| Who's Opening & Where Brown Shoe Co., Inc. (314-854-4000) is planning to open a Famous Footwear at The Marketplace at Potomac Town Center in Ranson, WV during August. The 6,600 sq.ft. store will be the company’s second in the state. The company operates 1,003 stores nationwide under the trade names Famous Footwear, Supermarket of Shoes and Factory Brand Shoes. Abbyson Corp. (818-534-3400) is planning to open the company’s first retail store, The Power of Home, at the Westfield Topanga Canyon mall in Chatsworth, CA this spring. The 8,000 sq.ft. store will offer mid- to upper-level priced home products, including living room and dining room furniture, accessories and floor coverings and wireless, touch-screen home connectivity technology. The company plans to offer kitchen and patio furniture as well. Bed Bath & Beyond, Inc. (908-688-0888) is planning to open 70 stores during this fiscal year and may be expanding internationally. During the last fiscal year, the company opened 86 stores. The company also plans to expand its Harmon beauty concept within its stores, as well as adding fine china departments. Lowe’s Cos., Inc. (800-445-6937) is planning to open 77 home improvement stores throughout AZ, CA, FL and TX by the end of the year, as well as a store in Stony Brook, NY this year and one in Hicksville, NY next year. Since 2006, the company has opened stores in 37 states and will operate 1,530 locations in 50 states by the end of the year. Villa Enterprises (973-285-4800) is opening a Villa Fresh Italian Kitchen in Las Vegas, NV at the Fiesta Rancho Casino Hotel. The location is the company’s 12th restaurant in NV. The company operates 300 restaurants in 38 states and six countries under the trade names Villa Pizza, Cozzoli’s Pizza, Casa Java, Everything Yogurt, Green Leaf’s, Bananas and South Philly Steak & Fries. Olympia Sports (207-854-2794) is planning to open 15 to 20 stores annually, including three this month. The company also opened three stores during March and three during April. The stores occupy 4,000 sq.ft. on average and there are currently 157 in operation throughout New England, NY and PA. JCPenney Co., Inc. (972-431-1000) is planning to open 250 stores between this year and 2011, including 175 new locations and 75 relocations. The majority of the stores will be off-mall formats. In addition, the company is planning to open a three-level, 150,000 sq.ft. store at the Manhattan Mall, located on Sixth Avenue between 32nd Street and 33rd Street in New York, NY, during late 2008 or early 2009. It will be the company’s first Manhattan store and will be located across from the Macy’s flagship store. Rebecca Taylor (212-302-6485) is planning to open three stores in the U.S. during the next two years to join the company’s one freestanding location on Mott Street in New York, NY. The merchandise consists of contemporary sportswear and accessories. In addition, the company plans to expand its presence in Asia, which currently consists of 35 freestanding stores in Japan, four in South Korea and three in Taiwan. Stores are opening this month in Indonesia, Hong Kong and China. Existing stores are being renovated to resemble the New York City store, with beaded windows, crystals hanging from the ceiling and a distinct light installation. National Jean Co. (1-866-NAT-JEAN) is planning to open a store in West Hartford, CT and Wellesley, MA during the fall, in addition to a store in Dedham, MA during the spring of 2008. The company sells various denim brands, including Citizens of Humanity, Seven For All Mankind, True Religion, J Brand, Raven and Paige Premium Denim. Lumber Liquidators (800-366-4204) is planning to open 20 to 25 stores annually during the next three to four years. The stores offer 120 varieties of flooring, including hardwood, bamboo, cork and laminate. The company currently operates 92 stores in 39 states and may go public. Chico’s (239-277-6200) is planning to open 130 to 145 stores, including 55 to 60 Chico’s locations, 55 to 65 White House/Black Market stores and 20 Soma stores. Chico’s and White House/Black Market will be adding petites clothing next year and the company will also be renaming its lingerie division from Soma by Chico’s to Soma Intimates. The company operates 937 specialty stores in 47 states, Washington, DC, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico, including 561 Chico’s front-line stores, 34 Chico’s outlet stores, 264 White House/Black Market front-line stores, 17 White House/Black Market outlet stores and 53 Soma Intimates stores. Seven For All Mankind (866-427-1114) is planning to open a 3,000 sq.ft. freestanding store in Los Angeles, CA at the intersection of Robertson Boulevard and Alden Street. The store’s opening is slated for November. The company also plans to open two additional stores. Spencer Gifts, LLC (609-645-3300) is opening its 100th store in Flag Staff, AZ, with plans to open two locations in Puerto Rico, at Plaza Carolinas in San Juan and Montehiedra T.C. in Rio Piedras. The company also trades as Spirit of Halloween, which has plans for 500 openings this year. Jones Apparel Group (215-785-4000) is planning to open six Ann Klein stores this year. In addition, the company is looking to have 100 Bandolino stores in operation during the next few years. Ann Klein offers women’s fashions, while Bandolino offers trendy fashion and modern designs at value prices. The company also operates more than 1,000 stores under the following trade names: Circa Joan & David, Easy Spirit, Enzo Angiolini, Gloria Vanderbilt, Jones New York, Judith Jack, Mootsie Tootsies, Napier, Nine & Company, Nine West, Pappagallo, Sam & Libby and Westies. Liz Claiborne, Inc. (212-626-5200) is