Who's Opening and Where 2nd Ave Value Stores (215-639-6930) is planning to open more locations in MD, NJ, PA and VA. The company currently operates five thrift store locations in the Philadelphia, PA area. Most recently, the company opened a 25,000 sq.ft. store in Franklin Marketplace on Franklin Mills Boulevard in northeast Philadelphia. The company had previously traded as Village Thrift Stores.
Bakers Delight (604-685-9988) is planning to open its first U.S. store during March in Seattle, WA. The Australia-based company is also looking to expand in New Zealand with two more bakeries planned for this year. The company also currently operates 38 stores in Canada, where it trades as COBS Bread.
Barnes & Noble, Inc. (972-892-4208) is planning to open a location at the Harrisburg Mall in Harrisburg, PA this year. Opening of the 23,000 sq.ft. bookstore is slated for November. The site is a former Waldenbooks.
Publix Super Markets, Inc. (863-688-1188) is planning to open location in Atlanta, GA at the intersection of Howell Mill Road and Collier Road during summer 2007. The site is a former Save-Rite and will be the latest of several Publix openings in Atlanta, including locations on Spring Street, Princeton Lakes and in suburbs such as Douglasville and Locust Grove. The company operates 900 stores, including 166 in GA.
Raving Brands! (404-805-0917) is planning to open 2,000 Shane’s Rib Shack restaurants by 2020 nationwide, including 60 this year. There are currently 40 locations in eight states, mostly in the South. The company plans to open three more in Phoenix, AZ, where it currently operates one Shane’s Rib Shack. Four are planned for Columbus, OH and the Kansas City, MO area is being studied as well. Openings are also planned for IA and MD.
Costco Wholesale Corp. (425-313-8100) is planning to open a 154,000 sq.ft. location at the Gateway Center in Woodland, CA during March 2008. The store will be the first built according to the company’s larger prototype.
Teavana Corp. (877-374-6583) is planning to expand to 200 Teavana stores by 2008. The company operates 50 stores, which specialize in exotic teas and tea accessories.
Liborio Markets (626-564-1100) is planning to open five Rancho Liborio markets this year, including a 65,000 sq.ft. location in Colorado Springs, CO on Monterey Road during May. The store will be the largest in the company’s chain. The company operates six Liborio Market locations in CA and NV. The chain, which caters to a Hispanic clientele, plans to open stores in Westminster, Thornton and either Greeley or Lakewood, CO this year.
Staples, Inc. (508-253-5000) is opening a store in Mesa, AZ on South Signal Butte Road. The office supply store will be the company’s sixth in Mesa.
Martin’s Super Markets, Inc. (574-234-5848) is planning to open a store in Nappanee, IN on East Market Street. The 51,000 sq.ft. location is slated to open summer 2007.
Melt Franchising, LLC (949-707-0456) is opening a franchisee-owned Melt Gelato & Crepe Café in St. Louis, MO. There are currently 16 franchised stores in four states. The company is looking to expand in AZ, CA, CT, FL, IL, MA, MO, NJ, NV, NY, PA and WA. The quick-service restaurants serve Italian gelato and sorbetto, crepes, Italian café and smoothies.
Camping World, Inc. (270-781-2718) is planning to open 20 to 25 stores this year, with a goal of having 100 stores in operation by 2008. The company is opening three stores in the metro Atlanta, GA market, specifically Oakwood, Snellville and Woodstock. Each store is co-located with Camping Time RV. The Snellville store is the largest at 9,200 sq.ft., while the Oakwood and Woodstock stores are 2,900 sq.ft. The company currently operates 63 Camping World stores.
The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf (310-815-2500) is planning to open 50 company-owned stores, 60 locations inside Ralph’s Grocery Stores and has intentions to expand into other countries. The company plans to open custom-designed Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf kiosks in Ralph’s Grocery Stores throughout CA this year. The company is also planning to expand into three more countries outside the U.S., bringing the total number of countries in which it operates to 19. The company currently operates 450 locations in 16 countries, offering roasted coffees, specialty teas, baked goods and blended ice drinks.
