Who's Opening and Where


Venus Swimwear, Inc. (904-645-6000) is planning to open stores in Fort Myers and St. Petersburg, FL by May. The company currently operates one store at the St. Johns Town Center in Jacksonville, FL. The new stores will occupy 3,200 sq.ft., which is 50% larger than the current store. The company also sells swimwear through its Web site and catalog.

 

Lowe’s Cos., Inc. (800-445-6937) is planning to open a location at the site of the former Lake Forest Plaza in New Orleans, LA. The store will anchor an open-air, pedestrian-friendly shopping center that will include a 225,000 sq.ft. discount retailer and 100,000 sq.ft. department store. The Lowe’s Home Improvement store will sit on a land area of 14 acres.

 

Pei Wei Asian Diner, Inc. (480-888-3000) is planning to open a restaurant at University North Park in Norman, OK. The restaurants offer Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai and Vietnamese cuisine with take-out available. Area retailers include Circuit City, Super Target, Starbucks, Office Depot, Petco, Rack Room Shoes, Dress Barn and Maurice’s.

 

Coach, Inc. (212-594-1850) is planning to open five stores in AZ, nearly tripling its store count in the area. The AZ openings are part of the company’s plan to open 40 stores this year. This summer, the company will open a location at Arrowhead Towne Center in Glendale, followed by a store at Biltmore Fashion Park in Phoenix. The company will be opening three stores in malls currently under development, including Estrella Falls in Goodyear, Palisene in Phoenix and SanTan Village in Gilbert, which will open this fall. The company currently operates three stores in Phoenix, at Chandler Fashion Center, Scottsdale Fashion Square and Kierland Commons, in addition to a store in Tucson.

 

Target Corp. (800-440-0680) is opening a Super Target in Bossier City, LA at a 600,000 sq.ft. shopping center located at the intersection of Interstate 220 and Airline Drive. Other retailers joining Super Target include PetSmart, Best Buy, Belk, Ross Dress for Less, Bed Bath & Beyond, Haverty’s, PJ’s Coffee, Shoe Carnival, T.J. Maxx, Kohl’s and Chick-fil-A. A July opening is scheduled.

 

Benihana, Inc. (800-327-3369) is opening a 7,000 sq.ft. Japanese restaurant at the Dulles Town Center Mall in Loudon County, VA.
It will be the company’s first VA restaurant
and will join The Cheesecake Factory.

 

O’Charley’s, Inc. (615-256-8500) is planning to open four to six company-operated O’Charley’s restaurants, three to five Ninety Nine restaurants and one to two Stoney River Legendary Steaks restaurants during this fiscal year. In addition, the company expects to initiate remodeling of 20 to 30 O’Charley’s and Ninety Nine locations. In all, the company operates 362 restaurants under the three brand names, including 238 O’Charley’s locations in 18 states in the Southeast and Midwest offering steak, seafood, chicken, yeast rolls, salads and caramel pie. There are 114 Ninety Nine locations in operation throughout CT, MA, ME, NH, NJ, NY, PA, RI and VT offering appetizers, salads, sandwiches, burgers, entrees and desserts. The company operates 10 Stoney River locations throughout GA, IL, KY, MO, OH and TN offering moderately-priced steakhouse fare.

 

Bass Pro Shops (417-873-5200) is planning to open a store in Leeds, AL during November 2008. The store will occupy 165,000 sq.ft. and is situated on 109 acres. Groundbreaking is slated for this fall. The company currently operates 38 sporting goods stores in 23 states and Canada.

 

Publix Super Markets (863-688-1188) is considering opening a Publix grocery in Jacksonville Beach, FL at the site of a former B.B. McCormick lumberyard on Third Street. The 29,000 sq.ft. site will join the company’s other location in Jacksonville, on Riverside Avenue. The company operates 850 stores in the southern U.S. The company is also opening a store at Rio Pinar Plaza in Orlando, FL that will replace a smaller Publix which is being redeveloped for inline retail stores as part of an upgrade of the center. The 45,600 sq.ft. store will anchor the 118,000 sq.ft. center, which is slated to open this summer. The store will feature bakery, deli, floral and seafood departments in addition to a full-service pharmacy.

 

Stater Bros. Markets (909-783-5000) is planning to open 10 stores annually beginning during summer 2008. The company currently operates 162  supermarkets and plans to have 235 in operation by 2015.

 

Firehouse Restaurant Group, Inc. (800-388-FIRE) is planning to expand its Firehouse Subs restaurant count to 360 locations in 17 states by the end of the year. This year, restaurants are planned for AZ, KY, NV and OH. A Las Vegas, NV location is slated to open during April.  In addition, the company plans to open 40 franchises in the MD, VA and Washington, DC areas during the next five years.

 

Sport Chalet, Inc. (818-790-9800) is planning to open six to eight stores this year, in addition to remodeling two others. The new locations will be located in AZ and southern CA, with one opening in UT. In addition, the company will also be combining four Sport Chalet stores serving the La Canada Flintridge, CA market into one 45,000 sq.ft. store to be located at the proposed La Canada Flintridge Town Center. The La Canada Flintridge location is scheduled to open next year. Sport Chalet operates 45 locations throughout AZ, CA and NV.

 

Kohl’s Department Stores (262-703-7000) is planning to open a store in Las Cruces, NM this year. Potential sites include North Main Street, near Lowe’s Home Improvement. Locally, the company operates two stores in Albuquerque and two in El Paso, TX. Nationwide, the company operates 817 stores in 45 states. The company is also planning to open a store in Mount Pleasant, SC at The Market at Oakland during the fall. The store will join Wal*Mart Supercenter in the center located at the intersection of U.S. Highway 17 and Porcher’s Bluff Road.

 

Salad Creations (954-590-2467) is planning to open 40 franchised locations in 12 states, including HI through a local franchisee. Restaurants are planned for Honolulu and at Koko Marina Center in Hawaii Kai, with long-term plans including 50 stores throughout the state during the next seven years. In addition, the franchisee is planning to open four to five stores in Oahu
by the end of the year. The company
currently operates 10 units, including
four in FL.

 

Katz Group of Cos. (780-990-0505)
opened a Rexall drug store prototype
with the chain’s first drive-thru pharmacy in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The company plans to expand the Rexall
Drive-Thru
prototype throughout Canada. The 11,000 sq.ft. drug store joins
prototypes in British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Alberta, Manitoba and Ontario. The company operates 1,800 corporately-owned, franchise and independent pharmacies across North America. In Canada, the stores operate under the names Rexall Drug Stores, Pharma Plus, Rexall Pharma Plus, The Medicine Shoppe, Guardian, I.D.A., Herbies and Meditrust Pharmacy. In MN, the company is the parent of Snyder’s Drug Stores.