planning to open 100 stores under each of the following trade names: Juicy Couture, Lucky Brand and Kate Spade. Wal*Mart Stores, Inc. (800-925-6278) is opening a three-level Wal*Mart store at Hilltop Mall, located in Richmond, CA on Hilltop Mall Drive. The 205,700 sq.ft. store will have merchandise on the first two floors and storage and receiving on the third. In CA, the company operates 145 Wal*Mart stores, 36 Sam’s Club locations, 22 Wal*Mart Supercenter stores and nine distribution centers. Build-A-Bear Workshop, Inc. (314-725-8282) and Rainforest Café (713-850-1010) are planning to open Build-A-Bear Workshop at Rainforest Café locations. The combination of the concepts, dubbed family "restaurantainment" centers, first opened during April in Galveston Island, TX. Following the initial opening, locations opened during May at the Mall of America in Minneapolis, MN and in Grapevine Mills near Dallas, TX. Build-A-Bear Workshop operates 270 stores throughout the U.S. Payless ShoeSource, Inc. (877-452-7500) is planning to open three Payless Fashion Lab stores in New York, NY, as well as 15 Fashion Lab stores nationwide this year. A SoHo store opened during May, with the rest to follow this summer. Launched last summer, the Fashion Lab format offer Payless products with broader fashion assortments such as the company’s Designer Collections and an increased selection of handbags and accessories. The company is securing locations for the new concept on Fifth Avenue, as well as San Francisco Centre in San Francisco, CA; Valley Fair Mall in Santa Clara, CA; Houston Galleria in Houston, TX and Dallas Galleria in Dallas, TX. The company currently operates 4,572 stores. The Cheesecake Factory, Inc. (818-871-3000) is planning to open 21 restaurants during this fiscal year, including five Grand Lux Café locations. Two Cheesecake Factory restaurants are planned for the fiscal second quarter, including a Brandon, FL location. The company opened a Grand Lux Café restaurant in Aventura, FL during the first quarter. The Cheesecake Factory offers a menu of 200 items and has an average check of $17.50. Grand Lux Café is an upscale, casual dining concept. The company operates 124 Cheesecake Factory locations, nine Grand Lux Café restaurants and one Cheesecake Factory Express location. Ruth’s Chris Steak House, Inc. (407-333-7440) is opening a steakhouse in Anaheim, CA, its 11th restaurant in the state. The 8,500 sq.ft. restaurant features the company’s luxury lounge concept and can accommodate 221 guests in dining, private dining, bar and lounge area seating. The restaurant also offers 40 seats for patio dining. The opening is the sixth of the company’s planned restaurant openings this year. The company currently operates 106 company-owned and franchise-owned restaurants nationwide. Gander Mountain Co. (651-325-4300) is planning to open three stores in St. Augustine, FL; Fayetteville, NC and College Station this month, in addition to nine locations during the rest of the year. Most recently, the company opened a store in Eden Prairie, MN during March. The company currently operates 105 stores in 22 states, offering hunting, fishing, camping, boating and outdoor lifestyle products and services, such as on-site gunsmiths, archery lanes, line winding, reel setups and bait shops. The stores will occupy spaces of 60,000 sq.ft. and will emphasize regional preferences and knowledge. BJ’s Restaurants, Inc. (714-500-2440) is planning to open 13 restaurants this year, five of which are under construction. The company recently opened a BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse in Orlando, FL on Conroy Road across from the Mall at Millennia. The 8,500 sq.ft. restaurant seats 270 and is the company’s third opening this year. The restaurant offers deep dish pizza, handcrafted beer and the company’s Pizookie dessert, as well as contemporary décor and high-definition flat panel televisions. The company is also identifying prospective locations for 2008 and 2009. The company currently operates 58 casual dining restaurants throughout AZ, CA, CO, FL, NV, OH, OR and TX under the trade names BJ’s Restaurant & Brewery, BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse and BJ’s Pizza & Grill. Famous Uncle Al’s Hot Dogs & Grille, Inc. (800-380-2725) is planning to open a restaurant in Las Vegas, NV, as well as begin construction on restaurants in Phoenix, AZ and Virginia Beach, VA. Franchised locations are located in Danbury, CT; Coco Beach, Melbourne and Winterspring, FL; Las Vegas and Chesapeake, Franklin and Virginia Beach, VA. Boneheads Grilled Fish & Piri Piri Chicken (404-844-3225), a Raving Brands concept, is planning to open 24 restaurants throughout southern CA during the coming years. Most recently, the company opened a restaurant in Lake Forest, CA on El Toro Road. The restaurants offer fire-grilled fish entrees, such as salmon, tilapia and mahi mahi, seasoned with South African-inspired spices. The menu also features chicken dishes, such as fire-grilled chicken or boneless chicken breast as an entrée or a salad, that can be customized with Boneheads’ Piri Piri sauces. There are currently six restaurants in operation and the company plans to double that number during this year and next year. Kohl’s (262-703-7000) is planning to open 110 to 115 stores during this fiscal year, including the company’s first entries into ID and WY. The company plans to operate more than 1,200 stores by 2010. The new stores will incorporate an updated store prototype the company introduced last year. In addition, Kohl’s will remodel 29 existing stores and will double the number of remodeled stores next year; 90 of the company’s 834 stores have been upgraded. |
