Barnes & Noble, Inc. (212-633-3300) is planning to open a Barnes & Noble store at the Magnolia Mall located at the intersection of Interstate 20 and Interstate 95 in Florence, SC. Opening is slated for April 2007. The store will include a café serving Starbucks coffee. The company currently operates more than 680 Barnes & Noble superstores throughout all 50 U.S. states and Washington, DC. It also owns almost 120 mostly mall-based B. Dalton bookstores.

 

The TJX Cos., Inc. (508-390-1000) is planning to open an A.J. Wright store at Fields Corner, a center located on Dorchester Avenue in Dorchester, MA. The TJX Companies operates seven retail chains, including the two largest off-price clothing retailers in the U.S. in T.J. Maxx and Marshalls. T.J. Maxx sells brand-name family apparel, accessories, women’s shoes, domestics, giftware and jewelry at discount prices at some 800 stores nationwide. Marshalls offers a full line of shoes and a broader selection of menswear through more than 700 stores. Its HomeGoods chain of 250-plus stores nationwide focuses entirely on home furnishings, while its more than 150 A.J. Wright clothing stores aim for lower-income shoppers. T.K. Maxx is the company’s European retail arm with about 200 stores in the United Kingdom and Ireland.

 

Dollar Tree Stores, Inc. (757-321-5000) is planning to open as many as 10 to 15 Dollar Tree stores throughout the Valley area of Phoenix, AZ during the coming six to 24 months. The company currently operates 29 locations throughout the Phoenix area. The company currently operates 3,000-plus discount stores throughout 48 states, selling a changing mix of housewares, toys, seasonal items, food, health and beauty aids, gifts and books all priced at $1 or less. About 40% of its merchandise is imported, primarily from China; closeouts represent less than 15% of its inventory. Dollar Tree Stores are located in high-traffic strip centers anchored by mass merchandisers and supermarkets, as well as in small towns. Dollar Tree bought the Deal$-Nothing Over a Dollar chain in 2006 and the Greenbacks chain in 2003. In recent years, Dollar Tree has begun opening larger stores of approximately 10,000 sq.ft. to 15,000 sq.ft.

 

My Organic Market (301-816-1133) is planning to open an 8,115 sq.ft. store at Atlantic Columbia East Marketplace, a 172,000 sq.ft. center located at the intersection of Route 1 and Route 175 in Howard County, MD. The company, which specializes in providing organic produce, operates three additional locations throughout the metropolitan area in Rockville and College Park, MD and in Alexandria, VA.

 

J. Crew Group, Inc. (212-209-2500) is planning to open a new concept of casual clothing stores called Madewell. The stores will specialize in women’s fashion lines that retail for 20% to 30% lower than J. Crew. The stores will sell casual staples like jeans and chinos and 80% of the merchandise will cost under $100. The first store is slated to open at NorthPark Center in Dallas, TX this August. The company also is planning to open a store in Los Angeles during the fall. J. Crew Group, Inc. is known for its preppy fashions, including jeans, khakis, and other basic items sold to young professionals through its catalogs, Web site, and some 200 retail and outlet stores throughout the U.S. It also has nearly 45 shops in Japan through a joint venture with ITOCHU.

 

O’Reilly Automotive, Inc. (417-862-6708) is planning to open between 170 and 175 stores this year. O’Reilly Automotive sells aftermarket parts, automotive tools, professional service equipment, and accessories through more than 1,200 O’Reilly auto parts stores. O’Reilly sells new and remanufactured auto parts such as alternators and fuel pumps, maintenance items, accessories and a full line of auto body paint. O’Reilly is about 10%-owned by the O’Reilly family.

 

Gottschalks, Inc. (559-434-4800) is planning to open a store at the Valley River Mall in Eugene, OR. It will be the company’s fourth store in OR. Opening is slated for the fall. At 124,000 sq.ft. it will be the largest of the Gottschalks stores in the state. The other three are in Klamath Falls, Grants Pass and Albany. The company’s stores anchor smaller city malls and offer moderately priced and better name-brand consumer goods such as clothes, shoes, housewares, and accessories. Gottschalks operates more than 60 department stores, mostly in CA, but also in AK, ID, NV and WA. It also sells larger-sized women’s clothing in its six Village East specialty stores.

