Who's Opening & Where


BI-LO, LLC (864-234-1600) is planning to open a Super Bi-Lo store on Cherry Road in Rock Hill, SC. The space was formerly occupied by the Rock Hill Mall. The company currently operates approximately 300 supermarkets throughout GA, NC, SC and TN. Many of BI-LO’s supermarkets offer pharmacies and some offer Starbucks Café kiosks. Brands include national names, the BI-LO private-label banner, Finast health and beauty products and Southern Hearth Bakery items.

Garden Ridge Pottery (832-391-7444) is planning to open a store at the intersection of Gessner and Texas 249 in the Willowbrook, TX area. The store will be located in a 134,465 sq.ft. space formerly occupied by Sears The Great Indoors. Garden Ridge Pottery plans to renovate the space and open later this year. The company signed a 15-year lease with Sears for the entire building. Garden Ridge currently operates in four Houston, TX-area locations. The Willowbrook store will be the fifth. Area retail includes Costco, Circuit City, PetSmart, Pier 1 Imports, REI, Golf Galaxy, Office Depot, AMC Theatres and Linens ‘n Things.

C.C. Filson Co. (206-622-3147) is planning to open a 2,600 sq.ft. Filson store on Filmore Street in Denver, CO. The store will be located among the Cherry Creek North retail district’s upscale apparel stores. Opening is slated for July. The Filson company makes and sells outdoor clothing from underwear and socks to coats, pants, shirts, boots and vests for hunting and fishing. It also sells accessories, such as luggage (including gun and fishing rod cases), belts, hats and sunglasses. The Denver store will be the company’s second location. It also operates a 109-year-old store in Seattle, WA.

 

McDonald’s Corp. (630-623-3000) is planning to open a McDonald’s restaurant at the intersection of North Green Mount Road and Frank Scott Parkway in Shiloh, IL. The company currently operates more than 31,800 flagship restaurants serving burgers and fries in more than 100 countries. Almost 30% of its locations are company-owned, while the others are run by franchisees. While most of the company’s eateries are freestanding locations, it does have some quick-service kiosk units. McDonald’s also owns the Boston Market fast-casual chain and has a minority interest in the United Kingdom sandwich chain Pret A Manger.

Joey’s Seafood Grill (651-204-5702) is planning to open a restaurant in Altoona, PA. The space was formerly occupied by Midas Muffler. Opening is slated for July. The Altoona restaurant will be the company’s first location in PA, but Joey’s is looking to open restaurants in State College and Johnstown. The company currently operates 16 Joey’s locations throughout the U.S., with more than 90 locations planned to open in the Midwest, southern and eastern U.S. The restaurants are located in Conway, AR;  Escondido, CA; Lake Wales, FL; McDonough, GA; Boise, ID; Houghton and Grand Rapids, MI; Apple Valley and Woodbury, MN; O’Fallon, Cape Girardeau, Columbia and Creve Coeur, MO; Omaha, NE; two locations in Las Vegas, NV; Longview, TX; Olympia, WA and in WI.

Rental Service Corp. (800-222-7777) is planning to open 12 RSC stores during the coming three months and plans on opening as many as 20 rental stores later this year and in early 2007. The newest stores will open in AL, AR, IL, LA, MO, OH, OR and TX. The 20 additional stores will open nationwide and in Canada. The company currently operates 470 stores.

Too, Inc. (614-775-3500) is planning to open between 65 and 70 Justice stores nationwide this year. The company recently opened its 100th

 Justice store at the Pinnacle at Turkey Creek in Knoxville, TN. Justice has plans on expanding to over 800 stores nationwide. The company’s Limited Too chain operates approximately 575 stores throughout 46 states and Puerto Rico and offers apparel, shoes, accessories, cosmetics, and even furnishings to trendy “tween” girls between the ages of seven and 14. In 2003, Too discontinued its Goldmark operations and closed its chain of stores in favor of its newer concept stores called Justice, which are also aimed at “tween” girls. In addition Too sells through its Web site and through “catazines” (catalogs with editorial content).

Costco Wholesale Corp. (425-313-8100) is planning to open a 160,000 sq.ft. Costco store with a gas station in Kapolei, HI. It would be the fourth Costco store on O’ahu. The proposed site is located on a land area of more than 13 acres. The company currently operates O’ahu locations in Iwilei, Waipi’o and Hawai’I Kai, while also operating locations on the Big Island and in Maui. The company currently operates approximately 470 membership warehouse stores serving 45 million cardholders throughout 37 U.S. states and Puerto Rico, Canada, Japan, Mexico, South Korea, Taiwan, and the United Kingdom, primarily under the Costco Wholesale name. Stores offer discount prices on, on average, 4,000 products (many in bulk packaging), ranging from alcoholic beverages and appliances to fresh food and tires.

 

Cabela’s, Inc. (308-254-5505) is planning to open a 165,000 sq.ft. Cabela’s store near Interstate 75 and Georgia Highway 140 at the Union Grove Interchange in Adairsville, GA. The store would be located on a land area of approximately 40 acres. The store would be the company’s first in GA and its first in the southeastern U.S. It would be considered a Tier 1 store, built in Cabela’s trademark style. Some stores are as big as 250,000 sq.ft. and include such features as waterfalls, mountain replicas and aquariums. Cabela’s sells footwear, clothing, and gear for fishing, hunting and camping  activities. Cabela’s currently operates 14 locations nationwide. Other stores are slated to open this year in Boise, ID; La Vista, NE; Glendale, AZ; Richfield, WI and Hazelwood, MO. Next year, the company is planning to open stores in Gonzales, LA; Reno, NV; Wheat Ridge, CO; East Rutherford, NJ; East Hartford, CT and Hoffman Estates, IL. In late 2007 or early 2008, the company is looking to open a store in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

Hardee’s Food Systems, Inc. (314-259-6200) is planning to open a Hardee’s restaurant in Jonesboro, AR. The restaurant will be located near The Mall at Turtle Creek, Popeyes Fried Chicken and Andy’s Frozen Custard.  Hardee’s Food Systems currently operates approximately 2,000 locations throughout more than 30 states. The chain offers a variety of premium-priced Angus beef hamburgers. The chain is located primarily in the Midwest and Southeast; about a third of the restaurants are operated by the company, while the rest are franchised. Hardee’s is a subsidiary of fast food giant CKE Restaurants.
