Who's Opening and Where


Juice It Up (949-475-0146) is planning to open 55 locations annually. The stores offer smoothies, power shakes, Brazilian blends, nectars, fresh-squeezed juice and coffees and teas. The company currently operates 124 stores throughout AZ, CA, FL, TN, TX and WA.

 

Hospitality USA Management Group (713-468-1787) opened its eighth Houston, TX Baker St. Pub & Grill location. The British-themed pub and restaurant is located on Waterway Avenue.  The company operates nine units in CO, OK and TX.  Future openings are slated for Denver, CO and Tampa, FL.

 

Peter Piper Pizza, Inc. (480-609-6400), recently acquired by ACON Investments, is planning to open 20 restaurants this year. Expansion will include company-owned restaurants throughout AZ and TX and franchised units in select markets, including six in Mexico. The company and its franchisees operate 132 restaurants in AZ, CA, NM, NV, TX and Mexico.

 

AFC Enterprises, Inc. (404-459-4450) is planning to open 85 to 105 Popeye’s Chicken & Biscuits restaurants during fiscal year 2007. The company is also planning to re-open two to three locations in New Orleans, LA. Popeye’s operates 1,878 restaurants currently in the U.S. and internationally.

 

WineStyles (954-984-0070) opened its first Thousand Oaks, CA store on North Moorpark Road at Janss Marketplace. Each WineStyles store features more than 170 world-class wines from unique labels, labels exclusive to WineStyles and hard-to-find wines. In addition to wines, the stores offer gift baskets and wine-related items, as well as weekly tastings. Customers can also join the WineStyles Wine Club where the chief wine taster selects two bottles of wine monthly. The franchised concept operates 57 locations in AZ, CA, FL, GA, IA, IL, IN, MN, MO, NE, OH, SC, TX, VA, WA, WI and Mexico City.

 

Mothers Work, Inc. (215-873-2200) is planning to open 40 to 50 Destination Maternity superstores and 70 to 80 Mimi combo stores during the coming years. During fiscal 2007, the company plans to open 15 to 20 stores, including eight to 12 multi-brand stores. In addition, the company plans to open 100 to 125 leased department locations, mostly in Boscov’s and Gordmans, and its Oh Baby! line at Kohl’s. Mothers Work operates 1,594 maternity locations, including 807 stores under the trade names Motherhood Maternity, A Pea in the Pod, Mimi Maternity and Destination Maternity.

 

Lowe’s Cos., Inc. (800-445-6937) is planning to open five stores in Mexico during 2009, including three to five in Monterrey, to compete with Home Depot, Inc. The company also plans to open a 100,000 sq.ft. home improvement store in Haverhill, MA, which is slated to open this fall at the Broadway Business Park located on Computer Drive.  The store will be joined by Target. Lowe’s operates 1,375 stores in the U.S. and also plans to open six to 10 stores in Toronto, Canada.

 

Stage Stores (800-743-8730) is planning to open a Peebles department store in Millington and Covington, TN and a Stage store is planned for West Memphis, TN during mid- to late April. The company is planning to open 70 stores total this year. In Millington, the 17,500 sq.ft. Peebles will be located at a former grocery store site on U.S. 51 and will coanchor with Fred’s.  In Covington, the 15,000 sq.ft. Peebles will be located in a portion of a former Wal*Mart store on U.S. 51. The 16,000 sq.ft. Stage store will be located on West Broadway in West Memphis at a site that formerly housed Wal*Mart, Bud’s and a flea market. Stage Stores operates 656 stores in 33 states, also trading as Bealls and Palais Royal. Last year, the company opened 106 stores.

 

Burlington Coat Factory Direct Corp. (609-387-7800) is planning to open an 86,027 sq.ft. store in Flint, MI at the Genesee Valley shopping center. The company is relocating to the center from  Genesee Crossing. The new location will be two stories and is the site of a former Mervyn’s department store. The company operates 350 stores in 42 states and was acquired last year by Bain Capital Partners.

Nike, Inc. (800-344-6453) is planning to open specialty stores of 3,500 sq.ft. to 4,000 sq.ft. in U.S. malls using center court locations this year. The company plans to directly compete with stand-alone Puma and Skechers stores.

 

G.I. Joe’s, Inc. (503-682-2242) is planning to add 15 stores during the next three years. The new markets include Boise, ID; Salt Lake City, UT and Spokane, WA. The company currently operates 25 stores in OR and WA.