 

AutoZone, Inc. (901-495-6500) is planning to open a 6,800 sq.ft. AutoZone store on South U.S. Highway 97 in Bend, OR. Opening is slated for next month. The store will be located near the Fred Meyer Shopping Center. The company currently operates approximately 3,700 stores throughout the U.S. It also operates more than 80 stores in Mexico and is expanding into Puerto Rico. AutoZone stores sell hard parts, such as alternators, engines and batteries, maintenance items like oil and antifreeze, accessories such as car stereos and floor mats, and other merchandise under brand names as well as under private labels, including Duralast and Valucraft.

 

Wal*Mart Stores, Inc. (479-273-4000) is planning to open a Wal*Mart store in Portage La Praire, Canada. Opening is slated for early 2007. The company also is planning to open a Wal*Mart Supercenter in Wellington, FL. Opening is slated for next fall. The store would be located south of U.S. 160 and just east of the Wellington High School. The company also is planning to open a 232,437 sq.ft. Wal*Mart Supercenter store in Stafford, VA. Opening is slated within the coming two to three years. The company also is planning to open a 203,000 sq.ft. Wal*Mart Supercenter store in Lewisburg, PA. The supercenter will anchor a 60-acre shopping center currently tenanted by Sheetz and Applebee’s. The company currently operates more than 5,700 stores, including approximately 1,350 Wal*Mart stores, nearly 2,000 Wal*Mart Supercenter locations in the U.S. and the United Kingdom, and 550 Sam’s Club stores. Nearly 75% of its stores are in the U.S., but Wal*Mart is expanding internationally; it is the top retailer in Canada and Mexico. Wal-Mart also has operations in Europe and South America.

 

Applebee’s International, Inc. (913-967-4000) is planning to open as many as 120 Applebee’s restaurants this year, including approximately 40 company restaurants and at least 80 franchised locations. About 20 company restaurants are slated to open in the first half of the year, with the balance opening in the second half. Approximately 40 franchised restaurants are expected to open in the first half of the year, with the remainder opening in the second half. The company operates the largest casual-dining chain with more than 1,800 of its signature Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill & Bar locations across the U.S. and in more than a dozen other countries. Its eateries are primarily freestanding locations and sport interiors decorated with local memorabilia to give each location an indigenous feel. The menu features beef, chicken, and pork items, as well as burgers, pasta and seafood. The chain is known for its selection of appetizers. The company owns and operates about 25% of its restaurants, while the rest are franchised.

 

Lenny’s Franchisor, LLC (901-259-2850) is planning to increase its presence throughout GA and expand into SC. Coastal Subs, Inc. will develop eight restaurants throughout eight counties in coastal GA, including Bryan, Bulloch, Camden, Chatham, Effingham, Glynn, Liberty and McIntosh, and nine counties in coastal SC, including Beaufort, Berkeley, Charleston, Colleton, Dorchester, Florence, Georgetown, Horry and Jasper. Coastal Subs plans to open restaurants in Savannah, GA and Charleston, SC by the end of the year. Lenny’s has recently opened several restaurants throughout new markets, including Las Vegas, NV; San Antonio, TX; Sarasota, FL and Charlotte, NC. In addition, the company has sold multi-restaurant packages in several states, including NV, CA, VA and KS. Lenny’s is planning to open between 400 and 500 restaurants during the coming few years.

 

Walgreen Co. (847-914-2500) is planning to open a 15,000 sq.ft. Walgreens store in Brewton, AL. The property sits directly across from a Wal*Mart store that also houses a pharmacy. The company also is planning to open a 14,700 sq.ft. Walgreens store at the intersection of State Road and Congress Avenue in Bath, ME. Walgreen currently operates approximately 5,100 stores throughout 45 states and Puerto Rico. Prescription drugs account for nearly 64% of sales; the rest comes from general merchandise, over-the-counter medications, cosmetics and groceries. Walgreen builds rather than buys stores, so it can pick prime locations. More than two-thirds of its stores offer drive-thru pharmacies, and almost all offer one-hour photo processing.

 

Volcom, Inc. (949-646-2175) is planning to open a licensed shop in the Gaslamp District of San Diego, CA. The company also is planning to open another two or three stores by the end of the year. Volcom designs and makes apparel and accessories for board sports and offers its wares through a store in Los Angeles and youth-focused retailers like Zumiez and PacSun across the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico. The company sells to distributors in Japan and South Korea.