Kroger Co. (513-782-3463) is planning to open its third Kroger store in Morgantown, WV at Suncrest Town Center. The 86,000 sq.ft. grocery store, which will include a pharmacy and fuel center, is opening during spring 2008. Other Morgantown Kroger locations are on Patterson Drive and Route 7.
Borders, Inc. (732-477-1100) is opening a 22,169 sq.ft. store in Fort Myers, FL during March. The store will be located at Gulf Coast Town Center at the intersection of Interstate 75 and Alico Road. The company currently operates more than 500 Borders Superstore locations in the U.S.
Family Dollar Stores, Inc. (704-814-3576) is planning to open three stores in SC within the first two months of the year. The stores will be located on U.S. Highway 501 in Aynor, U.S. Highway 521 in Greeleyville and U.S. Highway 301 in Turbeville. Most recently, the company opened a store in Bowman, SC on Charleston Highway. The company operates 6,000 stores in 44 states.
RedBrick Pizza Worldwide, Inc. (661-722-5895) is planning to expand to 12,000 units by 2016. The company currently operates 60 RedBrick Pizza locations. The restaurants offer gourmet pizzas baked in stone-hearth, gas-flame ovens as well as its pizza dough sandwiches and 12 homemade gelatos. Each booth has its own TV and barstools line the kitchen counter for customers to watch their food being made.
Nespresso (800-562-1465) is planning to open boutique bars in Los Angeles, CA and Toronto, Canada. The company recently opened its first Nespresso Boutique Bar in North America in New York, NY on Madison Avenue. The company manufactures pre-portioned coffee and espresso machines and operates 50 boutiques worldwide. The 2,700 sq.ft. NY location is one of four with an espresso bar.
O’Reilly Automotive (417-862-3333) is planning to expand to 185 to 190 stores this year. The company currently operates 1,615 stores in 26 states with three to four new locations opening each week, on average.
Nine West Group, Inc. (914-640-6400) is expanding worldwide, including opening stores in Russia, Vietnam and Japan. The company opened a new boutique format with specially selected products, including footwear, accessories and handbags to be located in premier fashion districts worldwide. The first of these stores opened in Tokyo and is the company’s Japanese flagship store. Openings are planned for Hanoi, Vietnam and several in Russia, including in Moscow, two in St. Petersburg and one in Nizhny Novogorad.
Rite Aid Corp. (717-761-2633) is planning to open 110 new and relocated stores during this fiscal year. The company had originally planned to open 125, but had to lower the number due to entitlement and permit delays. In the third quarter of 2006, the company opened 10 stores, relocated 13, closed three and remodeled four. The company is also looking to acquire the U.S. Eckerd and Brooks chains, which would raise its overall store count to 5,170. Rite Aid currently operates 3,322 stores in 27 states, making it the third-ranked drug store chain behind Walgreens and CVS.
7 For All Mankind (323-406-5300) is planning to open five stores in the second half of 2007. The company manufactures premium denim, which is sold at Barneys, Ron Herman and Neiman Marcus, as well as specialty boutiques in more than 80 countries.
United Supermarkets, Inc. (806-791-0220) is planning to open two Market Street grocery locations in Allen and Frisco, TX. The Allen store would be located at the Watters Creek at Montgomery Farms development, occupying a space of 65,000 sq.ft. to 68,000 sq.ft. Opening is slated for 2008. The Frisco location will consist of 65,000 sq.ft. and will open in the fall. With the Allen and Frisco stores, United Supermarkets operates eight Market Street groceries.
Gucci American, Inc. (212-826-2600) is planning to open its largest store in the world on Fifth Avenue in New York, NY. The 45,000 sq.ft., three-level store will be located in the Trump Tower and will open in 2008, occupying the former Avon Centre Salon Spa and Store and a vacant Asprey flagship. The Fifth Avenue store will replace the company’s existing 33,000 sq.ft. location on Fifth Avenue. The new store will feature Gucci’s line of products, VIP services and a jewelry boutique in a 2,500 sq.ft. space on the first and second floors with its own entrance. |
