun stores. The stores offer sneakers and athletic clothing.
FAO Schwarz (800-876-7867) is planning to open two locations in New York, NY next year. The stores would be smaller than the flagship store on Fifth Avenue in New York, NY. The company currently operates two stores, with the other store located in Las Vegas, NV.
Applebee’s International, Inc. (913-967-4091) is planning to open an Applebee’s restaurant in Cambridge, OH on Southgate Parkway. Construction of the site is slated to begin Spring 2007. Area retail includes Kmart. There are currently 1,900 locations in 49 states and 17 countries outside the U.S. The restaurants offer moderately priced food and beverages.
Whole Foods Market (804-378-5005) is planning to open a 50,000 sq.ft. store in Darien, CT. The store is slated to open in early 2009. The company is looking to expand into Fairfield County. The company currently operates 187 locations in North America and the U.K. at an average size of 32,000 sq.ft.
Staples, Inc. (508-253-8261) is planning to open a store in Mountain Home, AR during April 2007. The store will be adjacent to Popeye’s Chicken and Biscuits and Quiznos. Staples has locations in 21 countries throughout North and South America, Europe and Asia. The company operates more than 1,800 office superstores.
Maui Divers Jewelry (800-253-6016) is planning to open a store in San Francisco, CA early next year. The store will be the HI company’s first in the mainland U.S. The company handcrafts designs of coral, pearl and Hawaiian jewelry.
Publix Super Markets, Inc. (863-688-1188) is planning to open a Publix in Hixson, TN at the intersection of Hixson Pike and Cassandra Smith Road. The 54,340 sq.ft. store is slated to open during the third quarter of 2008. There will also be 24,000 sq.ft. available for additional retail space. The company operates 885 stores throughout AL, FL, GA, SC and TN.
Burberry’s, Ltd. (212-757-3700) is planning to open stores in the U.S. and Europe during the next six months. In the second half of the year, the company plans to open five stores, including three locations in the U.S.
Kohl’s Corp. (262-703-7000) is planning to open about 400 Kohl’s locations by 2010. In October, the company opened stores in Boston, MA; Dayton, OH; Las Vegas, NV; Los Angeles, CA; Minneapolis, MN and Tampa, FL. The company will be looking to open future stores in urban locations.