 

Lowe’s Cos., Inc. (704-758-1000) is planning to open a 170,000 sq.ft. Lowe’s Home Improvement store at the intersection of West 37th Street and 16th Avenue in Hialeah, FL. The space was formerly occupied by the Hialeah Speedway. Opening is slated for early next year. It will be the company’s second store in Miami-Dade County. The company also is planning to open a 130,000 sq.ft. store on Veterans Parkway in Cape Coral, FL. Lowe’s Companies currently operates more than 1,200 superstores throughout 49 states and has announced plans to expand into Canada in 2007. The company’s stores sell about 40,000 products for do-it-yourselfers and professionals for home improvement and repair projects, such as gardening products, home fashion items, lumber, millwork, plumbing and electrical supplies, and tools, as well as appliances and furniture.

 

Maurices, Inc. (218-727-8431) is planning to open a store at the Cullman Shopping Center located on Second Avenue in Cullman, AL. The company also is looking to open stores in Decatur and Guntersville, AL this year. Overall, Maurices is looking to open 50 locations this year. The company currently operates more than 500 retail clothing stores throughout 39 states targeting the 17-to-34-year-old set.

 

Coach, Inc. (212-594-1850) is planning to open 12 retail stores throughout the U.S., bringing the total of new stores to 25 in fiscal 2006. By the end of the year, the company will have opened approximately 55 locations globally. During 2007, the company is looking to open at least 85 Coach U.S. stores and international locations. Coach designs and manufactures classically styled, high-quality leather goods and accessories, including purses, outerwear, luggage and gloves. The company also licenses its name for watches, eyewear, footwear and furniture. Coach sells its wares through department and outlet stores in the U.S. and in 19 other countries, catalogs, and its Web site. It also runs some 285 stores in the U.S. and plans to open about 20 new stores a year.

 

Target Corp. (612-304-6073) is planning to open a store on the south side of Interstate 30, between Alcoa Road and Mt. Carmel Road, in Bryant, AR. The site is anchored by Kohl’s and Old Navy. The company currently operates nearly 1,300 Target and SuperTarget stores throughout 47 states, including four locations throughout AR.

 

The Liquor Store, LLC (970-728-0724) is planning to open a 10,000 sq.ft. super liquor store adjacent to a Wal*Mart store in Montrose, CO during August.

 

Noodles & Company (303-554-1963) is planning to operate as many as 500 locations in the coming four to seven years. This year, the company is looking to open 24 to 30 restaurants. New markets will include Columbus, OH; St. Louis, MO and Portland, OR. Noodles & Company currently operates about 100 Noodles & Company restaurants throughout 10 states that feature entrees in a variety of American, Asian, and Mediterranean flavors, from penne pasta to chicken noodle soup. The chain’s menu includes noodle and vegetable bowls, soups, and green salads with pasta. It also offers ‘noodle-less’ dishes, such as mixed grill and shrimp sauté.

 

AZ3, Inc. (323-589-2224) is planning to open a 2,568 sq.ft. BCBG Max Azria store at SouthPark, a center located in Charlotte, NC. The store will be located next to Ralph Lauren and will offer a selection of women’s ready-to-wear items, evening dresses, bridal goods, denim, eyewear, swimwear, footwear, handbags, small leather goods and fragrances. The company sells the BCBG women’s collection in more than 100 company-owned stores, including outlets, throughout the U.S., as well as through in-store shops in department stores. The company operates 30 stores in Canada, France and Japan. AZ3 also boasts men’s and plus-size lines, as well as accessories.

 

Starbucks Corp. (206-447-1575) is planning to open at least 1,800 stores on a global basis this year. In the U.S., the company is looking to open approximately 700 company-operated locations and 600 licensed locations. Throughout international markets, Starbucks plans to open approximately 150 company-operated stores and 350 licensed stores. The company also is planning to open a 1,800 sq.ft. store with a drive-thru in Brentwood, MO this summer at the intersection of Brentwood Boulevard and White Avenue. Starbucks currently operates approximately 10,000 coffee shops throughout more than 30 countries. The shops offer coffee drinks and food items, as well as beans, coffee accessories, teas and CDs. Starbucks owns about 6,000 of its shops, which are located in 10 countries, mostly in the U.S., while licensees and franchisees operate more than 4,200 units worldwide, primarily in shopping centers and airports. The company also owns and franchises the Seattle’s Best Coffee and Torrefazione Italia chains in the U.S. In addition, Starbucks markets its coffee through grocery stores and licenses its brand for other food and beverage products.

