Family Pharmacy (417-581-4335) is planning to open two pharmacies this year, with plans to equip all stores with drive-thru access by next year. The new locations will occupy 3,700 sq.ft. making them the largest stores in the chain. The company operates 13 locations in small towns throughout southwestern MO with stores occupying, on average, 3,000 sq.ft. to 3,600 sq.ft.

 

Army & Navy Department Store (604-683-9660) is planning to open a store annually during the next five years. The Canada-based stores offer apparel, hardware, hunting and fishing supplies, toys and house wares. The stores’ average size is 60,000 sq.ft.

 

Muji (212-767-1050 or 646-613-1367) is planning to open two stores in New York, NY between July and December. Owned by Ryohin Keikaku Co., the locations will be the company’s first in the U.S. The stores offer apparel, home furnishings, stationary and art supplies. The company is selling products at the design store of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, NY. The company operates 50 stores internationally, including Taiwan, Spain, France, Sweden, Norway, Italy, Germany, Ireland, Hong Kong, Singapore and China. In Japan, the company operates 153 stores.

Costco Wholesale Corp. (425-313-8100) is planning to open 35 stores in the U.S. and Canada with a goal of doubling its store count to 960 locations. The stores average 140,000 sq.ft. and are located in 37 states and in Canada, Puerto Rico, Japan, Mexico, South Korea and Taiwan and the U.K. The company operates 1,175 warehouses in the U.S. and 70 in Canada.

 

Yelo (212-245-8235) is planning to open 50 wellness center locations in major cities, including San Francisco, CA; Chicago, IL and London, England. The company operates one 1,800 sq.ft. flagship location on West 57th Street in New York, NY. The center has seven 60 sq.ft. private cabins, called Yelo cabs, where customers relax for 20 to 40 minutes, selecting the lighting and music, while services include reflexology and aromatherapy. There is also a 500 sq.ft. retail area, selling brands such as Sprayology; Jane, Inc. and Flare.

 

Dave’s Quality Meat (212-505-7551) is planning to open satellite locations, starting in New York, NY. The store offers sneakers, T-shirts, hats and skateboards, including brands such as Nike, Adidas, Vans and Converse, as well as its own brand, DQM.

The 400 (303-446-0400) is opening a third location in Curtis Park, CO and is planning to open future stores outside of Denver, CO. Most recently, the company opened a location in the Lakewood neighborhood of Denver with a new format that includes six boutiques selling vinyl toys, apparel, jewelry, art and Japanese imports. The stores specialize in sneakers, including lines from Adidas, Nike, New Balance, Puma, Ethnies, Gravis and Vans.

 

Jill Stuart (212-921-2600) is planning to open 20 to 30 ladies apparel stores in the U.S. and Europe during the next three years. In addition, the company plans to open Jill Stuart stores in the Middle East this year. In the U.S., the company is eyeing sites in Los Angeles, CA; Boston, MA and Las Vegas, NV. The company operates 140 stores worldwide.

 

Northern Tool + Equipment (952-894-9510) is planning to have 150 stores in operation by 2015. This year, the company is looking to expand into IL, KS, MO and OK. The company operates 61 stores throughout the Upper Midwest and Southeast. The stores are smaller than Home Depot and Lowe’s Home Improvement, but larger than neighborhood hardware stores.

Sephora USA, Inc. (415-284-3300) is opening two cosmetics stores in Memphis, TN this year. Openings are planned for The Avenue Carriage Crossing and Wolfchase Galleria. These stores will join the company’s only TN location, in Nashville at The Mall at Green Hills. The stores offer 250 brands of makeup, skin care, beauty and bath accessories.

 

Supervalu, Inc. (952-828-4000) is planning to open a Festival Foods location in Appleton, WI this summer. The 84,695 sq.ft. store is a former Cub Foods location and will be the second Festival Foods location in the area.

 

Wal*Mart Stores, Inc. (800-925-6278) is planning to open 15 to 20 Neighborhood Market locations during the next year. The stores average 39,000 sq.ft. and have been revamped with a newly designed store opening in Tulsa, OK most recently. The store features delineated departments, with a larger selection of fresh foods. The company is also planning to open a Wal*Mart Supercenter in Jefferson, NY during spring 2008. The store will be located on Highway 26 and will combine the discount store with a full-service grocery, as well as a tire and lube express and lawn and garden center.

Menards, Inc. (715-876-5911) is planning to open a 225,000 sq.ft. store in Moorhead, MN during this fall. The company currently operates 200 stores nationwide.

 

Trader Joe’s (626-599-3700) plans to open a second location in Oakland, CA on College Avenue, joining a Lakeshore Avenue store slated to open during spring or summer. The Oakland store will occupy about 14,000 sq.ft. of a 23,000 sq.ft. building, with the remaining space to be subleased. The company has been expanding throughout the Bay Area recently, with store openings in Walnut Creek and Brentwood and others being planned.

 

Kohl’s Department Stores (262-703-7000) is planning to open a store at Kingsport Pavilion, a proposed shopping center in Kingston, TN slated to open during October. The store will be located on East Stone Road. Kohl’s will join Target, which will occupy 127,000 sq.ft. at the center.

 

Eddie Bauer (425-755-6100) is planning to open a store at Pinnacle Hills Promenade, a 980,000 sq.ft. lifestyle center located in Rogers, AR. The outdoor clothing retailer operates 380 stores throughout North America.

 

Wet Seal, Inc. (949-699-3900) is planning to open 65 stores this year, under the Wet Seal and Arden B. names. The company has signed 20 leases and had 20 more approved so far this year. The company operates 93 Arden B. stores, which target women from 20 years old and up, and 336 Wet Seal stores, which target teenage girls.

 

Dillard’s, Inc. (501-376-5200) is planning to open a store at The Forum at Ashley Park in Newnan, GA during September. The two-story location will occupy 203,000 sq.ft. and will be located behind Dick’s Sporting Goods.

 

Lambertson Truex (212-604-9494) is planning to open its first freestanding stores, beginning during April with openings in Los Angeles, CA and New York, NY. The company plans to open six to eight stores in North America during the next five years in cities such as San Francisco, CA; Chicago, IL; Boston, MA and Las Vegas, NV. The luxury accessories stores carry handbags priced from $3,000 to $5,000 and exotic skin pieces that are priced up to $16,000. The 2,200 sq.ft. Los Angeles store will be located on Melrose Place and the 1,800 sq.ft. two-story New York store will be located on Madison Avenue.
