| Who's Opening & Where Regal Entertainment Group (865-922-1123) is planning to open 10 Cinebarre theaters during the next three years, primarily through the conversion of existing movie theaters. The company opened the new concept in Asheville, NC at the Biltmore Square Mall during July. The two-level theater occupies 31,000 sq.ft. and features a full-service bar and restaurant. Apple, Inc. (408-996-1010) is planning to open 40 stores next year, including locations in Boston, MA and New York, NY. The company recently opened 12 new stores, raising its store count to 197. International locations are also planned, in China and India. Walgreens Co. (847-914-2500) is planning to open its first Walgreens location this month in HI on Keeaumoku Street in Kapiolani. The will be joined by locations in Kaneohe and Kalihi, which are slated to open next year. Also, a 15,000 sq.ft. store is planned for Maui at the intersection of Honoapiilani Highway and Keawe Street. In all, the company plans to open 25 to 30 stores throughout the state. In addition, the company is planning to open a 14,820 sq.ft. location in Sheboygan, WI at the intersection of North Avenue and Calumet Drive. The company plans to open a total of 550 stores during fiscal 2008, with a goal of having 7,000 stores in operation by 2010. Recently, the company opened its 6,000th store with an opening in New Orleans, LA. Tesco (310-384-3833) recently opened six Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market grocery stores throughout CA in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino counties. The stores are the company’s initial entries into the U.S. market. A 13,900 sq.ft. anchor location is planned for Topaz Marketplace, a 51,000 sq.ft. center located at the intersection of Main Street and Topaz Avenue in Hesperia, CA that is currently under construction. (804-486-4000) is debuting a new concept, The City, which will feature a refined product selection and give customers a more interactive shopping experience. The company plans to open 60 to 65 stores next fiscal year, which will include the new concept. During the 2009 fiscal year, the company plans to open 75 to 100 locations. The company operates 658 stores nationwide, as well as 510 stores in Canada. Wal*Mart Stores, Inc. (479-273-4000) is planning to open 140 Wal*Mart Supercenter stores this year. In addition, the company plans to open 25 new, expanded or relocated Sam’s Club wholesale clubs during the 2009 and 2010 fiscal years. The company recently opened its first Wal*Mart Supercenter in Cleveland, OH on Steelyard Drive, as well as converted stores into supercenterts throughout the Toledo, OH area. (323-266-3072) is planning to open its second store in New York, NY on Third Avenue between 65th Street and 66th Street. The 1,400 sq.ft. store is slated to open during next spring. Area retail includes Bloomingdale’s, Sephora, Zara, Diesel and Scoop. In addition, the company is entering the HI market next summer, with a 1,270 sq.ft. store at Ala Moana Center in Ala Moana, HI. The company currently operates 22 stores. Steve & Barry’s (516-267-7300) is planning to open a total 70 stores this year, including a 42,000 sq.ft. location at Agawam Town Square on Springfield Street in Agawam, MA that is slated to open this month. The company currently operates 200 stores in 33 states that average 20,000 sq.ft. to 100,000 sq.ft. in size. Carter’s, Inc. (404-745-2700) is planning to seven Carter’s stores and three OshKosh stores during the fourth quarter of this year. For the 2007 fiscal year, the company has opened 10 Carter’s and eight OshKosh stores. The company currently operates 222 Carter’s and 162 OshKosh stores, offering clothing for babies and young children. Jos. A. Bank Clothiers, Inc. The stores offer men’s casual clothing, sportswear, footwear and accessories in 404 locations nationwide in 42 states and Washington, DC. The Tabitha Geary Co. (804-576-3501) is planning to open
a store on Libbie Avenue in Richmond, VA and may open a second showroom in the
area next year. The stores offer computed scanning services Borders Group, Inc. (734-477-1100) is planning to
open five to eight freestanding Paperchase stores by the end of fiscal
year 2008. The company recently opened its first Paperchase store in the U.S., a
1,525 sq.ft. on Newbury Street in Boston, MA. The store offers greeting cards,
stationery, gift items, seasonal décor, gift wrap and diaries. The company
acquired Paperchase Products, Ltd. in 2004 and added the shops to
more than 300 Borders superstores nationwide. The company currently
operates 1,100 Borders Kohl’s Corp. (262-703-7000) is opening 200 new store
prototypes nationwide. The stores will feature outdoor seating, showcase
windows, larger fitting rooms with lounges and redesigned service and checkout
Charlotte Russe Holding, Inc. (858-587-1500) is planning to open at least 60 stores during fiscal year 2008. The stores offer fashionable, value-priced apparel and accessories for young women in their teens and twenties. The company operates 435 stores in 45 states and Puerto Rico. Canadian Tire Corp, Ltd. (416-480-3000) is planning to open 60 to
70 stores under its various formats, including Canadian Tire, Mark’s
Work Warehouse, PartSource and Canadian Tire Petroleum. Next
year, the company will introduce a new concept for underserved markets that will
be tailored to local preferences and will include an 18,000 sq.ft. to 20,000
sq.ft. Mark’s Work Warehouse section in each store. Typical Mark’s stores occupy
10,000 sq.ft. to 12,000 sq.ft. and new stores will range from 25,000 sq.ft. to
35,000 sq.ft. in size. The company currently operates 25 combination stores that
contain a Canadian Tire store connected to Mark’s Work Warehouse. The company