 

RARE Hospitality International, Inc. (770-399-9595) opened 10 restaurants during the first quarter of fiscal 2006. The company’s LongHorn Steakhouse concept expects to open as many as 30 company-owned restaurants in the fiscal year, including seven to eight restaurants during the second quarter. The company’s Capital Grille concept is planning to open two additional restaurants during the second half of this fiscal year. The company owns and franchises more than 300 casual-dining restaurants that specialize in steak and beef dishes. Its flagship LongHorn Steakhouse chain offers steak, seafood, and chicken dishes in a casual setting with Western decor. There are about 250 LongHorn Steakhouses throughout 25 states as well as four franchised units in Puerto Rico. The more than 30 Bugaboo Creek Steak House locations are moderately priced for family diners. The restaurants have a mountain lodge motif and are located in 10 states. The 23 upscale Capital Grilles are found in 18 states and Washington D.C.

 

Abuelo’s Mexican Food Embassy Restaurants (806-789-5795) recently opened a 7,700 sq.ft. restaurant on Nicholasville Road in Lexington, KY. It is the company’s second location in KY and its 34th location nationwide. Abuelo’s operates a restaurant in Crestview Hills, KY, located just outside of Cincinnati, OH. Two additional restaurants are currently under construction in Knoxville, TN and in College Station, TX. The company also operates locations in Abilene, Amarillo, Arlington, Austin, Hurst, Lewisville, Lubbock, Midland, East Plano and West Plano, TX; in Bricktown Oklahoma City, Oklahoma City and Tulsa, OK; in Chandler, Peoria and Scottsdale, AZ; Rogers, AR; Wichita, KS; Columbus, Cincinnati, Toledo, Beavercreek and Warrensville Heights, OH; Bartlett, TN; Kansas City, MO; Traders Point/Indianapolis, Carmel, Evansville and Merrillville, IN; Myrtle Beach, SC; Sterling Heights, MI and in Madison, WI.

 

Steve & Barry’s, LLC (516-829-4730) is planning to open a 48,000 sq.ft. store on the second level of the Tanglewood Mall located in Roanoke, VA. Opening is slated for October. The company also is planning to open a store at Washington Square Mall in Indianapolis, IN. The company, which sells everything in its stores for $9.98 and under, operates over 130 stores nationwide. Stores range from 50,000 to over 150,000 sq.ft. The firm buys its merchandise, which includes T-shirts, button-down shirts, varsity jackets, sweatpants, tank tops and backpacks, from vendors in the U.S., Canada, Central America, India, Mexico and Pakistan.

 

Kona Grill, Inc. (480-922-8100) recently opened a restaurant at NorthPark Center located at the intersection of North Central Expressway and Northwest Highway in Dallas, TX. The company currently operates three restaurants throughout TX. This year, Kona Grill is planning to open five locations. The company owns and operates restaurants in Scottsdale and Chandler, AZ; Denver, CO; Carmel, IN; Kansas City, MO; Omaha, NE; Las Vegas, NV and Dallas, San Antonio and Sugar Land, TX. Kona Grill serves seafood and American dishes with an island twist. Each restaurant features a full-service bar, sushi, and a 2,000-gallon saltwater aquarium.

 

The Cheesecake Factory, Inc. (818-871-3000) is planning to open as many as 21 restaurants, including three Grand Lux Café locations, during this fiscal year. The majority of the openings will take place in the second half of the year. The Cheesecake Factory also is planning to open a restaurant at the Ross Park Mall in the Pittsburgh, PA area. Opening is slated for later this year. The company runs more than 100 casual-dining restaurants, offering about 200 menu items ranging from sandwiches and salads to steaks and seafood. The highlight of the menu is cheesecake, which comes in about 40 varieties, including Chocolate Tuxedo Cream and Kahlua Cocoa Coffee. Each restaurant has a unique design. In addition to its flagship concept, the company operates seven Grand Lux Cafes, licenses two bakery cafes, and sells its cheesecakes to supermarkets and foodservice operations.

