Who's Opening & Where Clumpies, LLC (866-440-5425) is planning to open Clumpies stores in Hixson, TX and Birmingham, AL. The Hixson store will be located next to a Best Buy, while the Birmingham store will be in Crestline Village in the heart of the Mountain Brook, AL community. The company’s premium gourmet ice cream is made in batches of ten gallons at a time.
Hermes International (+33-1-40-17-49-20) will open its 16th Hermès boutique in Charlotte, NC this fall and disclosed plans for a store on Wall Street in New York, NY to open April 2007. Hermès plans to open a 3,000 sq.ft. store, with 2,000 sq.ft. of selling space, at the South Park Shopping Center in Charlotte, NC and a 5,000 sq.ft. unit, with 3,200 sq.ft. of selling space, on Wall Street. The company also plans to open two stores annually throughout the U.S. for the next five years, potentially in Seattle, WA; San Diego, CA; Scottsdale, AZ and Minneapolis, MN. Hermès makes and sells luxury goods in 14 categories, including leather goods, scarves, ties, watches, stationery, gloves, tableware, jewelry, perfume, men’s and women’s apparel and home goods. The company operates about 215 Hermès stores worldwide, half of which are company-owned. It also sells its goods through almost 40 other retail outlets.
Good Time Restaurants, Inc. (303-384-1400) is planning to open 10 additional Good Time restaurants during the balance of this year in CO, MO, ND and WY. Four of the restaurants are expected to be company-owned and operated and six will be developed under new franchise agreements, with a combination of both Good Time single brand stores and Good Times/Taco John’s co-branded stores. The company expects its next company-owned restaurants to open next month at Centerra Marketplace in Loveland, CO and on the 16th Street Mall in downtown Denver, CO. Another franchised restaurant is slated to open this month in Colorado Springs, CO. The chain is made up mostly of double drive-thru and walk-up eateries that feature a menu of burgers, fries, and frozen custards.
L.L. Bean, Inc. (207-865-4761) is planning to open a 30,000 sq.ft. L.L. Bean store at the Colonie Center Mall in Albany, NY. The company also plans on opening two stores in the greater Boston, MA area this spring. The outdoor apparel stores send out more than 200 million catalogs per year. L.L. Bean’s library includes about 10 specialty catalogs offering products in categories such as children’s, fly-fishing, outerwear, sportswear, housewares, footwear and camping and hiking gear.
Spec’s Wine Spirits & Finer Foods (713-526-8787) is planning to open three Spec’s stores in the Austin, TX area within a year’s time. The locations will include one in the Shops at Arbor Walk, one at Highway 290 and Brodie Lane and one near the Highland Mall in central Austin. The company is known for its big-box-style stores and endless aisles of wine-and-dine options.
Elie Tahari, Ltd. (631-329-8883) will open an Elie Tahari boutique at the 7,000 sq.ft. One Main Street building, located at the intersection of Main Street and Newtown Lane in East Hampton, NY.
IKEA International A/S (+46-42-267-100) is planning to open a 310,000 sq.ft. IKEA store at the Mall at Millenia in Orlando, FL. The store is expected to open during Fall 2007 and will be IKEA’s third unit in the Southeast. The company is currently building a 293,000 sq.ft. store in Sunrise, FL, which is expected to open Summer 2007. IKEA currently operates 235 locations in 34 countries, including 27 throughout the U.S. With the goal of opening three to five U.S. stores a year, the company, which sells Scandinavian-style home furnishings and other housewares, is planning to open stores in Brooklyn, NY; Canton, MI; Draper, UT; Dublin, CA; Portland, OR; Round Rock, TX and Somerville, MA.
Giant Food, LLC (781-380-8000) will open 10 Giant Food stores and remodel over a dozen older locations by the end of 2007. The newest prototype is located in Millville, DE and will include more customer-oriented features, such as expanded fresh produce departments, cheese bars with more than 70 varieties, sushi bars and in-store cafes and coffee bars. Giant operates 192 supermarkets in DE, MA, VA and Washington, DC. Included in those stores are 163 full-service pharmacies. Giant Food was the first U.S. supermarket chain to have computer-assisted checkouts in all of its stores in 1979 and was the first East Coast retail to test ScriptCenter, a kiosk allowing customers to pick up prescription refills even when the pharmacy is closed.
