Who's Opening & Where


Furniture Row Cos. (303-371-8560) is planning to open four home furnishing and bedding specialty stores in Clarksville, IN on Highway 31 East. The 53,440 sq.ft. Furniture Row Shopping Center will feature four of the company’s concepts: Oak Express, Bedroom Expressions, Sofa Mart and Denver Mattress Company. Construction is slated to be completed this fall. Oak Expressions offers dining, entertainment and home office furniture made from oak, cherry, maple, pine and other woods. Bedroom Expressions specializes in bedroom furniture and Sofa Mart specializes in casual leather and upholstery home furniture, as well as accent pieces. Denver Mattress Company manufactures, distributes and sells its own proprietary mattresses. Furniture Row operates more than 330 stores in 32 states.

Naked Bath + Body (713-942-8800) opened its flagship store in Houston, TX on Times Boulevard last month. The parent company, Fejna, Inc., plans to open three to five stores throughout the Houston area during the next five years in the following areas: Galleria, Highland Village, Sugar Land and Memorial City. The stores carry unpackaged products available for customers to try them before buying. Customers can also take advantage of the store’s footbaths. The store’s soap products are handcrafted with a guarantee of containing 95% natural ingredients.

Giant Eagle (412-963-6200) is planning to open additional Giant Eagle Express stores, the company’s convenience store concept. The stores feature eight gas pumps, a small grocery and a neighborhood pharmacy. The company opened the Giant Eagle Express prototype, with a GLA of 14,000 sq.ft., outside Pittsburgh, PA at the intersection of Route 910 and Freeport Road. The stores offer newspapers, magazines, cigarettes, an ATM machine, candy, a coffee bar, baked goods, made-to-order breakfast and deli sandwiches and ready-to-eat meals including chicken burritos. In addition, the stores offer free Wi-fi access. There are seven aisles stocked with canned foods, salad dressings, baby needs and paper goods, among other items. The pharmacy is also equipped with a drive-thru. The company also operates 120 GetGo gas station/convenience stores.

Rite Aid (717-761-2633) is planning to open 1,000 locations by 2010 throughout Baltimore, MD; Los Angeles, CA; New York, NY and Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, PA. In addition, the company is planning re-brand the Brooks and Eckerd stores it acquired this year to Rite Aid, with a goal of completing the transformation by March 2008.

Ulta (630-226-0020) is planning to open a store at Silver Spring Square, located along Carlisle Pike in Silver Spring Township, PA. The beauty supply and hair salon chain currently operates 200 locations nationwide. Additional retailers at the center include Panera Bread, Long Horn Steakhouse, Chili’s Grille & Bar, Ross Dress for Less, Lane Bryant, Cacique, Bed Bath & Beyond, OfficeMax, Target and Wegmans. Best Buy will open a store in the center during October.

Dick’s Sporting Goods (412-788-6066) is planning to open 45 stores during the year. The sporting goods retailer currently operates over 240 locations nationwide and is on target to have 800 stores open within the next seven years.

Whole Foods (512-477-4455) is opening a supermarket in Chicago, IL at the intersection of Roosevelt Road and Canal Street this month. The store will feature a waterfall and a smokehouse for meats, as well as regional motifs, including rail yards, the Chicago skyline and photographs of Maxwell Street. Chicago-area openings are also planned for Waveland Avenue in Northbrook, IL this month and a relocation on North Avenue.

Jerry’s Subs & Pizza (301-921-8777) is planning to open a 2,000 sq.ft. restaurant at the Chambersburg Crossing Shopping Center in Chambersburg, PA during November. Cotenants include Kohl’s and Giant. The chain of sub shops currently operates locations throughout DE, MD, PA, VA, WV and Washington, DC. Area retailers include Moe’s Southwest Grill, Wings Etc., Target, Circuit City, Harmon’s Furniture, Future Vision and Fuddruckers.

Wal*Mart Stores, Inc. (800-925-6278) is planning to open 80 stores this year and during early 2008. Between 190 and 200 stores are still planned for this year, down from original plans to open between 265 and 270. In addition, the company plans to open 170 supercenters annually starting next year.

Morton Williams (718-933-0396) is planning to open a grocery store in NJ this year. The upscale, family-owned supermarket and specialty foods chain operates eight locations in Manhattan, NY and two in Bronx, NY. In addition, the company took over a specialty Italian food store in Westchester County,
NY last year.

Earth Fare (828-281-4800) plans to open more than 20 organic and natural foods stores during the next three to five years, at a rate of six to eight annually. In addition, the company has store openings planned for Charlotte, NC this month and for Augusta, GA during October. The 11-unit chain will focus future growth within 250 miles of Asheville, NC.

Nespresso (800-562-1465) is planning to open eight to 10 Nesspresso Boutiques throughout the U.S. by 2010, with a goal of having 250 in operation worldwide. The coffee retailer currently operates 79 units internationally and one in the U.S. The boutiques are cafes that sell Nespresso products, including coffeemakers and capsules containing the company’s coffee beans.

Ross Stores, Inc. (925-965-4400) recently opened several dd’s Discounts stores in TX. In Dallas, the company opened stores on Forest Lane, West Jefferson Boulevard and Marsh Lane. In Garland, the company opened a store on East Centerville Road. There are currently 40 dd’s Discounts throughout CA, FL and TX. The concept is similar to Ross Stores’ Ross Dress for Less concept, except with price points that are 20% less.

Anchor Blue (909-605-5000) plans to have 500 stores in operating within the next several years throughout AR, GA, NC, OK, SC and Washington, DC, as well as in existing markets, such as CA, FL and TX. The teen clothing retailer currently operates 25 Anchor Blue stores, adapting a new concept from the company’s previous store, Miller’s Outpost.

Market Street Supermarket (806-791-0220) is planning to open a store at the 400,000 sq.ft. Eldorado Market Place, located at the intersection of Eldorado Parkway and Dallas Parkway in Frisco, TX. The supermarket anchor will feature a drive-thru operation for prepared food items. Cotenants of the center, scheduled to open during spring of 2008, include Chase Bank and Sovereign Bank. Area retailers include Home Depot and Target. The chain of supermarkets currently operates locations in Colleyville and McKinney, TX.

Einstein Noah Restaurant Group, Inc. (303-568-8000) opened an Einstein Bros. Bagels location in Naples, FL on Tamiami Trail last month. The company is planning an expansion of Einstein Bros. Bagels nationwide this year and currently operates 600 locations in 36 states and Washington, DC. The 3,400 sq.ft. location seats 71 guests and offers, sandwiches, breads, soups, desserts, coffee and bagels.