 

HOB Entertainment, Inc. (323-769-4600) is planning to open a House of Blues restaurant/concert venue in Seattle, WA. The company reached an agreement with the Seattle Theatre Group to develop a venue adjacent to the historic Paramount Theatre. Opening is slated for Spring 2007. The company currently owns and operates about a dozen House of Blues clubs that offer food, drinks, and live music from some of the top blues and rock performers in the country. Its House of Blues Concerts subsidiary owns, operates, or exclusively books more than 15 venues across North America and promotes several national tours. It’s A Grind Coffee Franchise, LLC  (562-594-5600) has signed agreements with 180 franchisees representing 290 stores. By the end of the year, the company is looking to open 40 stores. During 2007, the company is planning to open another 75 locations. The company is opening a store about every four days. It’s A Grind currently operates approximately 100 locations throughout 12 states. The stores serve a variety of coffee drinks, teas and baked goods.

 

La-Z-Boy, Inc. (734-242-1444) is planning to open six locations throughout CT and in southern MA during the coming 12 to 18 months. Stores are expected to open in Manchester, CT in August and Newington, CT in November. Four additional stores, in Avon, Norwalk, Stamford and West Springfield, MA, are expected to open next year. The CT stores will average approximately 20,000 sq.ft. La-Z-Boy sells through more than 60 company-owned stores, almost 275 independent La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries, and nearly 335 in-store galleries at furniture dealers, department stores, and other outlets. La-Z-Boy also makes wood furniture and licenses its name for use on furniture for the health care industry. Its brands include La-Z-Boy, Bauhaus USA, Hammary, Lea and Kincaid.

 

OSI Restaurant Partners, Inc. (813-282-1225) is planning to open an Outback Steakhouse restaurant in Ocala, FL. The restaurant will be located in front of Six Gun Plaza, which is anchored by Beall’s. Formerly Outback Steakhouse, OSI Restaurant Partners is an operator of casual-dining spots with more than 1,300 locations throughout the U.S. and 20 other countries. Its 920-unit flagship concept, Outback Steakhouse, offers steak, chicken, and seafood served in an Australian-themed atmosphere. Outback also operates 200 Carrabba’s Italian Grill restaurants, which offer pasta, chicken and seafood dishes. Other concepts include Bonefish Grill, Cheeseburger In Paradise, Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse, Lee Roy Selmon’s and Roy’s. The company owns about 86% of its locations.

 

Asqew Grill (415-292-1888) is planning to open two company-operates restaurants this year, as well as two more locations next year. The fast-casual skewer concept currently operates four locations throughout the San Francisco, CA area.

 

Hapa Sushi Grill/Sake Bar (303-473-4730) is planning to open 100 locations within the coming three years. The company currently operates three restaurants in Cherry Creek and Boulder, CO.

 

Williams-Sonoma, Inc. (415-421-7900) is planning to open a 25,000 sq.ft. Williams-Sonoma store at Mockingbird Station in Dallas, TX. The space was formerly occupied by The Virgin Megastore. The stores offer goods for well-appointed kitchens, bedrooms and baths. Home products include bath and storage products, bedding, cookware, furniture and tableware. The company’s retail chains, Williams-Sonoma and larger Grande Cuisine, which offers upscale cookware, Pottery Barn and larger Design Studio, which offers housewares and furniture, and Hold Everything, which offers storage items, sell wares through some 570 stores throughout 43 states, Washington, DC, and Canada. It also operates about 15 Williams-Sonoma outlet stores.

 

Euromarket Designs, Inc. (847-272-2888) is planning to open a Crate & Barrel store at the Burlington Mall in Burlington, MA. Opening is slated for next year. The space is currently occupied by Sullivan Tires. The company currently operates approximately 145 stores, including nearly a dozen outlet stores, throughout about 24 U.S. states and Washington, DC. About a third of the merchandise, which includes furniture and housewares, is unique to the chain. Crate & Barrel issues eight catalogs annually to some 15 million households and sells merchandise on its Web site.

 

Tractor Supply Co. (615-366-4600) is planning to open approximately 78 to 80 stores and 19 relocations. The company opened 29 stores and relocated five stores compared to 13 new and two relocated stores in the prior year. The company is looking to open a store on S.H. 6 in Navasota, TX. The site will include a 22,000 sq.ft. building and a 20,000 sq.ft. outdoor sales yard. Tractor Supply Company sells tractor parts and farm supplies, including its own private labels, such as fencing, animal feeds and medicines, garden products, riding mowers and work clothes. With nearly 600 stores throughout 37 states and British Columbia, Tractor Supply Co. operates one of the largest retail farm store chains in the U.S. The company concentrates its stores in rural areas and near large cities to cater to full- and part-time farmers and ranchers and to contractors.