BankAtlantic Bancorp, Inc. (954-760-5000) has opened four BankAtlantic stores in the first quarter of this year, throughout southern FL. BankAtlantic is planning to open an additional 16 stores this year, for a total of 20 stores. In 2007, the company plans to open a total of 27 new stores. BankAtlantic has 80 stores and operates more than 200 ATMs. The stores are open seven days a week and offer holiday and extended weekday hours.
PETCO Animal Supplies, Inc. (858-453-7845) opened 21 PETCO stores during the first quarter of fiscal 2006, increasing its store base to 799 locations, and remodeled nine stores. The company is planning to open approximately 20 stores in the second quarter of this year and remodel approximately 35 stores for the full year.
Froots Smoothies, Shakes, Salads & Wraps (877-333-3766) is planning to open a Froots Smoothies store in the Old Town neighborhood of Chicago, IL along with locations in Evanston and Batavia, IL. Seven more stores are under development throughout Chicagoland in areas such as Plainfield, Gurnee and Taylor Street in Chicago, IL. Froots Smoothies offers a menu of gourmet smoothies, shakes, fresh-squeezed juices, salads and wraps.
Escape Enterprises, Ltd. (614-224-0300) opened a Steak Escape restaurant at The Mall at Turtle Creek in Jonesboro, AR, making it the sixth location in the state. Steak Escape will soon open six locations in CA and MS. The company currently operates 180 restaurants in 29 states. While known for its cheese steak sandwiches, the eateries also serve cold cuts sub sandwiches, salads and a variety of sides.
Belk, Inc. (704-357-1000) is planning to open a Belk department store at the Alliance Town Center in north Fort Worth, TX. The 96,000 sq.ft. store will be the first in Tarrant County and is one of four under construction in north TX. The company currently operates stores in McKinney and Waxahachie, TX and has stores under construction in Flower Mound, Rockwall and Mansfield, TX. Belk stores offer mid-priced brand name and private-label apparel, shoes, cosmetics, gifts, and home furnishings.
Cabela’s, Inc. (308-254-5505) is planning to open a 185,000 sq.ft. Cabela’s showroom in Hammond, IN. The showroom could be completed by late 2007 or early 2008 and will be Cabela’s first in the state. Cabela’s currently operates 14 locations nationwide. The company also announced plans to open stores in Boise, ID; La Vista, NE; Glendale, AZ and Richfield, WI this year; and Hazelwood, MO; Gonzales, LA; Reno, NV; Wheat Ridge, CO; East Rutherford, NJ; East Hartford, CT; Hoffman Estates, IL and Adairsville, GA in 2007. A Montreal, Quebec store is scheduled for early 2008. Cabela’s sells footwear, clothing, and gear for fishing, hunting, camping, and other outdoor activities.
Wild Oats Market, Inc. (303-440-5220) is planning to open eight stores opening this year. The company has signed 15 leases for new stores scheduled to open this year and in 2007. The retailer will open its next store in Vancouver, British Columbia. More stores are expected to open in mixed-use buildings and the company is looking to acquire 20 to 30 vacant grocery store sites. Wild Oats opened a Henry’s store in Carlsbad, CA during March and a Wild Oats store in Tampa, FL in April. The stores provide natural, organic, and traditional grocery items, as well as environmentally friendly household products.
Dunkin’ Brands, Inc. (781-737-3000) is planning to open 35 Baskin-Robbins stores in the next few years, as part of a nationwide expansion plan that includes opening 600 stores throughout the U.S. by 2009. Baskin-Robbins is a leading seller of ice cream and frozen snacks and operates 5,600 locations internationally and 2,700 throughout the U.S.
Planet Funk (877-234-3865) will open eight to 10 stores in CA this year. The company currently operates 13 stores in the Los Angeles, CA area in major malls such as Beverly Center, Westside Pavilion and Hollywood & Highland. Planet Funk carries clothing brands such as Rock & Republic, True Religion, Citizens of Humanity and Seven For All Mankind.
Lowe’s Cos., Inc. (704-758-1000) is planning to open a 170,000 sq.ft. Lowe’s Home Improvement store on Veterans Parkway in Cape Coral, FL. The company currently operates more than 1,250 superstores throughout 49 states and has announced plans to expand into Canada in 2007. The company’s stores sell about 40,000 products for do-it-yourselfers and professionals, such as gardening products, home fashion items, lumber, millwork, plumbing and electrical supplies, and tools, as well as appliances and furniture. |
