Who's Opening & Where Euromarket Designs, Inc. (847-272-2888) is planning to open a 37,000 sq.ft., two-level Crate & Barrel store at SouthPark, a center located in Charlotte, NC. Opening is slated for the Fall. The company currently operates approximately 135 stores, including nearly a dozen outlet stores, throughout 21 U.S. states and Washington, DC. About a third of the merchandise, which includes furniture and housewares, is unique to the chain.
Brinker International, Inc. (972-980-9917) reached an agreement with Bonnaroo Restaurant Group to develop up to 29 Chili’s Grill & Bar locations throughout GA and SC, as well as two other states. The agreement will focus development in the metro areas of Columbia, Myrtle Beach and Charleston, SC and Augusta, GA. Chili’s currently operates more than 1,100 locations throughout 24 countries. The restaurants offer southwestern-style dishes, such as fajitas, margarita grilled chicken and baby back ribs. In addition to Chili’s, Brinker operates the Italian-themed Romano’s Macaroni Grill and the Mexican-flavored On The Border Mexican Grill & Cantina. Its smaller chains include Maggiano’s Little Italy, Rockfish Seafood Grill and Corner Bakery Cafe.
Chick-fil-A, Inc. (404-765-8038) is planning to open as many as 72 Chick-fil-A locations this year, including 61 freestanding restaurants. With approximately 1,240 restaurants, Chick-fil-A serves chicken entrees, sandwiches, and salads, along with waffle fries and fresh-squeezed lemonade. The chain is made up primarily of mall-based stores, but it also includes freestanding units that offer drive-thru service as well as dine-in seating. Chick-fil-A also licenses its concept to foodservice operators for high-traffic areas, such as schools and airports.
Kohl’s Corp. (262-703-7000) is planning to open a Kohl’s store in Myrtle Beach, NC this year. The company currently operates approximately 675 discount department stores throughout 40 states. The stores offer moderately priced name brand and private-label apparel, shoes, accessories and housewares. Kohl’s competes with discount and mid-level department stores. Merchandising relationships allow Kohl’s to carry top brands not typically available to discounters; it sells them cheaper than department stores by controlling costs.
The Dress Barn, Inc. (845-369-4500) is planning to open a Dress Barn store at Crestview Hills Town Center located in Cincinnati, OH. The space was previously occupied by Casual Corner and Petite Sophisticate. The Dress Barn operates approximately 800 Dress Barn and 500-plus Maurices locations in strip centers and outlet centers throughout 48 states and Washington, DC, to suit the budget-conscious career woman. The retailer’s Dress Barn, Dress Barn Woman (larger sizes), and combination stores sell in-season, moderate- to better-quality women’s apparel and accessories at discount prices and cater to professional women in their mid 30s to mid 50s. Some stores also sell petite sizes, jewelry, and shoes.
Harris Teeter, Inc. (704-845-3100) is planning to open a Harris Teeter supermarket in Murfreesboro, TN during fiscal year 2007. The company also is looking to open locations at Providence Marketplace in Mt. Juliet, TN and at the intersection of Concord Road and Nolensville Road in Nashville, TN. Harris Teeter currently operates approximately 145 supermarkets, mostly in NC, but also in five other southeastern states. Most of the upscale regional chain’s grocery stores feature niceties such as sushi bars, gourmet delis and cafes. Harris Teeter operates six stores in northern VA and has plans to expand in the Washington, D.C. market and the nearby suburbs.
Kash n’ Karry Food Stores, Inc. (813-620-1139) has plans to open as many as 10 Sweetbay Supermarket stores per year during the coming years. A handful of stores are slated to open this year, but greater expansion is slated to take place next year. The company is looking to open stores in the Sarasota-Bradenton market. Sweetbay has been overhauling the existing Kash n’ Karry stores, expanding produce and meat departments, adding more organic fare and introducing a variety of prepared foods. The company operates more than 100 supermarkets throughout FL under the Kash n’ Karry and Sweetbay Supermarket banners.