 

Marco’s Pizza (800-262-7267) is planning to operate 500 units by 2010. The company currently operates pizza shops throughout AZ, IN, MI, NV and OH. During the coming months, the company is planning to open 10 franchised locations in Las Vegas, NV; 30 franchised locations throughout AZ; and five franchised locations throughout the Cleveland, OH area.

 

Dillard’s, Inc. (501-376-5200) is planning to open a Dillard’s store at Eastland Mall located in Evansville, IN. The space was formerly occupied by Famous-Barr. Dillard’s, Inc. currently operates approximately 330 locations throughout 29 states, covering the Sunbelt and the central U.S. Its stores cater to middle- and upper-middle-income women, selling brandname and private-label merchandise with a focus on apparel and home furnishings. Women’s and juniors’ apparel accounts for nearly a third of sales.

 

Gordman’s, Inc. (800-456-7463) is planning to open as many as seven locations this year. The stores, which typically occupy spaces of 60,000 sq.ft., feature a children’s theater and sports-themed television viewing area. The company currently operates 58 stores selling family apparel and home fashions throughout 13 states.

 

Back Yard Burgers, Inc. (901-367-0888) is planning to open two company-operated restaurants and 20 franchised locations for the remainder of the year. The company currently operates and franchises more than 170 of its signature fast food restaurants throughout nearly 20 southern and Midwestern states. The eateries are known for their made-to-order charbroiled hamburgers from 100% Black Angus beef. Back Yard Burgers’ menu also includes chicken sandwiches, chili, milkshakes, salads and cobbler. Most of the company’s restaurants offer both dine-in and drive-thru service.

 

Circuit City Stores, Inc. (804-527-4000) is planning to open over 30 stores during the coming two to three years. Circuit City Stores operates more than 600 superstores throughout approximately 45 states. The big box outlets offer a wide array of televisions, DVD players, and audio systems, as well as CDs and DVDs. Circuit City also sells personal computers and peripherals, mobile computing devices, telephones and video games. In addition to its retail stores, the company sells products through its Web site. Circuit City also owns Canadian electronics retailer InterTAN.

 

Kohl’s Corp. (262-703-7000) is planning to open a 68,890 sq.ft. Kohl’s store at the intersection of Mount Vernon Road and Deo Drive in Newark, OH. The company currently operates 740-plus discount department stores throughout 41 states. The stores offer moderately priced name-brand and private-label apparel, shoes, accessories and housewares. The company also has a revamped merchandising strategy and several new brands. The chain has developed three store prototypes. The small, suburban and urban prototypes will help the chain open 500 stores by 2010.

 

Art Van Furniture (586-939-0800) is planning to open as many as four mattress-only stores throughout the metro Detroit, MI area. The company is looking at four locations for mattress stores that would range from 3,500 sq.ft. to 6,000 sq.ft.

 

Peet’s Coffee & Tea, Inc. (510-594-2100) is planning to open between 23 and 28 stores this year. Best Buy Co., Inc. (612-291-1000) is planning to open a 30,000 sq.ft. store just south of Deer Trace Place near the intersection of Interstate 43 and State Highway 28 in Sheboygan, WI. Opening for the store is slated for December.

 

Caché, Inc. (212-575-3200) is planning to open between 15 to 20 stores this year. The upscale women’s apparel retailer owns and operates approximately 300 specialty stores in shopping malls throughout 43 U.S. states and in Puerto Rico under the Caché and Lillie Rubin banners, as well as an online shopping site. Sportswear, including casual wear, collections, and separates, accounts for the majority of store sales.

 

OXXO Care Cleaners (866-462-6996) is planning a nationwide expansion, with a focus on southern FL. The company has sold 25 franchises in south FL alone and has brought its brand to NJ, NY, CA and Washington, DC. OXXO is planning to open a location at The Village of Merrick Park in the Miami, FL area.

 

The Learning Experience (717-489-1520) is planning to open a location at Regal Plaza on Route 9 North in Howell, NJ. The center will include 10,000 sq.ft. of classroom, recreation and playground space.

 

CSK Auto Corp. (602-265-9200) recently opened 11 stores throughout the Denver, CO area and the Salt Lake City, UT area. The company also expects its recent acquisition of Murray’s Discount Auto Stores will help fuel more store growth this year. Since the Murray’s acquisition, the company has opened five stores throughout CO; four each in CA, IL and UT; three in AZ; two in MI and one each in MN, NM and NV. The retailer of automotive parts and accessories sells mainly to do-it-yourselfers but also to auto professionals. CSK Auto owns more than 1,273 stores throughout approximately 22 states under the names Checker Auto Parts, Schuck’s Auto Supply and Kragen Auto Parts.