 

D.O.G. Development, LLC (866-358-2267) is planning to open 30 Camp Bow Wow dog-sitting camps during the quarter. By year’s end the company expects to have 80 camps operating. The company has 28 franchise agreements in 28 states and Canada and currently operates 30 camps.

 

The Gander Mountain Co. (651-325-4300) is planning to open 12 stores this year. The stores will now offer Tracker Marine boat brands, such as Tracker, Fisher, Sun Tracker, Nitro, ProCraft, Tahoe, Mako and Kenner Bay. There are currently 105 Gander Mountain stores in 22 states selling hunting, fishing, camping, marine and outdoor lifestyle products and services.

 

Cosi, Inc. (847-444-3200) is planning to open 14 company-owned restaurants and 45 to 55 franchised locations this year. The restaurants offer sandwiches, tossed salads, Warm ‘N Cosi Melts, soups, bagels, pizzas, snacks, desserts and coffee. The company currently operates 110 company-owned and 13 franchised restaurants in 16 states and Washington, DC.

 

Wal*Mart Stores, Inc. (800-925-6278) is planning to open a neighborhood market in Middletown, KY at Blakenbaker Plaza. The store will be located at the site of a former Winn-Dixie and former Buehler store at the intersection of Shelbyville Road and Blakenbaker Parkway. A Wal*Mart Supercenter is located nearby. The 53,000 sq.ft. store will open during mid-summer and will be the company’s fourth grocery outlet in the Louisville area, including a location on Poplar Level Road which is slated to open during March. A fifth location is planned for the intersection of Dixie Highway and Lower Hunter’s Trace. In addition, the company is also planning to open a Wal*Mart in Randallstown, MD at Liberty Plaza.

 

MAPCO Express (615-771-6701) is planning to open nine MAPCO Marts and will retrofit 10 existing stores as MAPCO Marts. The company currently operates 392 convenience stores throughout AL, AR, GA, KY, LA, MS, TN and VA. The Mart concept originated in 2005 as an upscale, food service-oriented format that includes Extreme Caffeine, a hyper-caffeinated coffee.

Famima Corp. (310-214-1001) is planning to open 250 Famima!! Asian convenience food stores nationwide by 2009.

 

7-Eleven, Inc. (214-828-7011) is planning to open 900 stores in North America by 2010 through acquisitions. The company acquired White Hen Pantry and its 206 franchised stores in Chicago, IL. In addition, 7-Eleven acquired 10 McKee Oil Co. stores in UT.

 

Costco Wholesale Corp. (425-313-8100) is planning to open a location in Middleton, WI at Discovery Springs. The 150,000 sq.ft. wholesale store is slated to open this fall.

 

The Sports Authority (303-200-5050) is planning to open a location in San Luis Obispo, CA during May.  The sporting goods retailer will open at the site of the former Copeland Sports.  In November 2006, The Sports Authority acquired 12 Copeland Sports locations and will open a location in Medford, OR at the end of this month.

 

American Girl (608-836-4848) is planning to open American Girl Boutique and Bistro locations in Galleria Dallas in Dallas, TX and at the North Point Mall in Atlanta, GA.  The new concept will carry the company’s dolls, outfits, accessories and books and will also feature a doll hair salon, a bistro serving brunch, lunch and dinner, as well as individual party rooms.  The store location in Dallas will be 22,500 sq.ft. and the store location in Atlanta will be 12,000 sq.ft. with both scheduled to open later this year.  The company currently operates entertainment and retail concepts in Los Angeles, CA; Chicago, IL and New York, NY.

 

Home Depot (770-433-8211) is planning to open a location at Brush Avenue south of the Bruckner Interchange in Bronx, NY.  The building supply retailer will occupy a space of 135,000 sq.ft.  The company currently operates two locations in the area on Gun Hill Road and Zerega Avenue. 

 

Old Navy (800-333-7899) is planning to open a location at The Renaissance Center at Southpoint in Durham, NC.  The 320,000 sq.ft. center is located at Fayetteville Road across from The Streets at Southpoint. The 15,500 sq.ft. discount apparel store is scheduled to open during summer 2007. This will be the company’s second location in Durham, with the other located in New Hope Commons off Chapel Hill Boulevard. 

 

Swoozie’s (866-796-6943) is planning to open a location at The Renaissance Center at Southpoint in Durham, NC. The gift and stationary store will occupy a space of 5,500 sq.ft. and is scheduled to open during summer 2007.