Dollar General Corp. (615-855-4000) is planning to open approximately 30 Dollar General Markets stores this year, some of which will be conversions of traditional stores. At 16,000 sq.ft., the experimental format is more than twice the size of a typical unit and carries a wider assortment of food, including produce, refrigerated and frozen items. The company currently operates a chain of more than 7,800 discount stores throughout approximately 30 states, primarily in the southern and eastern U.S. and the Midwest. The stores offer basic household items, such as cleaning supplies and health and beauty aids, as well as some apparel and food.
Whole Foods Market, Inc. (512-477-4455) is planning to open a Whole Foods Market store at the intersection of Sand Lake and Turkey Lake Roads in Orlando, FL. Opening is slated for next year and will be twice the size of its current store in northeast Orlando on Aloma Avenue in Winter Park. In addition to the Orlando stores, Whole Foods is planning to open at least eight other stores nationwide. The company currently operates approximately 175 stores throughout 30 U.S. states, Washington, DC; and in Canada and the United Kingdom. The stores emphasize perishable products, which account for more than two-thirds of sales. Whole Foods offers more than 1,500 items in four lines of private-label products, such as the premium Whole Foods and a line of organic products for children called Whole Kids.
Carlson Cos., Inc. (763-212-1000) is planning to open a T.G.I. Friday’s restaurant at CenterPlace in Greeley, CO. Opening is slated for late spring. The 5,100 sq.ft. restaurant will be located between the Outback Steak House and Red Robin along the U.S. 34 Bypass, east of 47th Avenue. Overall, the company is planning to open 50 T.G.I. Friday’s locations this year and 100 during the coming two years. Carlson’s restaurant empire includes the 750-unit T.G.I. Friday’s chain. The restaurants operates locations worldwide, including 40 outlets throughout the United Kingdom and 60 countries.
Supervalu, Inc. (952-828-4000) is planning to open as many as 50 Sunflower Market stores during the coming five years. The 12,000 sq.ft. stores carry 8,000 to 12,000 units of natural and organic products. The stores contain frozen and dairy departments, produce and bulk foods, deli and cheese, an all-natural bakery and café, hormone and antibiotic-free meat and seafood, beer and wine and a wellness department. Supervalu supplies about 2,200 retail grocery stores throughout 48 states with brand name and private-label goods. The company also operates approximately 1,550 stores throughout 40 states. These include price-oriented superstores, such as Shoppers Food Warehouse, Cub Foods, Shop ‘n Save, and bigg’s; extreme-value formats Save-A-Lot and general merchandiser Deal$ - Nothing Over A Dollar; and about 60 supermarkets using the Farm Fresh, Scott’s Foods and Hornbacher’s banners.
Target Corp. (612-304-6073) is planning to open two SuperTarget stores along the Santan in Gilbert, AZ this year. Target also is planning to open a store at Monadnock Marketplace, a 500,000 sq.ft. center located on Ash Brook Road, between Route 9 and Route 9/10/12 bypass in Keene, NH. Opening is slated for next month. The company currently operates approximately 1,400 Target and SuperTarget stores throughout 47 states, as well as an online business called Target.com.
Triarc Cos., Inc. (212-451-3000) is planning to open 28 Arby’s restaurants throughout AZ, CA, CT, FL, IA, IL, NC, TX, UT, VA and WI. Arby’s fast-food restaurants operates approximately 3,400 locations throughout the U.S. and five other countries. Arby’s is best known for its roast beef sandwiches and curly fries; it also serves salads and breakfast items. In addition, Triarc owns the T.J. Cinnamons and Pasta Connection brands.
Marburn Stores, Inc. (201-943-0222) is planning to open stores at the following locations throughout NJ: Hartford Corner Center in Delran; Hadley Center located on Stelton Road in South Plainfield and on Route 37 West in Toms River. The company also is planning to open a Marburn Curtains store on Nesconset Highway in Port Jefferson Station, NY.
Burlington Coat Factory Warehouse Corp. (609-387-7800) is planning to open a Burlington Coat Factory store by the end of this fiscal year. The company currently operates approximately 367 retail stores offering current, brand-name clothing at less than the standard retail price. Although it is one of the nation’s largest coat sellers, it also sells bath items, children’s apparel and furniture, gifts, jewelry, linens and shoes. The company operates under such names as Burlington Coat Factory, Cohoes Fashions, Luxury Linens, MJM Designer Shoe and Super Baby Depot in 42 states. |