 

Ruddick Corp. (704-372-5404) is planning to open four Harris Teeter stores that were acquired from Winn-Dixie by the end of the year. Through its subsidiary Harris Teeter, the company operates approximately 145 supermarkets in six southeastern states, mostly in NC. Most of the markets feature niceties such as sushi bars, gourmet delis and cafes.

 

KB Toys, Inc. (413-496-3000) is planning to open 20 stores this year and will remodel 75 to 90 stores by the end of the year. KB Toys operates approximately 640 stores and KB Toy Express, which is in operation during the holiday season.

 

Wegmans Food Markets, Inc. (585-328-2550) is planning to open a store at the Woodmere Towne Centre at the intersection of Route 202 and the Beltway in Landover, MD. Opening is slated for next year or during 2008. The company currently owns approximately 70 supermarkets from NY to VA. Much larger than most supermarkets, the stores offer specialty shops such as huge in-store cafes, cheese shops with some 400 different varieties and French-style pastry shops. The company is known for its gourmet cooking classes and an extensive employee-training program.

Its locations, which operate under the Panera and Saint Louis Bread Company banners, offer made-to-order sandwiches built using a variety of artisan breads, including Asiago cheese bread, focaccia and its classic sourdough bread. Its menu also features soups, salads, and gourmet coffees. In addition, Panera sells its bread, bagels, and pastries to go. About 310 of its locations are company-operated, while the rest are owned by franchisees.

 

Cameron Mitchell Restaurants, LLC (614-621-3663) is planning to open a 7,300 sq.ft. Mitchell’s Fish Market restaurant at The Village of Rochester Hills located in Rochester Hills, MI. The space was formerly occupied by Orvis and Harry & David. The company also is planning to open a Cameron’s Steakhouse restaurant in the Northville and Livonia, MI area that is slated to open by 2008. The company currently operates over 25 upscale establishments spanning 11 different concepts, including its flagship Martini Italian Bistro and Molly Woo’s. It also has restaurants operating in a half dozen other markets in seven states including IL, IN, KY, MI and PA.

The company currently operates more than 2,000 stores throughout all 50 U.S. states, Washington, DC, Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico. It targets the do-it-yourself and professional markets with a broad product assortment, including up to 50,000 items, such as lumber, floor and wall coverings, plumbing, gardening supplies, tools, paint and appliances. It’s the largest seller of garden products in North America and also runs about 35 EXPO Design Center stores, which are showrooms featuring bath, kitchen, and lighting products. Home Depot also is planning to expand into China.

 

Ross Stores, Inc. (925-965-4400) is planning to open a Ross store at the Brazos Mall located in Lake Jackson, TX. The company sells mostly closeout merchandise, including men’s, women’s, and children’s clothing, at prices well below those of department and specialty stores. Although apparel accounts for nearly two-thirds of sales, the stores also sell small furnishings, educational toys and games, luggage, and gourmet foods in select stores. Featuring the Ross “Dress for Less” trademark, the chain targets 25- to 54-year-old white-collar shoppers from primarily middle-income households. Ross stores are located in strip centers throughout 26 states, mostly in the western U.S. and Guam.

 

The Steak n Shake Co. (317-633-4100) is planning to open four restaurants in the Erie and Meadville, PA areas during the coming 18 to 24 months. Warren and Edinboro, PA are also possible locations. The Steak n Shake Company specializes in steakburgers served along with homemade shakes. The company operates and franchises approximately 430 Steak n Shake restaurants throughout about 20 states in the Midwest and southeast. The full-service chain’s menu features its hallmark steakburgers and milkshakes, as well as fries, chicken sandwiches and chili. About 60 units are operated by franchisees, while the rest are company-owned. The restaurants are open 24 hours a day.

 

Coldwater Creek Inc. (208-263-2266) is planning to open a store at Kent Station, a center located in Kent, WA. The upscale retailer sells mostly traditional apparel through several catalogs, a Web site, some 175 full-line retail stores and about 20 outlets, targeting middle- and upper-income customers.

