Who's Opening & Where


Freds, Inc. (901-365-8880) is planning to open 18 stores by the end of the year, and will also close one to two stores. The discount retailer currently operates 700 stores and has closed 19 locations and four pharmacies so far this year.

Juicy Couture, Inc. (818-767-0849) is planning to open 40 stores by the end of the year. The company recently opened a 4,824 sq.ft. freestanding store on Worth Avenue in Palm Beach, FL, its fifth freestanding store in the state.

Wegmans Food Market, Inc. (585-328-2550) is planning to open a 160,000 sq.ft. Wegmans supermarket at the intersection of Snowden River Parkway and McGaw Road in East Columbia, MD. Opening is projected to take place during 2009.

7-Eleven, Inc. (972-828-7011) is planning to open 1,000 convenience stores nationwide, and will renovate 6,050 existing stores. The company recently acquired White Hen Pantry, a chain of convenience stores located primarily in the Chicago, IL area. The company currently operates 7,200 stores throughout North America.

Lululemon Athletica (604-732-6124) is planning to open 35 stores nationwide by the end of next year, with expansion planned for Europe and Asia in the future. The company is planning to open 25 stores during this fiscal year, including 17 during the second half of the year. The stores offer yoga-inspired athletic apparel.

The Home Depot, Inc. (770-433-8211) is planning to open a 102,000 sq.ft. store in Alamosa, CO on U.S. Highway 160. Opening is slated for October 2008. The site had been previously occupied by Kmart.

Ikea USA, Inc. (610-834-0180) is planning to open stores in Orlando and Sunrise, FL this year. The Sunrise store is slated to open this fall, while the 309,000 sq.ft. Orlando store is scheduled to open during November.

Daffy’s, Inc. (201-902-0800) is planning to open one to two stores annually. Stores average 35,000 sq.ft. in size, ranging from 20,000 sq.ft. to 100,000 sq.ft. The company currently operates 19 stores in the New York, NY metropolitan area. The stores offer men’s, women’s and children’s designer clothing, as well as home items at off-price points.

Famima Corp. (310-214-1001) is planning to open 250 convenience stores nationwide by 2009. Most recently, the company opened a store in Long Beach, CA and closed a store in the Westwood section of Los Angeles, CA.

Jared Enterprises (417-877-7900) is planning to open several Cody’s Convenience Stores locations by 2008. The company currently operates 18 stores in southwestern MO and recently opened two locations in the Springfield, MO area.

Walgreen Co. (847-914-2500) is planning to open 550 Walgreens stores during fiscal year 2008, which would net 475 stores, following relocations and closings. The company opened 101 drugstores last month, including 13 relocations, one closing and 54 acquisitions. For fiscal year 2007, the company opened 615 stores and
acquired 115 stores. The company currently operates 5,992 drugstores in 48 states and Puerto Rico.

Einstein Noah Restaurant Group, Inc. (303-568-8000) is planning to open 30 to 40 restaurants this year. Most recently, the company opened an Einstein Bros. Bagel location at the University of Missouri-Rolla campus on University Drive in Rolla, MO. The opening was the company’s 13th Einstein Bros. Bagel restaurant during 2007. The company operates primarily under the trade names Einstein Bros. Bagels and Noah’s New York Bagels. It currently operates 600 restaurants in 36 states and Washington, DC.

L.L. Bean, Inc. (207-552-3028) is planning to expand its store count during the coming years and recently opened a location in Albany, NY at the Colonie Center. The 30,000 sq.ft. store an environmentally friendly LEED building and joins other L.L. Bean stores in Burlington, MA; Center Valley, PA; Columbia, MD; Freeport, ME; Marlton, NJ; McLean, VA; South Windsor, CT and West Lebanon, NH.

Barnes & Noble, Inc. (212-633-3300) is planning to open a bookstore next year in St. George, UT at the Red Cliffs Mall located on East Red Cliffs Drive. The store will offer about 200,000 book, music, DVD and magazine titles, a café serving Starbucks coffee, a newsstand with more than 2,000 titles and Wi-Fi access.

Office Depot, Inc. (561-438-4800) is planning to open 100 stores this year and 125 to 150 stores next year. The projections are lower than original estimates this year.

Zara International, Inc. (212-754-1120) is planning to open its first Chicago store on North Michigan Avenue at the Magnificent Mile at Chicago Place. The store will occupy 30,000 sq.ft. at a former Talbot’s location. Cotenants include H&M, Victoria’s Secret, Forever 21 and Saks Fifth Avenue.

Circuit City Stores, Inc. (804-486-4000) is planning to open a store in Williamsburg, VA at Settler’s Market during 2008.

Ker’s, Inc. (727-535-2939) is planning to open three to four Ker’s WingHouse Bar & Grill restaurants annually and recently added its 18th FL location in West Bradenton on 14th Street. The restaurants offer over-sized entrees, including burgers, salads, side items and wings. The company also operates four locations in TX.

Ridemakerz (1-866-587-4339) is planning to open locations this year at Spotsylvania Towne Center in Fredericksbug, VA and at Castleton Square Mall in Indianapolis, IN. The stores offer items to customize
vehicles, including the body style, color, tires, wheels, lights, sounds, accessories and decals. Recently, the company opened locations at Broadway at the Beach in Myrtle Beach, SC and at the Mall of America in Minneapolis, MN.

Cuppy’s Coffee & More, Inc. (850-244-7681) is planning to open 15 locations by October and opened six last month. The company is currently averaging seven to 10 openings monthly nationwide and in Canada, with more than 70 leases signed and 60 units currently under construction. The company currently operates 40 stores in 18 states.

Bi-Lo (864-234-1600) is planning to replace an existing store on Folly Road in James Island, SC with a 63,000 sq.ft. Super Bi-Lo, which is scheduled to open next year. The store will occupy a former Kmart located next to the existing Bi-Lo. Super Bi-Lo stores offer wider product selections in its deli, bakery, meat and seafood departments, as well as longer hours. The company operates 230 supermarkets throughout GA, NC, SC and TN, including 15 stores in the Charleston, SC area.

Nordstrom, Inc. (206-628-2111) is planning to open a store in New York, NY at the intersection of East 56th Street and Park Avenue on the lower floors of the Drake Hotel. The company also opened its first store in MA with 144,000 sq.ft. at Natick Collection in Natick. The company operates 158 stores in 28 states nationwide.
