| Who's Opening & Where The Tan Co. (636-305-8222) is planning to open 100 locations during the year and plans to operate 500 locations within five years. The tanning salons offer skin care products and feature beds that provide multiple levels of tanning. The company currently operates 72 locations using spaces of 1,400 sq.ft. to 2,800 sq.ft. throughout CA, FL, GA, IL, IN, MD, MI, MO, NE, OH, VA and WA. $6 Fashion Outlet (214-247-0046) opened a store at the intersection of Airport Freeway and Precinct Line Road in Hurst, TX, next to Marshalls and Target Superstore. The stores specialize in women’s and misses apparel, along with a full line of plus size apparel, as well as additional items for men and children, all at a price point of $6.88. The company currently operates three other locations in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and plans to open three additional stores during the year. Apple (800-692-7753) is planning to open 35 to 40 computer stores during the year with 10 of those locations planned for oversees expansion. The Cheesecake Factory, Inc. (818-871-3000) opened a 10,400 sq.ft. Grand Lux Café restaurant at the Aventura Mall in Aventura, FL. The company currently operates 123 upscale, casual dining restaurants under The Cheesecake Factory brand name and nine locations, under the Grand Lux Café brand name. Five to six Grand Lux Café restaurants are scheduled to open this year. Cheddars Casual Café, Inc. (214-596-6700) is planning to open a Cheddars Restaurant on Shelby Street and Broad Street in Bristol, TN. The company currently operates over 60 locations nationwide. 184,000 sq.ft. Wal*Mart Supercenter located at the intersection of U.S.
67 and Route 255 in Godfrey, IL. Proposed development for the 37-acre site
includes retail space totaling 40,000 sq.ft., along with five outlots ranging
from 1.03 acres to 1.32 acres. Bass Pro Shops (417-873-5000) opened a store in Olathe, KS and a store in Portage, IN during February. Expansion for the year includes openings in Bolingbrook, IL this month; Mesa, AZ during May; Rancho Cucamonga, CA in June along with locations in Prattville, AL; Miami, FL; Pearland, TX; Denham Springs, LA; Foxboro and Independence, MA during November. The chains, featuring hunting, fishing, camping and outdoors products and supplies, as well as apparel and footwear, currently operate 40 locations nationwide. Gander Mountain (651-325-4300) is planning to open a 53,000 sq.ft. store at the Village Commons Shopping Center located at the intersection of Green River Road and Lloyd Expressway in Evansville, IN. The center is anchored by Fox and Hound, Hobby Lobby and Value City Furniture. Gander Mountain will take over the former Buehler’s Buy Low space. The stores specialize in hunting, fishing and camping items, along with a full line of outdoor apparel. The company currently operates 105 locations in 22 states nationwide. Whole Foods (510-428-7400) is planning to open a 25,000 sq.ft. supermarket on Soquel Avenue in Santa Cruz, CA. The organic grocery store is to be located at the site of the former Albertson’s supermarket. The company currently operates 194 locations nationwide and internationally. Chico’s (239-277-6200) is planning to open 55 to 60 Chico’s stores; 55 to 60 White House / Black Market stores; 20 to 25 Soma stores and has plans for 45 to 55 relocations/expansions during the coming year. The specialty apparel retailer offers private label, casual to dressy clothing, along with accessories and gift items. The company currently operates 925 locations nationwide and in Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands and trades as Chico’s at 555 locations; Chico’s outlet stores at 34 locations; White House / Black Market at 257 locations; White House / Black Market outlet stores at 16 locations; Soma by Chico’s stores at 51 locations; Fitigues at eight locations and Fitigues outlet store at one location. Tossed (954-828-1963) is planning to open 200 restaurants by 2010. The upscale salad bars currently operate two locations in NY and one location in NJ and occupy spaces of 1,800 sq.ft. to 2,400 sq.ft. in freestanding locations, endcaps and inline spaces. Expansion is franchise driven and the focus is presently on the Orlando and Jacksonville, FL; Atlanta, GA and Houston, TX markets. Academy Sports & Outdoors (281-579-1555) is planning to open a store in a space formerly used by HomeBase on South Mesa Hills on the west side in El, Paso, TX. The company is also planning to open a store at a former Wal*Mart location on South Americas in the Lower Valley in El Paso, TX. Both locations are scheduled to open during September. The stores, feature apparel, footwear and traditional sporting goods, including hunting, fishing and camping supplies, along with team sports and exercise equipment. The company currently operates 94 stores throughout AL, AR, FL, GA, LA, MS, MO, OK, TN and TX and plans to open 16 stores this year and enter the SC market. Old Navy (650-952-4400) is planning to open a 15,700 sq.ft. store at the Alameda Towne Centre, formerly the South Shore Center, located at the intersection of Park Street and Otis Drive in Alameda, CA. Opening is scheduled for this month. The 712,000 sq.ft. center is tenanted by Mervyn’s, Bed Bath & Beyond, Big 5 Sporting Goods, Borders Books, Office Max, Safeway and Trader Joe’s. T.J. Maxx (508-390-0000) is also planning to open a 30,000 sq.ft. store at the Alameda Towne Centre. Opening is scheduled for August. JCPenney (800-322-1189) is planning to open a store at a 200,000 sq.ft. shopping center, situated on 40 acres, located at the intersection of Randall Road and Harnish Drive in Algonquin, IL. The department store will co-anchor the center with Toys R Us / Babies "R" Us. The center is expected to open Fall 2008. H Mart (877-427-7386) is planning to open a 25,000 sq.ft. supermarket on Jamboree Road in Irvine, CA. The company currently operates 22 H Mart stores that cater to an Asian clientele primarily on the East Coast, the Midwest and in Canada. Foot Locker, Inc. (212-720-3700) is planning to open 100 stores and remodel or relocate 200 to 300 stores during the coming year. The company also plans to open 70 family footwear stores under the Footquarters brand name with additional plans to open 200 stores in 2008. Max Muscle (714-456-0700) is planning to open 500 locations during the next five years. The sports nutrition, weight loss and fitness centers occupy spaces of 1,200 sq.ft. and prefer to be located near Bally’s or Gold’s Gym. Expansion is franchise driven and focus is presently on the AZ, FL; Chicago, IL and the Northeast markets. |