 

Fred’s, Inc. (901-365-8880) is planning to open a total of 60 to 70 stores during fiscal 2006. The company currently operates about 620 discount stores throughout 15 mostly southeastern states, primarily in small towns. Fred’s stores carry more than 12,000 brand-name, off-brand, and private-label products, including pharmaceuticals, household goods, clothing and linens, food and tobacco items, health and beauty aids, and paper and cleaning supplies. Nearly half of Fred’s stores have full-service pharmacies; it also fills mail-order prescriptions. The company also provides goods and services to two dozen franchised Fred’s stores.

 

Stage Stores, Inc. (713-667-5601) is planning to open as many as 108 stores, which includes the conversion of 69 of the acquired B.C. Moore stores to Peeble’s stores. The first group of converted stores is slated to open during the first week of August. The company currently operates approximately 550 department stores, mainly in rural towns in TX and 30 other U.S. states. Through its Stage, Bealls, Palais Royal and Peebles stores, the company offers moderately priced apparel, cosmetics, gifts, and footwear. Nationally recognized brands such as Tommy Hilfiger, Liz Claiborne, Levi Strauss, Chaps, and Polo are sold alongside Stage Stores’ private-label merchandise.

 

Chick-fil-A, Inc. (404-765-8038) is planning to open a Chick-fil-A restaurant on Asheville Road in Leeds, AL.  Chick-fil-A currently operates more than 1,247 restaurants throughout 38 states and Washington, DC.  The company’s restaurants serve chicken entrees, salads and sandwiches, along with waffle fries and fresh-squeezed lemonade. The chain is made up mostly of mall-based stores, but it also includes freestanding locations that offer drive-thru service along with dine-in seating.  The chain expects to open more than 72 locations this year, including 61 freestanding restaurants.

 

Golf Galaxy, Inc. (952-941-8848) is planning to open two Golf Galaxy stores, including one on Old Country Road in Westbury, NY and one on Monroe Street in Toledo, OH.  The Westbury and Toledo stores will finish the company’s first quarter grand opening schedule of 11 stores and will bring the total count to 61 stores.  The company currently operates 59 stores throughout 24 states.  A nationwide expansion will continue this fall, with the expected openings of three to five more stores.  Golf Galaxy stores offer equipment, apparel and shoes, books and videos, gifts and accessories. The stores also sell pre-owned clubs and have a trade-in program.

 

Lenox Group Inc. (952-944-5600) is developing a new concept store, which will showcase all four company brands. The company’s goal is to open two to three stores with this new format before the end of the fiscal year. The company sells collectibles and giftware, primarily in the U.S. Items include figurines, holiday and home decorative products, and tableware. Lenox Group also sells products through corporate showrooms, six company stores, and trade shows.

 

Target Corp. (612-304-6073) is planning a major expansion of Target stores throughout central TX, with new stores in Cedar Park, South Austin and the Arboretum area, with one possibly opening next year.  For those locations, the company has signed letters of intent with Endeavor Real Estate Group.  The company is also considering sites in the Pflugerville area, including a 54-acre site at the intersection of Texas 130 and Texas 45.  The company has also signed a letter of intent to open a store where a current 100,000 sq.ft. Home Depot stands, which is located at the intersection of U.S. 183 and Great Hills Trail in Cedar Park.  In addition to Target, the company operates SuperTarget, which sells groceries and general merchandise, and Target Greatland

 

Mervyns, LLC (510-727-3000) is planning to open four Mervyns stores in October.  The stores will be located in San Jose and National City, CA as well as Gilbert, AZ and Brownsville, TX.  The stores will feature a brighter and more open format, which will include wider shopping aisles.  The new stores are the company’s plan to invest significant resources in its core markets.  In addition to name-brand apparel and housewares, Mervyns offers goods under private labels, including Hillard & Hanson.  The company currently operates 187 Mervyns stores throughout 10 states.

 

Red Robin Gourmet Burgers, Inc. (303-846-6000) is planning to open a Red Robin on Whittier Boulevard in Whittier, CA this month.  The company currently operates a chain of approximately 310 casual-dining restaurants throughout more than 30 U.S. states and Canada, all of which specialize in hamburgers, fries, salads, appetizers and more.  Its menu features more than 20 different twists on hamburgers, including, the Banzai Burger (marinated in teriyaki), the Pot Roast Burger and the Five Alarm Burger with jalapenos. The company’s signature Royal Red Robin Burger features bacon and a fried egg.  Red Robin also serves chicken, seafood, and turkey burgers, as well as vegetarian alternatives.
