Williams-Sonoma, Inc. (415-421-7900) is planning to open 30,000 sq.ft. Pottery Barn stores this year. The larger format, up from current stores size of 11,000 sq.ft., is being tested as a means to revitalize the Pottery Barn brand. The company is also looking to open five to six West Elm stores this year.

Zpizza (949-719-3800) is planning to open over 100 locations by the end of 2008. The fast-casual pizzerias offer health-conscious pizza, salad and gourmet sandwiches.

Cotton Patch Café (972-929-0252) is planning to open a restaurant at the Quail Creek Crossing shopping center located at the intersection of Maplewood and Lawrence in Wichita Falls, TX. The restaurants typically occupy spaces of 5,500 sq.ft. to 6,000 sq.ft. and specialize in Texas-style food. The company currently operates locations throughout TX with one location in Clovis, NM.

Tandy Leather Factory, Inc. (817-496-4414) opened a Tandy Leather Factory store on Northland Boulevard in Cincinnati, OH this month. The stores are a specialty retailer and wholesale distributor of products including leather, leatherworking tools, buckles, leather dyes and finishes and saddle and tack hardware. The company plans to open 12 stores during the year and currently operates 65 locations.

Books-A-Million, Inc. (205-942-3737) is planning to open a Books-A-Million store in Prattville, AL at the Prattville Town Center located on Cobbs Ford Road. The company currently operates 25 locations throughout AL and over 200 locations nationwide in 29 states. The company operates under three store formats: The 20,000 sq.ft. Books-A-Million Superstores, featuring a wide variety of books, magazines, cards and gifts, as well as a Joe Muggs Café, offering gourmet coffee, espresso, teas and desserts; the 3,500 sq.ft. to 4,500 sq.ft. Bookland shops, operating primarily in malls and featuring a full selection of books and magazines and also featuring a card and gift department and the 3,000 sq.ft. Joe Muggs Newsstands, featuring a Joe Muggs Café and a newsstand selection of magazines, newspapers and best sellers.

Perry Ellis International (305-592-2830) is planning to open five to 10 Perry Ellis outlet stores and two to five Original Penguin stores during the coming year, along with a Cubavera store at the Miami International Airport. The company gears its merchandise toward 32- or 33-year-old men who are interested in fashion, while focusing on the basic colors of neutrals, black and blue apparel.

K-VA-T Food Stores, Inc. (800-826-8451) is planning to open a Food City supermarket at the Northgate Village Shopping Center on Cambria Street in Christiansburg, VA. The company currently operates 50 locations in northeastern TN; 21 locations in southwestern VA and 12 locations in southeastern KY. The company also operates three locations under the Super Dollar Discount Foods concept, which features a limited assortment of groceries, throughout Abingdon, Hillsville and Wytheville, VA.

Home Depot (770-433-8211) is planning to open a location on a 17-acre tract in Hartwell, GA. The home improvement centers average about 105,000 sq.ft. and offer 40,000 different products. The company currently operates over 2,100 locations nationwide and in Canada and Mexico.

Starbucks (206-318-1575) is planning to open a 1,826 sq.ft. store at the intersection of Walton Boulevard and J Street in Bentonville, AR. The coffeehouse will feature a drive-thru and outdoor patio and is scheduled to open during the fall. The company currently operates 6,010 locations nationwide and internationally and plans to open 2,400 locations during the year. The gourmet coffee shop chain is the leading retailer of specialty coffee, tea and desserts.

Kohl’s (262-703-7000) is planning to open a department store on North Main Street in Las Cruces, NM. Area retail includes Lowe’s Home Improvement. The company is also planning to open an 80,000 sq.ft. store on eight acres of land situated on a 23-acre tract with a proposed 100,000 sq.ft. strip center at the intersection of West Burlington Avenue and Agency Street in West Burlington, IA. The company currently operates over 800 locations in 45 states nationwide.

Food Lion (704-633-8250) is planning to open a location in Southbridge, GA. Opening is scheduled for the beginning of 2008.

Guitar Center (818-735-8800) opened its 200th location in Maple Grove, MN this month. The company is also planning to open 16 to 19 stores during the year.

Mitchell Gold & Bob Williams (828-632-9200) is planning to open a store this month in Miami, FL. The company supplies chains such as Pottery Barn, Crate & Barrel, Williams-Sonoma Home and Restoration Hardware and operates 13 locations. The chain of home furnishings stores, also featuring soft goods and accessories, is looking to expand into Palm Beach, FL.

Rite Aid (717-761-2633) is planning to open three pharmacies throughout Vineland, NJ: 14,673 sq.ft. at the intersection of Delsea Drive and Landis Avenue; a store at the intersection of Lincoln Avenue and Dante Avenue and a location at the intersection of Delsea Drive and Sherman Avenue.

Whole Foods (510-428-7400) is planning to open a 66,000 sq.ft. supermarket on the lower east side in Manhattan, NY with a culinary center, featuring cooking classes, and a café which can accommodate up to 300 people. The chain of upscale organic grocery stores is planning to open three locations within New York, NY during the next two years, with openings scheduled in the Chelsea, Columbus Circle and Union Square sections. The company currently operates 193 locations nationwide and internationally.

Make and Take Gourmet (315-701-0472) is planning to open company-owned locations and 60 to 70 franchised locations throughout the eastern coast during the year. The meal preparation stores, offering customers ingredients and equipment for preparing meals to take home and freeze and featuring a menu that changes monthly, occupy spaces of 3,000 sq.ft. There are currently locations scheduled to open throughout MD, NH, NY and SC.

Costco Wholesale Corp. (425-313-8100) is planning to open a 150,000 sq.ft. Costco on Highway 101 in Warrenton, OR. The wholesale club is scheduled to open during summer 2009, along with a gas station.

Saxby’s Coffee (888-672-9297) is planning to open a location surrounding the Cinema Place complex in Hayward, CA. The center will also feature a movie theater and surrounding retail includes a deli, Red Brick Pizza and Tiki Grill along with 42 urban style condominiums. Opening is scheduled for the end of 2008. There is available space for up to nine small restaurants or retail stores.

Barnes & Noble, Inc, (212-633-3300) is planning to open 30 to 40 Barnes & Noble bookstores during the year. The company currently operates 793 locations nationwide. The bookstores feature 200,000 book, music, DVD and magazine titles and include a café serving Starbucks coffee.

Taco Del Mar (206-624-7060) is planning to open 150 to 170 quick service Mexican restaurants during the year. The company currently operates 229 locations.
